Judges can and do put gag orders on "open" cases, but in AL's disappearance the problem is that there is no "case." Theoretically, there could be a gag order on LL's welfare case (though I have no idea why there would be), but a judge can only place a gag order on parties and attorneys under their jurisdiction... and here no judge has "jurisdiction" over AL's "case." (As an aside, random family members could never be subject to a gag order for the same reason: they are not parties to a case.)
Similarly, a judge has no authority to stop the media from commenting on a particular case, so a judge-issued gag order in the US can never apply to the media writ large (contra "super-injunctions" in the UK). Statutes purporting to prevent the media from reporting on particular subjects are typically struck down as unconstitutional on 1st amendment grounds, but "freedom of the press" doesn't affect the ability of a judge to issue a gag order on court participants... it just means that if the press reports comments made in violation of a gag order, nothing can happen to the reporter directly (just the order-bound party).
WESTON -- The FBI announced Thursday that it is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the disappearance of Aliayah Lunsford, 3.
"As soon as you'd see her she'd steal your heart," Great Uncle Jesse Prunty said. "She was loving, caring, not a mischievous bone in her. She just loved to play, play with her brother. She enjoyed it."

I guess what I am getting at; The great aunt surely knows Lena has "issues". But she is getting her info from her sister, who she appears to be very worried about. Is it naive on the aunt's part to believe her Joann? Perhaps. But I don't believe there was any malicious intent on her part.
I've never believed that LE/FBI in this case or any other is going to wait to arrest a pregnant woman until she gives birth if they have enough on her to make their case stick. They're just not going to do that. And I'd have a really really low opinion of them if they did. But that's not how it works. If you've got a solid case, you arrest the woman. The only thing I believe right now (and which it appears LE has even stated) is that they are still working on building a case. It's similar to a lot of comments that were flying around online in the Celina Cass case; a lot of folks thought LE was just waiting around to arrest one of the family member until he got out of a medical facility. It didn't happen. No arrest. Same thing here... LE will make an arrest when they're ready to make an arrest, and the timing of that has nothing to do with a woman's due date.
As far as Facebook drama goes... it's probably clear that I don't have a high opinion of the role FB has come to play in these cases. If I were advising any family in this kind of situation, I'd tell them to make sure to be visible enough so that people keep talking about the case on FB (to keep the story front & center), but not to go there themselves. Kind of like encouraging them to do an interview with the local newspaper but not with the Enquirer.
Edited to add this about the 'gag order': I didn't believe there ever was a gag order on the media. I think they were told at the very beginning, when there were organized searches involving volunteers meeting at a central place, to keep their distance and not interfere or distract the organizers & searchers by trying to get interviews there. But a gag order? It never made sense. LE tells their own people not to talk to the press; they don't tell the press they can't talk to anybody. And any halfway decent journalist would know that and just keep doing their job. IMO, the local media in this case has not done well at all.
Just watched the all three segments of the PC (thank you Westinlund).
Was it just me, or did anyone else notice Killeen's demeanor in regards to Aunt Vickki?
Good morning WS!
We have been tearing up the wires last night, discussing having a peaceful "demonstration" outside of 49 Dennison St. We want to use signs such as "Help Find Aliayah" and "Tell us Aliayah's Story". Several people are researching the legalities and resources needed to get it done. There are a lot of people here in the community that feel that we have been sitting on our asses way too long.
Thanks so much for posting the entire press conference! I know it takes time-but it was SO nice seeing all of it!!
Great idea --but be very veryyyyyyyyyyyy careful. -Could I suggest about a 5:30 am wakeup call---?:floorlaugh: (they would love that I'm sure)
And while your there--do ME a huge favor-ask RL why he quit his job the day Aliayah went missing-cause he sure hasn't been hitting the pavement searching for her.
OMG whoever built this site did an AWESOME job. I love it!!! I wish they would created one for every missing childs case!!!! Love it!!!
ACandyRose is a long-time member of WS and she does a fabulous job archiving cases. Every detail, and the links to back it up. Meticulous researcher.
I cannot give her enough praise.
Here's the main page with many cases:
