Check the NOAA dates, sarx- easiest way. I don't have time to bring it up- sorry. :(

Yeah, thanks Oriah, I was being lazy and hoping someone already had it cuz I could've sworn I'd seen it at some point!:croc:

I'm in outside of Winston-Salem,NC -- not yet the foothills like Hickory, but often the storm systems are the same.

That week, I had my carport flood up to the first brick step's top. About 6 inches? It is rare for it to get that high, and it was over the first night of rain.

We'd call what we had flooding. Maybe weather services keep flash flood warnings records?

Here in these parts, we have had several severe storms, extreme in my opinion ( I work 20 mins from this site), in theses areas an inch of rain in an hour can cause a creek, river, to rise several feet quite rapidly, hence "Flash Flood"...this is a very common thing in our area,as for this specific location I can't be sure because I wasn't there to witness it.but I can say from 47 years of experience of living in this area, a rise in water level in a creek or river from inches to feet in a matter of hours is quite common, and has occured several times in the past 2 months, just my experience&opinion, nothing more

Did you have a dry summer there?

Maybe a specific thread for SAR Mapping/Topography Only might be a good idea for those who don't want to discuss anything other than the maps/geography/water levels and such.

Since there are many other valid SAR-related topics that people may also want to discuss, it would save those who want to drill it down to those specific topics the trouble of wading through anything else. JMO.

Hi all, I've been gone all day and I know this can be irritating to ask sometimes but can someone PLEASE with sugar on top fill me in on todays updates:angel::blushing::dance::loser:

Creek search today near intersection of Dudley Shoals Rd. And Burns Road. Ongoing into the night (if I'm not mistaken). Something found...no idea what.

This thread has been just as the title says "search and recovery effort and input" for the first 35 pages. I am not sure why we should start a new thread for it when this is the thread that has been working those specific tops for the last 35 pages?

Who could deny you?

Searchers in the Dudley Shoals area searched in and around Gunpowder Creek. LE has confirmed to some reporters that something was found today, but won't say what. LE guarding area tonight...back tomorrow morning for more. That's it in a nutshell!

Oh, they HAVE stopped for the night. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Watch out though, several articles are reporting it as Gunpowder Creek and if you try to map it, it will take you to the wrong place entirely! It is Upper Little River near the junction of Dudley Shoals and Burns Road.

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that was what sarx had created this thread for, to try to locate areas that were likely places that perhaps should be searched? I must have been mistaken. Hold on, going back to read Opening post.

I don't think there's a need for a separate thread either...I like reading everything. But it seemed in earlier posts some were a bit put off by some search-related posts that were of a different nature than the mapping and such.

I think we just all have to keep in mind that there are many aspects to a SAR -- one person's interest might be another's annoyance, but all are valid so long as they are SAR-related. Me, I like it all...but for anyone who wants to narrow it down, breaking out a separate thread is always an option. That's all I was saying.

Kat, I'm not sure they've already stopped, but I did hear them say LE would guard the area overnight. Hopefully they've gone home to get some rest and hugs from family and will come back fresh in the morning. :)

found this and thought it would be good over here for you to read.

This thread was created so that SAR members and LE would have some help from the GP. WS has a great group of very smart people who are also working hard to scour maps and find data. This eases their work load. They are looking here. I have been in contact with them daily. This is why it is so important that this thread stay clean, they don't have an extra minute of time to weed through anything that they can't use.

Was just going by the thread title, my friend. :) We can always have a separate non-mapping SAR thread...didn't mean the mappers-only folks had to leave. Just that a second thread might be in order if too many on this thread are opposed to other SAR discussions here.

Again, me, I like it all.
