WI - Madison, school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School 16 Dec 2024

By virtue of the shooter getting and using the gun, all safety measures weren't used (if she got the gun from her home, that is).
It's possible the gun was properly stored in a gun safe and she found the key.

I can agree with this and should have said the safest way possible - nothing is 100% anymore - imo - especially when one is just one Google or YouTube search away from being able to break into even a gun lock or gun safe (not that there is any proof at this time that this is what happened in this case OR that there is such videos)

Info about Wisconsin's gun storage laws.

ETA from the link:
Wisconsin has no laws that require unattended firearms to be stored in a certain way.
Wisconsin also does not require a locking device to accompany the sale of a firearm, and no state statutes require firearm owners to affirmatively lock their weapons.

I think there's storage and there's storage... A 5 year old child will not unlock a gun cabinet. A 15 yr old? A 15 yr old has enough smarts to find a key. Totally different on parental gun storage.

MOD NOTE: Watch your sources - the source that has published the UNVERIFIED manifesto is not approved here. It's named like a local news source might be but is not. Law enforcement has said that as of now, the manifesto is unverified. If it's later verified, that will be announced through LE sources and MSM.
Read the unverified manifesto. Very disoriented.

For sure. Now there's legal precedence for charging parents who don't properly secure their fire arms and children using them for crimes. Crumbleys https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/09/us/james-jennifer-crumbley-sentencing/index.html
@LAborn Thx for your post. Here's WS thread #7 on that case.
or
GUILTY - MI - 4 students killed, 6 injured, Oxford High School shooting, 30 Nov 2021 *Arrest incl parents* *teen and both parents guilty* #7

Tons of evidence in Crumbley case: parental neglect over time & the specific day of shooting, & some attempted cover-up & lying to LE in the aftermath. IIRC, they also their a son a gun as a gift. Inviting correction on that or on other points.

ATM in this case, it's early days. Premature to draw factual, legal, or moral conclusions about any parental potential responsibility.

Maybe she wore that shirt because she liked the band KMFDM. There is nothing controversial about the shirt or the band. Yes, a Columbine shooter liked them too, but so do I, and so do tons of people around the world. I wear their shirt too, and I am a law-abiding, 48-year-old high school teacher and happily married father of 6 wonderful children. Should I not be wearing their shirt either? KMFDM have been around for 4 decades and just played a show in Milwaukee on their tour a couple months ago. Maybe she was there, who knows? I have seen Alice Cooper live too. Did you know he is a church-going Christian man and a very kind person? His music may be dark, but it is art.

Sorry, but the fault lies with the shooter, as she made the decision to kill people. We can't blame a band or even her parents or the school at this point. We will likely learn more about her parents, but they ultimately did not do the crime. A school can only vet so much due to privacy laws. If she had a clean record, there might not have been anything to uncover. I feel awful for this girl, as a father of five daughters, including two teenagers, and whatever happened in her life for her to make this rash decision at such a young age, but the blame lies squarely with her. Feel free to refute me, but those are my opinions.

Yes. You wear the shirt but to a gun range? Seems to imply she had an agenda. Just an opinion.

I don't handle guns, so no, but again, we can't blame her like of a band for a school shooting. She appears to have had an agenda, yes, but how does KMFDM play into that? They don't advocate for school shootings and spoke out strongly against the Columbine massacre. Like I posted earlier, their music is aggressive and often abrasive, but it is the industrial music style, which I listen to a ton of and even create in my life with no negative impact.

Anyone who has actually listened to the lyrics from KMFDM will realize that their music is absolutely the anthesis of any sort of hatred. I am not a fan, but I knew someone who was a huge fan and listened to more than my fair share.

Until we hear otherwise, I'm just going to think she was a fan. I'm a big Michigan State Spartan fan, I wear their shirts all the time. Nothing more to it.

I guess it depends on why she would wear that t-shirt. Was she a fan of the music or a fan of Columbine? The latter would certainly have signiificance.

Good point and I wondered about that too, since the unverified manifesto does mention Eric Harris.

Officials said the father allowed them entry with consent. So, why did police blast the door down? Break into a window?

Yeah I think the shirt is not about the band but a signifier for Columbine.
