Agreed. I still cannot believe that this happened to Gabby and that the police did wth they did, which was basically NOTHING to help her--it still grinds my gears something awful :| [....]

All IMO:

SAME!
I know the family is attempting to hold Utah accountable. I'd hoped they'd also bring action against North Port FL police. Even if it turns out unsuccessful, at least there'd be a public airing of their atrocious actions, or lack of. I actually feel physically sick thinking back to how NP police mishandled this case.

They continually fumbled from even before Gabby was reported missing, all the way up to after Brian was found. And probably after, but that's when I had to stop following the case.

Like many, I watched it all unfold in real time. North Port was over their head, and their response to their blatant mistakes was to dig in their heels, show arrogance, screw up more, and trot out their condescending, scolding spokesman.

It was too much for me. I hurt so much for Gabby and her family, and was so disheartened and frustrated by North Port police, I had to completely stop following the case. As one of countless empathetic outside observers, I realize that's a privilege we have that her loved ones don't.

Earlier, I even had to block posters here who would fault Gabby and/or defend Brian and his parents.

I do follow and show support on Gabby's family's IG accounts- including her Dad's acct and her family's Gabby Foundation page.

<Snipped for focus>

The Laundrie parents were demonized by many in the media and weren't treated like victims who lost a son to suicide. I hope the media in this special about the GP and BL relationship don't go after the parents or other family members (sibling of BL, for example). It was a tragic situation all around for everyone involved. I applaud GP's family for their efforts to dedicate their lives now to victims of domestic abuse and so honor GP's memory. I also hope the Laundrie family are able to heal in their own way as they move forward from this tragedy.

They were treated the same way as the parents of Casey Anthony, and I believe rightfully so. If I lived in Florida, I might have been out there with the protestors. They harbored a fugitive and murderer and most likely knew it.

ITA. Had they done their jobs correctly, Gabby would still be ALIVE and with her family today. :( (jmo of course)

And Laundrie wouldn't have committed suicide and would have been behind bars for murdering her.

*Monday February 17th, on Netflix.
I am hoping that this program might be able to find the bloke who rang into the police in Moab that warm day, to report what he'd seen that so disturbed him. Heroic stuff... one tends to turn away, generally, and just as generally , this violence does not often take place in public, but there it was, Brian could not help himself, his rage was so intense. Broad daylight, Main street, he gave himself permission to give his bad temper a run.

And how unfortunate for Brian, he was observed by a man who recognised the process that was happening... he understood it to be a crime, requiring police intervention, Immediately. One presumes he recognised it from experience, perhaps his own mother, or his sister, or his daughter... maybe a neighbor.. he had no confusion that he was seeing performative calculated violence, that totally discombobulated Gabby . That observant pedestrian / driver knew at a visceral level that he was seeing an end game, a protracted program of violence. He knew an intervention was demanded.

It would be difficult to believe this was the first time this happened, and it certainly was not the last.. Brian had rage to spare, and he was nowhere near finished with Gabby.. he tried on another performative calculated tantrum at the restaurant, one of their last meals, bigging himself up, screaming about the bill, shouting at the waitress, howling at Gabby... he must have adored himself when he was furious, ... look at moi. ....

That the Moab police fumbled it must have been distressing for this man.

Brian's dead now, and no loss. He left her body out in the open for animals to destroy, his contempt and disrespect for Gabby being unable to resist....to disguise his own inflicted scars upon her.

So glad to hear that they can and have moved forward without any apologies from or legal consequences for the Laundries. Preventing this from happening to others is absolutely all that should matter now as they said. As hard as it will be to watch, I look forward to watching this documentary.

“The fact that we were able to have access to the family was super important,” Gasparro told The Post.

“We were filming the Murdaugh documentary at the time,” he said, when they were told: “The Petito family wants to tell Gabby’s story. There’s been a lot of stuff that’s done. They haven’t really participated in anything….And, that’s something Julia and I have been doing for a while.”

Seeing Gabby Petito’s parents this week brought back a lot of feelings — how much I grew covering the story and how much I didn’t know about domestic violence and what people go through and how they hide their pain.

I just came across this part in the new documentary and noticed the clothes they are wearing are the ones seen in the bodycam footage. Must've been earlier that day.

I watched the Netflix doc. Now we know what happened at the Mexican Restaurant in Jackson. Her stomach was upset and she attributed it to something she ate. She texted Brian from the bathroom that she didn’t want to pay for food that made her sick. That explains both why the restaurant didn’t want to talk about what happened and also why she went back in and asked for their money back after they left.

Yes, as I recall, we had lots of guesses on WS about what was going on, why BL was arguing with staff & why G&B appeared to have "dined and dashed" (since staff followed them outside to collect money.) But we never guessed anything like that was going on. I'm sure we were wrong about other things too.

Having seen the doc, I am even more horrified by the Laundries. The police body cam footage of them in their doorway, refusing to comment at all on the missing partner of their son while confirming he sat inside the house (unseen)? Monstrous. The joking texts between Roberta and her daughter after Brian eluded police surveillance? Bizarre. I remain unsure why the Laundries weren't held more accountable -- legally -- for their actions, which could possibly be as severe as aiding a fugitive.

I don't have Netflix so I haven't watched the documentary.

I was wondering if they portrayed the police and the Laundries as being responsible for Gabby's death.

I’m about halfway through, but the Petitos definitely take their shots. It’s certainly not sympathetic to either of them.

Netflix did a great job of telling Gabby's story. Some docs they do I don't particularly like but this one and the OJ Simspson one they got right on the mark!

It was a great documentary I thought. Gut-wrenching for the whole family and her friends (and those of us who watched I'm sure). I'm so glad that they all traveled together including her friends and gathered to memorialize Gabby, and scatter her ashes at the place where she was finally found. The entire doc was a heartfelt tear jerker for sure. SO still angry that those police for doing the 1000000% WRONG THING!

imho ~ I hope that Karma follows them everywhere and dispenses everything that the Laundries deserve wherever they try to hide... for the rest of their miserable lives... for absolutely not doing the right thing and for emotionally torturing all 4 of Gabby's parents. The 'mother' I find especially disgusting and a horrifically vile human. And I find Brian to be the ultimate coward for his actions.

I agree. Their actions in the bodycam video are ghastly. I'm skeptical that Brian was even alive at that point while they were claiming he was in the house.
