WS Members/loved ones who have Coronavirus or testing for Coronavirus (Group Hug)

Wanted to chime in, unfortunately. My 3 year old granddaughter has tested positive as of today and my oldest daughter(her mom), is showing signs, mostly loss of smell, awaiting her test results- along with her other 2 children. I’ve never felt more helpless and useless. As a mother we are supposed to protect our children and throw in my grandbabies and I’m a wreck right now. I visited my daughter the day she started feeling sick, at her job and was within 3 feet of her but we both wore masks. I also utilized the bathroom at the store she works at. Should I be self isolating? Also any advice or words of wisdom would be much appreciated at this time. Relieved to have this platform to share and care with one another. Thank you, WS.

So sorry to hear this, and that you were at your daughter's workplace when she was almost certainly contagious. I hope the contact was limited enough that you won't get Covid. I would self isolate in your situation, though. Can you ask your doctor about what you should do?

How long were you around her? Masks don't really matter as far as quarantining as a close contact.
I’d say approx 5 minutes? Maybe 8? We stood pretty close and chatted a bit.

Hugs, SAMS, and all the best to you, your daughter and your little granddaughter, and the other two children.

I want to preface this post by saying IANAD, and everything is jmo.

Re: level of exposure, this is interesting and I would be curious as to what @mickey2942 , @10ofRods and @dixiegirl1035 would say re: whether or not you should be quarantining, with masks and 3 feet. Some relevant aspects/ questions imo, if I may, was it indoors? How big is the room and what is the ventilation like? Any open windows, etc? What type of mask were you both wearing? Also importantly imo, how long was the contact?

One thing I will say, there is no doubt she was infectious at the time of your meeting, if she is positive, based on you saying she started getting ill/exhibiting symptoms that day.

As to the level of viral load, etc., hard to say but IMO, I would err on the side of caution wrt quarantining, especially if it was indoors with poor ventilation. Jmo.
As for exact guidance on this, I would need to know how long the potential exposure was, ventilation aspects, mask type, etc. to further assess risk based on my opinion, etc. imo jmo IANAD, crosschecking of course with current guidance.

As for the shared bathroom, I think that’s a potential risk element as well, jmo, moo, for a few reasons, as they have been named as risky locations in some articles and would be considered a risky location imo especially if/since she may be positive.

To be clear, the term for you would be “quarantining”, not “isolating”, as the latter is used to describe positive patients. Quarantining is if you’ve been potentially exposed or identified as a contact.

Hang in there, hopefully all of you will be mild and/or asymptomatic. Here for support.
Hugs back at cha and I’m grateful for your response.
If you’ve ever been inside a Lowe’s home improvement store, that’s where I was-inside at the front customer service desk. Cloth masks, pretty good ventilation I assume very big area. Close, say 2-3 feet now that I think about it we were certainly close enough to speak low. The bathroom trip in itself worries me. Ty so much again.

Ty for the kind words!

How long til your daughter and other two children receive test results, do you know? I hearing testing is a madhouse right now with people getting tested before traveling, as well as the increasing cases.

Also, what day was your contact? Mark that on a calendar just in case.

I am doing that right now, thank you. It was this past Friday, Nov 20. She should know results on her and other two kids within few days. I can imagine it’s a madhouse in the testing centers/lines rn but I better get tested to be on the safe side.

Close contact is defined as 15 minutes and 6' apart or less. Within 2 days (prior to) of showing symptoms.

This is what the NHS guidelines are, if it helps. This gets confusing for us though as it says you only self isolate if track and trace contact you..but we know there are delays and issues with t & t. And they will base it on these guidelines anyway.

Sorry your family are unwell and you have this worry. I hope it will pass you by.

You would be under "quarantine" because you are a direct contact to a positive case. But if you test, it may be negative, it takes a week or so for viral load to show positive. That is why people need to do a full 2 week quarantine.

You will be okay. There are so many positive stories about people having Covid, we just don't see those stories on the media. Most people are okay.

It is a helpless feeling. I had the same "Mama Bear" feeling when my daughter was sick. Instead, I ordered her a "TLC Care Package" to be delivered to her...I picked all yummy fruit, juice, OTC meds, tea, chicken soup, crackers, delivered to her door.

And my daughter is over her Covid, doing fine now.

So I hit all of the buttons except 15 minutes.

Oh thank you I’ve not read this before and I’ve just saved and sent to my daughter.

Thank you for sharing. You made me smile thinking of the care package and the love we all have as parents is a beautiful love to have. I will definitely be taking a page from your book and ordering a care package. Blessings to you.

Add Pedialyte, diarrhea is a nice little side effect of Covid that doesn't seem to be mentioned much.

My heart reaches out to you - when my kids were exposed and put in quarantine I was a wreck and they haven't tested positive. So I can honestly say - I can't totally relate to you. I just know how devastated I was that it was even a possibility and knowing there was nothing I could do to help. These Moma's emotions are a strong reality that we can't escape. Prayers with you

I just asked my daughter if she had any pedialyte. All of the kids have diarrhea. Ugh. Thank you much again!

I used to get the pedialyte freezer pops.
(Not bad for a hangover either)
