Okay, thanks. I tried to search WS for the post about Ontonagon's human trafficking expertise and my electronics crashed, go figure.
I am kind of jumping in so apologies. Random facts in case it helps. I live a couple states from Michigan. Michigan is a hub for trafficking. "Michigan’s proximity to the Canadian border and waterways increases the likelihood of trafficking in the state." (1)
Other states will send Michigan information on any missing person case when there was a possibility of HT because of it's proximity and many major highways.
"Michigan is ranked #2 in the country for human trafficking, right behind Nevada."......."Some say due to being so close to Canada, traffickers can easily take victims across the border." I have seen different rankings but they are all still very high."(2)
If I recall correctly Ontonagon borders on Lake Superior so there is access across the border. I can't speak to that specific area but I can say one can easily take a 26 ft boat from Lake Erie to Canada with no in person border check. It is basically an honor system involving a phone at a small marina you are supposed to call to report you crossed the border. I am pulling from memory but I believe there was a girl in this timeframe who was taken in Kentucky and found in Michigan. Anyway, random info.

I might watch too much tv, but isn't there some rapid swab test that can test surfaces / items for various drugs? I might have seen that on Border Security... lol. At any rate... thinking about the chair they carried out... it wasn't bagged or tagged when it was photographed exiting the residence. The guy carrying it had on full protective body suit, and gloves...

I don't think it was used to tie anyone up - that just makes no sense to me when the perp had a gun that s/he apparently knew how to use. So what if they were just testing the chair surface for drug residue?

"Lake Ontonagon" is Lake Superior. You don't just take a boat across this lake. Taking a boat across the lake would have taken experienced people and not in a small boat. Same with Lake Erie. Remember the Edmund Fitzgerald?

If meth is a big problem in the county... why haven't we heard of any of the labs getting raided? How many cooks have been picked up? What about the bosses? Community appears to be quiet on this issue...

I have no idea if meth is related to the Closs murders and Jayme's disappearance, but those who think meth is related, I think are justified in speculating it might be so. These are just the first 3 links found on a search... recent and only a fraction of the links actually available on the subject in and around the Barron area and, indeed, the whole state of Wisconsin.

Can't speak to Lake Superior but we did it once and friends have made the trip across Lake Erie for an overnighter many times. We were experienced as far as boating and trolling Lake Erie but thats about it. I wouldn't do it again though. The wind can suddenly shift and eat your gas. FYI Coast guard spoke in french lol.
ETA: Trolling as in walleye fishing not internet

Lake Superior in October? Never. Better think about this pretty hard. You wouldn't be here in a 26 ft. boat. Superior is much more notorious than Erie. (Minnesotan here.)
Oct 3 2018 18 ft waves.
Oct 10 2018 20 ft waves.
Oct 11 2018 55 - 65 mph winds.

Cite your source, please.

All I can tell is these stories are nonsense. The only mention I could find of huge gangs roaming neighborhoods in Minnesota and threatening sexual assault is from a "news" source called WND, described as a fringe, far right site that promotes conspiracy theories and false stories.

It was supposedly a large gang of Somalis who threatened to assault a woman in their neighborhood but I have found zero credible news source reporting it. Sounds like xenophobic garbage to me.

I didn't bother looking up the other, frankly.

And even if true it would have absolutely zero to do with a crime like this. Immigrant gangs initmidating other immigrant members of their ethnic community has zero to do with what we have here.

Sorry, not sure how to link to here, but the story about the street in MN was covered on a major station KSTP Channel 5 by Brett Hoffland back in July 2016 . He interviews citizens of the town and also mentions and shows the police report filed. I bring it up because the individuals were threatening rape and kidnapping the women. We do not know that rapes occurred in the Closs crime , but a kidnapping/abduction of some sort did occur.

The fighting at the Halloween fair occurred this past September. Channel 4 CBS Minnesota reported it as well as other major outlets. They report they had to close down the fair due to the fights and LE had difficulty getting everything under control. CBS posts the police report but for some reason it doesn't describe or mention who was actually fighting and causing the commotion or why ?The entire family filled fair had to be shut down.. Both these incidents can be looked up and were covered by large news outlets. The two incidents happened less than two hours away from Barron .
I bring up these two incidents because IMO the Closs tragedy seemed to be the murder of two good people who the perp(s) had no interest or connection to. Maybe during the time lag between the supposed gunshots and 911 call Denise was abused by the perp(s) before she was killed. They then took Jayme because she was their intended target all along OR she just happened to be there and they felt she could be of use to them in some way.
MOO!!

Has anyone google-mapped other addresses from recent arrests on Hwy 8/ 13 1/2 Street to see if they pin correctly? I wonder if there's an address that pins incorrectly to the Cross' house...

I have heard about some crazy stuff found stashed in the woods that people were making makeshift meth labs out of. It wasn't even on their own property. This stuff doesn't tend to make the national news so if you aren't living in or near an area where this happens you may be unaware. It is almost like the modern day moonshiners hiding a still.
I have read that it can be made in the trunk of a car. Stories out of Dallas TX.

I wish we could see a floorplan. I've lived in two ranch homes (one story with a basement). Bedrooms on one end, living room, dining room, kitchen on the other. My opinion only but I think the front door opens into the living room, I think there is likely a dining room in the front corner, with sliding doors to the patio. That would put the kitchen in the back corner. Meanwhile, above the garage would be the bedrooms, supported by the narrow eyebrow windows on the far side of the house. There I would expect to find 3 bedrooms and one hall bath, and maybe a small master bath, if the layout is like mine. I know the clothing thif indicated that Jayme's room was to the right of the sliding doors, but that doesn't compute with what I know of that style house. I wonder if, in entering through the sliding door if there is a straight line thru to the bedrooms, and Jayme's is on the right side, which would place it on the back side of the house and also potentially closest to the basement stairs. I wonder what horrendous story those walls tell...
Please let arrests be forthcoming...

I understand the gang theory may be far fetched to many, but unfortunately I do live near an area where gangs are quite active. I'm not mentioning any specific type of gang, but many have been known to kill to obtain whatever they want. While most of the time they fight and kill amongst themselves there have been cases of teenage girls being killed due to a disagreement she had with a gang member on line. They brutally killed her and her friend who just happened to be with her at that time. In NO way am I saying Jayme knowingly was involved with any gang type members, but maybe she had come in contact with this type of person(s)somehow. How is the big question? Or was it a random thrill seeking kind of crime? Could they have been at the casino or in Barron and were just looking to rob or terrorize a home and took Jayme as the prize?
If there were cars involved as mentioned by LE she doesn't have to be close .
There are major cities not too far from Barron
. If people in gang areas have seen something they will never alert LE due to fear. I tend to lean more to a gang type theory at this point rather than any cartel theory. MOO!

Yeah I don't see this at all. Given that MSP is 2 hours from Barron I don't see a gang driving out to po-dunk WI to commit a random crime. Gangs aren't a problem in this area of Wisconsin. Rice Lake is not a "major city". The crime in this region, especially Barron County, is alarmingly drug related. The closest thing you will find to a gang is a bunch of junior high kids listening to rap pretending to be a gangster because they googled some hand signs and colors. My cousin was one of these. He also was a heroin addict.

Given that the cartel is indeed in Wisconsin, and the prevalence of drugs in this area, it would make a lot more sense than gangs.

In my husband's industry there was a traveling lab a few years ago. Two guys made one in a work trailer that they towed behind their work truck.

BTW, gangs often consist of older kids too(18+). Not only high school aged kids. What if it wasn't random? Maybe Jayme unknowingly was communicating with this type of person(s) through
SM? Phone, XBOX etc...? If the perp(s) were communicating with Jayme or were part of a group Jayme may have been communicating with on SM and they wanted to commit a crime or go to Barron for some reason , I don't think driving two hours or less would deter them. IMO.

I was thinking the sliding doors would be to the living room based on a previous ranch I had. Front door of house led into living room. Bedroom down small hall to the left, bathroom on the side of house. Back of house from left to right: bedroom, kitchen in middle. dining room then a 3rd bedroom behind dining room (though looking at the Closs house it's possibly only 2 bedrooms.

I am not a fan of the gang theory either... I simply posted the story about gang activity because someone's post seemed to think that drug cartel activity in the area does not occur... I think we need to be very careful about thinking inside a box here. Any scenero could be possible and nothing should be immediately ruled out. An open mind will help locate Jayme faster. I still have faith she is out there and alive.

Agree. I think the father and mother were meant to be killed from the beginning. Why? It's going to take some digging, and while it could have implications of something sinister, it could be something in the past they know, have seen, or about which they have first-hand knowledge. As to how and why Jayme became involved, I just don't think she was the target but an after thought.

If she's still alive, how do you deal with a 13 yr old that cannot be seen anywhere for a month? It would be starting to get old and more difficult for the possible captor(s). Could the publicity/billboards be encouraging Jayme's elimination?

It sure seems to me that the culprit(s) is not someone in the community. You can bet LE/FBI have knowledge of everyone and everything around town and the area. Meth is a problem, but, again LE/FBI know who's who in the meth production and distribution. I have widened my horizons to someone out of the area.
Sadly I feel that taking her to a different area it would be easy to conceal her even out in public. I live on the East Coast and everyone I've spoken to about this case had no idea it even occured until i mentioned it to them... If they take her to a city far enough away its possible she can be walking out on the street and not even turn a head in suspicion.

Meth can be made in a car. They are known as "mobile meth labs" We had one blow up in town recently.

Yes. I know someone personally who found a "mobile" set-up on their personal wooded acreage. I won't describe it here, but it was made to keep everything weather proof and mobile on the fly. It could easily have picked up, carried out by one and put in the trunk of a car.
