Sheriff gets over 1,000 tips as search for abducted teen continues
"We are hopeful to learn more about the Closs family to help bring Jayme home," Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said in a statement Friday. "If you spent time with members of the Closs family recently, or if you have ever had a misunderstanding with members of the Closs family, or know someone who has, please call the tipline."

Fitzgerald said the public should be mindful of someone who missed work suddenly; missed scheduled appointments; suddenly left town without a reasonable explanation; changed appearance; is acting anxious, nervous, or irritable; or is paying an unusual amount of interest -- either too much or too little -- to the progress of the Closs investigation.
I wish this would be true but Mollie's killer went to work as if nothing happened

Oviedo got me thinking that James having a second job makes more sense as Jennie-O wouldn't typically be running production on a Sunday. The other possibility is that he wasn't really working and used it as an excuse to stay home from the kid's birthday party. Has law enforcement ever said anything about him being at work that day? I have only read the interview with the Grandpa that says that.

501 would be the ambulance.

Also, the officer saying the parents were unresponsive doesn't mean they were alive. The EMS crew would be the ones to make that call not the officer.

Just for clarification purposes when it comes to context released in Wisconsin. Every county has their own protocals when it comes to what they radio in to dispatch. I know it can be a little confusing and can through people into further speculation about what they heard or did not hear.

I dont live in Barron County and are not familiar with what their protocals are. I know in the county I live in an officer can call in a PNB (Pulseless Non Breathing) sometimes life saving measures are attempted here without EMS being on scene and I am aware that in ny county a LEO can request a coroner without EMS being on scene and then EMS is canceled.

Maybe someone in here is from Barron County and can chime in if they have a scanner and what their protocols appear to be?

Also I am very happy that Barron County has a ME! I feel investigation take much longer in the county I live in when foul play is suspected because everything then has to go through Madison.

I also find it interesting that the dispatcher initially logged the disturbance as suicidal. Do they typically do this when they hear people yelling in the background? My immediate thought would be a robbery or break in. I wonder what caused them to believe suicide?

We don't know what is audible on the 911 call. It would be a reasonable assumption that while somethings might be difficult to make out other parts of what was going on in that house have been caught during this brief 911 call.
Due to the fact that the 911 caller thought this was a suicidal person, and the press conference has stated Jayme was present during the murder (s) there is some argument that going on. Evidence supports some of this call is audible.

We do know James was killed just inside the door and the door was kicked in. This could be he opened the door saw who it was and attempted to close it. The perp (s) then knocked the door in and shot him.

This tells us there was no lay and wait. James was shot answering the door. This also leads to the possibility that he, in fact, did know the person at the door to answer it that late at night.

If the neighbor did look at her clock and 12:32 am is accurate. The fight could have been between Denise and third party or Jayme and third party. We do not know a time of death for Denise.

I also think it is interesting someone is driving back and forth down a street on a Sunday at 1a-3a in the morning.

LE should look at people they know. Was either James or Denise having communication with someone outside the marriage? Was there a person unrelated to the family that was a little too close? Did Jayme have a boyfriend? Was there any family disputes?

This sounds like they have nothing at all to go on.

Maybe so.
What a depressing thought , if this is where LE is at.

Actually I was hoping this meant that LE are looking at a possible acquaintance of the Closs family ?

Not sure what to think anymore.
I'd surmise LE and/or the FBI have spoken to the surviving Closs family members and distant relatives who've been in touch with Denise , James, or Jayme.
And they should know by now if there were any simmering feuds and if so, why ?

Some excellent sleuthing going on here at WS !

Jumping off this,I wonder if any local high schoolers missed school in the days following? I think this would be worth a shot to check into.
I did find it slightly odd that Chris specifically said "we are working with the Barron school district" (not verbatim, could have been worded slightly different). Seemed like a loaded statement on first impression. Although I don't know if that was an answer to a question someone had asked him about looking into Jayme's school and he was just confirming. Could be routine and nothing specifically behind it.

I thought the very same thing.

Many days later they are just now asking these simple questions???

I hope this doesnt become another unsolved case and just because the FBI is helping doesnt mean it's close to being solved.

They had the FBI on the ground immediately when Shasta and Dylan were taken. 7 weeks later Shasta is brought home and there again the FBI nor any of the LE agencies didn't have a clue who the suspect could be.

Imo

Didnt the 911 transcript state multiple rounds? Wonder why the neighbor only heard 2... Could it be just the first 2 she heard and not the one(s) that killed Mom?

That's my best guess. They heard the start of the confrontation when the suspect(s) shoot dad twice as he either opens the door or tries to keep the door shut. The neighbors hear this happen with one shot being totally outside and the second as they are going in. Denise is killed later and in a different part of the house that the neighbors didn't hear because enough time had passed for them to be less alert to noise. But just my best guess.

I have been looking at all of the photos of Jayme and she seems to be so naive.

She doesnt appear to want to look older than she is like many girls her age.

Now I am doubting she would chat online with anyone she didnt personally know.

I think she lived a life where her parents instilled in her to enjoy whatever age she is and not grow up too fast but enjoy being a young child for as long as possible.

Now I am even doubting she would have a boyfriend.

I know you cant judge everything by photos but I get the feeling she may have even been very shy around boys.

Just a feeling...nothing more.

This has been my feeling since the get-go. I just do not see anything about her that says "chatting online with strangers" or "boy crazy" in any way. I believe she is purely innocent in all of this.

Wouldn't the log have noted if one of the responding officers was actually able to speak to James? And also requesting EMS immediately? Or do we think that info has possibly been redacted for public view?
Not really sure, and that is a good point about the logs stating such, but I feel there has to be a reason that the assumption was made so quick that she was not only missing but missing and endangered. I am looking back at similar cases right now where the parents or parent was killed and there was a child missing from the house (both that were victims and ones that turned out to be the perp.) just to see what the initial reaction was.

I am wondering if the neighbor heard shots at 12:31am that killed dad (first)—kill the man first. Then mom was killed sometime between 12:31am and when the 911 call was made.

On a positive note, I can remember MANY cases where we thought there was no evidence and the bam!! An arrest! I sure hope this is the case here. Where are you Jayme?

“Later found” that implies she was not in the front part of the house, IMO. What could this mean? Wish we knew exactly where they found mom.
I’ll also add, this sounds like James could have been answering the door OR chasing behind the perp running out with Jayme. MOO.

Edit* with mom in back of house perhaps they were going to bed or already there.

Our officers are allowed to render immediate aid - CPR etc. we have lots of near drownings here...

I too think the hunting angle needs to be explored more. Who did dad hunt with, where did he hunt? That area is loaded with local hunters and this time of year, out of state hunters (mostly mn), and disagreements are not uncommon from what my hunting friends tell me. And I don't mean a racial thing, but more of outsiders vs locals.
All of this feels like a "hunted" like scenario. This was planned, not spur of the moment event. Seems like much care was taken from what we know, and what LE does not seem to know.

First time poster. But thought I could lend some perspective on the hunting inquiry. I live in Minneapolis, but I am an avid trout fisherman, and I was fishing south of the crime scene in Wisconsin on Sunday. Monday, October 15th was the last day of the trout fishing season in Wisconsin. Western Wisconsin is a a popular location for Twin Cities fly/trout fisherman, but Barron isn't considered a hot spot by any means, (but I do fish a few areas that are less then 5 miles from the Closs house to the west on Hwy. 8). Fisherman are regularly out on the last weekend every year. You have to be very aware of your fishing locations in October because there are so many hunting seasons going on right now. Primarily Bow hunting deer season and gun/birds, but the primary deer/gun season is later in fall. It's very common to hear gun shots this time of year. It's also relatively common to have black bear encounters (I've had two in the last two years).

As a separate note, since I was fishing south of Barron on Sunday. It was unseasonably cold (coldest end of trout season in recent memory) with temps hovering around freezing or slightly above into Monday. It was actually snowing for the better part of the day around the region, but only briefly sticking to the ground. It's also worth noting that woods like the ones surrounding the Closs house can be deceptively rugged and dense. It can be challenging to hike through some of these wooded areas even in broad daylight.

I am closing this thread. The Alerts are out of control. The whole forum is being neglected because we all have to babysit this thread.

A new thread will open in the next couple of hours.
