Me too.
I'm trying to think of logical explanations.
I'm imagining what happens at my family gatherings.
Let's say James got off work, two hours or so after the party started. He arrived. The main gift-giving had ended. Folks had already kind of dispersed in the house. The children were playing with gifts. Maybe the grandfather was out working in the garage on something, and didn't see James arrive at that later point. (or taking a nap upstairs, or went and did errands, etc.) So, to him, James "didn't make it to the party". But the sister was in the house the whole time, and James was hanging out with the rest of the family in the later part of the afternoon. Grandpa then returned, after the point everyone had left, never having seen James.
