Thanks to Shiressleuth, I now believe that's what the family is talking about regarding the girls sticking together. I can almost hear the audio of Libby coaxing Abby to hurry and Abby saying she was walking as fast as she could. Libby wouldn't leave Abby behind.

Great point about Libby hurrying Abby! I can see Abby not being able to walk as quickly as Libby on the bridge. That could explain how BG was able to catch up to them.
