Found Safe WI - SMF, 16, Beaver Dam, 2 Feb 2025 *3 mo's pregnant, believed to be with 40-year-old father of the baby*

What a relief to read at last she was found safe. A bow to the lady trucker who cared enough to save her. I was honestly losing hope.

His charges in Nebraska are contributing to the delinquency of a child, false reporting misdemeanor and three counts of being a fugitive from justice.

His charges in Wisconsin are much more severe.

Day has charges of child abduction and child enticement stemming from July 2024 and new charges stemming from his most recent abduction in February. His charges from February are the same: child abduction and child enticement, making it four total charges from the state of Wisconsin in Dodge County.

Really great news.
I don't understand why people are suggesting she not go back to her parents. It's none of our business, but it could work out well down the line. As a teenage mother, she will need all of the support she can get from her family. I am sure they will be provided with family therapy, etc. JMO.

ETA: The trucker who called in the tip is a brave amazing woman. Such a hero!

Not certain if anyone has stated or suggested that she not go back to her parents.
Just that the underlying issues that made her want to leave in the first place may need to be addressed ?
Yes, SF is a minor, but is old enough to decide where she would like to live, and mostly how she wants to move forward, so here's hoping she will be allowed a say in what happens next, now that the perp is locked away and she is safe.
Imo.

I'm on the same wave length as you are in questioning her returning to her family.

As for how the pair made it to the Love’s Truck Stop in Nebraska, London said they hitchhiked.

“Mr. Day had a vehicle, a Buick, and apparently it broke down in Idaho, and then they hitchhiked with another trucker from Idaho all the way into Sarpy County,” London said. “So that’s how they got here.”

“I can’t even begin to say how grateful I am,” Leah Franklin said. “They found her on her birthday. Wow if that’s not a good thing I don’t know what is.”

better one call too much to 911 than one call too less. Reading between the lines of the presser, IMO she was also not well groomed and probably not looking that well fed. Obviously sth looked off, apart from the age difference, his grown beard did not help him for sure and probably both were not very clean either.

Inconsistent stories, that maybe indicates she was not thatok anymore to be under his influence. I wonder which identity he invented for them.

Anyhow, as this thread will be closed soon, I just wish to conclude that I am extremely happy for her and her parents and the unborn baby. We will never know how things develop but I wish her all the happyness she deserves.
She will be taken care of in a loving environment and hopefully will recover from the trauma soon enough.
I wish we had this type of closing for many other cases of missing children.

As a former child kidnapping victim I hope this creep gets the longest prison sentence possible. I have many other words to say but they don't meet the guidelines for community standards here
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope your perpetrator got all the time they deserved and that you have healed.

I'm so glad to see Sofia was found safe and well, and her baby is healthy too. Hopefully she can heal, reconcile with her family, and move forward.

Sofia was found! I figured he was doing the absolute bare minimum of taking care of her, he preys on young girls to take care of him so there was no elaborate running away plan. Hitchhiking and putting her in danger of possibly being exploited. You never know what can happen if you get in a stranger's car/truck. I am happy she was found before he put her in more danger.

The husband and wife, they realized that something didn’t seem right. So the wife went over and talked to Gary Day and Sophia Franklin and their stories didn’t match. It was very inconsistent,” said Sarpy County Sheriff Greg London.
I didn't see this before. It was a husband/wife duo that called it in to LE. Just a tidbit to keep the good news rolling.

Homeland security is running the investigation. 6:08 mark of the presser linked above. Assuming that is due to the Mann act. Good, they appear to be planning to throw every book they have at Mr. Day.

SF was held at the juvenile detention center (she is not facing any charges) until her parents can get there.

"[Her] parents were contacted and as far as I know, the parents are coming to Nebraska to reunite with their daughter"
