  • Vang and Baur will have bail hearings at 12:45pm on Friday, Feb. 23.
  • Officers say they are now searching local rivers and landfills for Elijah.
  • Police urge people to come forward with any information they may have no matter how insignificant they think it may be.

HILBERT (WLUK) -- Law enforcement have the entrance to a Calumet County landfill blocked off Friday morning as the search for a missing three-year-old boy from Two Rivers continues into day 4.

There is a police presence at Hickory Meadows landfill on Schneider Road in Hilbert.

Two Rivers police said in a statement Thursday that the public may see search efforts in areas such as local rivers and landfills as they continue to look for Elijah Vue. The department is also working with other agencies in the case, including the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations, the FBI, A Child is Missing and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. All municipal and county agencies have been brought in for assistance, as well as drones and K9s from neighboring departments and the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

Katrina Baur, identified by relatives as the mother of Elijah Vue, a boy missing from Two Rivers, could be in court as soon as Friday on requested charges of being party to child neglect.

Jesse Vang, whose address in court records matches where the boy was last seen, is expected in court on a requested charge of child neglect.

No formal charges have been filed. Typically, Manitowoc County holds a bond hearing and then files criminal charges before an initial appearance. A court appearance scheduled for Thursday was canceled less than two hours before it was supposed to start.

A massive search is expanding Friday morning for 3-year-old Elijah Vue, a Wisconsin boy missing since Tuesday.

[...]

Police have not shared significant updates or leads in the case as the search continues. Officers are now searching local rivers and landfills, saying they “will leave no stone unturned.”

Two Rivers Police Chief Ben Meinnert has urged anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and share that with law enforcement.

The latest update from the Two Rivers Police Department:
I found this part very interesting: "Check your surveillance systems from February 12th through February 20th."

Just as I suspected, it's possible that sweet boy was missing long before it was reported.
I dont think so. I have never said this before but I think the mother may be innocent.

police have asked people to check their cameras between Feb. 12 and Feb 20. I suspect that means the 12th may be the last time someone outside the household saw Elijah. I know what LE said about how they like to go back a few days before to see the activity in the area in case something suspicious is picked up. But I feel going back to the 12th has a more specific reason. MOO JMO

As to the landfill search, we've all seen cases where a landfill must be searched but it wasn't known soon enough after the crime and so made that much more difficult once the search was initiated, to locate the area that days dumps would occupy (ie. Jhessie Shockley). Even if they have no solid evidence to lead them there, I suspect there is enough to make them want to segregate the debris from the time period of interest and prevent new debris being added to that area. also JMO

Has anyone heard about the hearing for Katrina and Jesse that was to occur yesterday and then was said to be occurring this morning?

the focus on victim rights I would think would have to do with the allegations of neglect being related to a minor child whether that is Elijah, or another minor child.

I don't think Katrina would be facing charges if she were being considered a victim that needed shielding JMO.

Waiting to see the outcome of court before I land on either side of any fence where she is concerned.

What confidential sources and what was divulged by them? Trying to play catch up.

Well that's some press release compared to the nothing burger the day before. Too bad they hadn't waited a day for their live press release so it would have had some new info in it. I'm actually surprised in a good way at how long it was! With all the help they are getting, and with how quickly things appear to be happening, I think they'll find Elijah soon. Hopefully alive AND well!!! :)

IMO the neglect charge on mom is because she left Elijah with "caretaker" aka Vang.
the only way I can see that being the only reason for charges is if she KNEW that Elijah was in imminent danger with Jesse and left him there with him anyway. Meaning she knew he had treated Elijah in an abusive manner previously.

Otherwise, this is a person whose cooperation is preferred as LE look for her missing child. MOO if that is the only reason she is being charged authorities would lay those charges later, after NOT getting cooperation, not right out of the gate. (ala Leilani Simon in the Quinton Simon case).

I suspect there is more to it than that

The whole wording of things from the get go in this case has been off. 'last seen at this residence by caregiver. no family in the vicinity'

why not 'left in the care of her boyfriend who saw the child at 8am'?

why not 'mom was at work (or the dollar store or one of a million errands) and last saw the child at [insert time] and later her boyfriend noticed Elijah was no longer there at 8am'?

We do not have the whole story yet and it is gonna be a doozy I think.

They could be charging based upon what she should have known based on his criminal record or prior actions with children.

They are checking landfills and rivers, I doubt a live child will be located there.
Regarding the blanket listed on the missing flyer, I am guessing Elijah may have been wrapped in it. JMO.
