Maybe they train indoors in the winter? Seems like the snow and cold would be too much otherwise.
Or athletes are athletes, rain, snow etc.. get in the zone and go.

When I first started dating my husband, I was surprised to see that every time he left his vehicle he actually popped out the whole entertainment system (the front popped off and it wouldn't work without that part). I attended college in one of the biggest cities in the country so it wasn't like I'd always lived in a small town, but I'd never seen that before. When my mother-in-law came to visit, she was shocked to see that we never locked our cars here. (In the bigger towns, sure. In my town, no.) In 40 years my car has been broken into one time and the only thing that went missing was some Halloween candy, ha ha.

I mean, most everyone in my area has some kind of firearm at home (it takes local LE almost 30 minutes to reach us and that's only if they're in town) so breaking in on anyone would be risking it. We're not THAT lackadaisical about our safety.

I do know people who automatically grab their guns or at least put them nearby when they get a knock on their door late at night (like, after midnight). I would really like to know, as someone else said, whether there were any guns in the Closs home and if James or Denise had gunshot residue on them. If he had his on him, then I would go with the idea that he wasn't expecting anyone or was at least being cautious. If he had a gun but didn't have it on him, though, then that might make me wonder whether he knew the person or was expecting them. Earlier, someone wondered if perhaps the perp was visiting them for some reason and then grew angry, went back out to his vehicle, and grabbed his weapon with James locking the door behind him.

Interesting thoughts presented here. Good post.

In Wisconsin?
Yes and nationally. All sports in the US run on very similar schedules. (Swimming/football/soccer/baseball)

This works in order to have national championships. (Footlocker regionals are at Thanksgiving - the Midwest regionals are held every year in Kenosha. My kids raced there in middle school and in high school) NIKE runs around the same time. College scouts will be at these events.

Yes, the pics in denim jacket are the day of the party, from what I understand.
For some reason media persist in using a pic appears to be older, ie, she is younger...the one I first saw & only one I saw for the first couple weeks. Was surprised when I saw the more recent pics. She looks very different
Media persists in using it though.....the one where her head is down, hair in her face a bit and smiling up at the camera....I wonder how old that pic is?
She just looks much different in that pic compared to ones from the party....from the last day of her life: you'd just think they'd have used those from the get go

The one winter I visited Wisconsin they got 21 inches of snow dumped on them in one night. My son is on track and Xcountry. Even though we live in the south, we still get snow and ice. Coach won't let them run on it because he's afraid of injury. We have a three-county indoor track that the whole area uses for training during the winter months.

eh - should say - last day before she disappeared - not 'last day of her life'
but guess that might be a freudian slip: I'm not feeling too optimistic myself on her chances of being alive :(

Except that her sister spoke with her that night at 8:30.
That right there tells me more than likely nobody else was in the home at that time or her sister probably would have known. So, imo nobody was there at that time other than the family. What transpired after that? Because of the timeline given us by LE of looking for the cars to be seen in the area (12:30-1:30 a.m.) I believe LE knows the chaos didn't begin until at least a little after 12:30.
That Challenger needs to be found.

What concerns me about those vehicles, is that there are numerous cases where police have been looking for the wrong vehicle.

I’m reminded of that “white box truck” in the DC sniper case. It was really a Blue Caprice.

I have to differ with you re killers and pedophiles. There are many many many examples of this on WS. Too sickeningly many.
No, cases where both parents murdered and child was abducted are exceedingly rare!

I do not recall my kids ever training indoors for events. Their teams trained in rain/snow and sleet. (No lightening though)

But here’s a link to the USATF XC Championship my daughter raced in December 2005 in Rhode Island - “ blizzard-like conditions that rocked the northeast” ...”at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships held at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island”

Hence training in almost all conditions... blizzard

I have not seen the pic from the day of the party...can it be posted?

FYI I have noticed in several cases over the years that the media will latch on to younger-looking pics of victims...which makes no sense when the person is missing.

Incredibly rare. That’s one reason why this case is getting so much attention.

In most cases, you have numerous other cases in which to draw a comparison. This isn’t the case here.

That’s why our theories are all over the place.

if it is a sudden ambush why aren't dad and mom just shot in their bed or near their bed? why would someone come in like it seems, fast and LOUD, why not just quiet and precise?

I get hung up at different points each time I try to reason this whole thing out. today I am hung up at the front door, that is where it seems the first violent contact was made I cant move on from there without understanding at least some part of it.
The 2 reasons that come to mind:
1) It was a tactic to instill fear, while the perp was emotionless or sadistically enjoying it. To terrorize. As in a Psycho.
2) Rage.
Now this is emotional and the entirely opposite path.

These are 2 very different types of people.

Okay this is a total mom brag. My daughter was individual state champ x 2. She medaled nationally. And my sons team was state champs.

This was all them. I just bought the shoes and got them to 2 a day practices. ;) Honestly, the crappier the weather- the better they raced

How long is the cross country season?

The runners go by quickly. It would have to be someone is a stationary position who can watch them. Someone at a home . At a window, they would only have a short vision as they passed. Someone in a car would not see enough as they ran by.

Posters have shared some of Jayme's race times and videos. It appeared that she was more of a novice runner. One of the great things about cross country is that it is usually an inclusive, no-cut sport. As a coach, that does pose some safety challenges. We may have dozens of kids out on a route at practice, separated literally by miles. The front runners are usually fine, but our back kids can be more prone to getting separated and lost. Many of them may walk a good deal as well. As coaches, we don't leave until everyone is back and we have periodically had to go back out in cars or on bikes looking for kids. Unfortunately you hear stories of women being taken while jogging all the time. That is certainly the biggest fear. We require all our kids to wear GPS devices when they run. Some parents opt to pay for premium subscriptions on some recording sites where they can watch their kid real time or get an alert when their child's speed varies too much (ie, if they speed up too much, the implication is that they may be in a vehicle--possible against their will--instead of on foot).

Interestingly, I have gotten a few e-mails from random bystanders (such as an uncle of a runner from another team, specifically) who have been to the same race as our team who feel compelled to wax poetic about some of my slower kids--how inspirational they are, how they keep chugging away, etc. They mention the kids by name, even though they have never met them. It is easy enough to figure out from results and/or bib number. I have never gotten an e-mail about any of my superstars, though, interestingly enough...

<modsnip - quoted post and reference to it removed for rumor>
Also going back to an observance I mentioned earlier regarding the quietness of the town .Not many remarks from friends or family regarding information they know about the family. It's curious to me that we haven't heard anyone discussing their interactions with the family in the prior weeks/days. Maybe it takes more investigative reporting by a news outlet, but many times when a crime occurs you hear from co-workers, friends ,or family who may say EX..." I just saw so and so last week.. "so and so is my boss an he's great.." IMO.

Update info from the link:

On a Sunday nearly one month ago, Jennifer Smith held a birthday party for her grandson at her Barron, Wisconsin home. Jennifer’s sister Denise Closs, who lived just a couple of miles away, came to the party with her husband Jim and their 13-year-old daughter, Jayme.

Moo, IF there as any 19 year old boy, he is not a boyfriend. Could be a crush one direction or the other, a relative of a family friend or bother of Jayme’s friend, a guy at church, a random guy who works somewhere they frequented (grocery store, restaurant). Idk why, but I think she may have thought he was cute, blushed in his presence, been nervous, but in a very innocent way. He likely wasn’t even aware of it but her friends or parents may have noticed. I think this is why the no comment, there’s no “boyfriend” but there could be a 19 year old who has been looked at and probably is not involved.

So much this. If there's a 19 y.o. in the picture, this isn't a "boyfriend," "beau," or "romantic interest." This would be a straight up statutory rapist/wannabe predator. She's 13. The Wisconsin Age of Consent is 18 years old and they have no Romeo/Juliet exemption (only a marital exemption).
