Re: BM's status as an experienced hunter.
Where did we get this information from? Was he a hunter in Indiana when they lived there?
The Morphews hadn't been in Colorado all that long, so I am curious how much hunting BM ever did in Colorado. I also question the notion that because of his...
Perhaps BM forged SM's name on something to do with the house sale, and SM found out and confronted him.
Then again, I still don't have a clear picture of the timeline. It sounds like BM planned something for Mother's Day weekend - the girls being away on Mother's Day always seemed odd - but...
A week ago, I thought of this case for the first time in a long time. I sighed to myself and thought, "it's been a year, he got away with it".
Then the news broke and all I can say is 'wow'.
eta: my heart goes out to the two daughters. First their mother, now this - just when they might have...
Two more thoughts regarding the pink bike BM bought.
1) I don't see too many pink bikes, and certainly not being ridden by men, so I'm pretty sure BM wasn't buying it for himself.
2) Perhaps BM bought the bike for one of the daughters. A bit odd - SM was the cyclist, so presumably it would...
For the record, as a longtime cyclist, I can't imagine anyone buying a new bike for parts. Maybe buying a used/wrecked bike cheap for parts, but anyone doing that would probably not be taking their bikes to a shop for work.
Why was BM's friend so sure 'evidence' was being destroyed by LE?
I think BM actually intended for the Broomfield job to be done that weekend - whether or not it was an alibi he needed or because for some bizarre reason he wanted some of his workers out of town, it was a legit job. So during...
I wonder how many routes there are from Salida to Broomfield. If the crew was heading to the hotel and BM had already left - and JP knew he was leaving - I'm kind of surprised they didn't see each other on the highway coming and going.
Thank you @OldCop!
One thing that struck me as possibly odd in your recap: did the girls call BM when they couldn't get in touch with their mother? It seems logical to me that he would be the first person they would call, not the neighbor.
The note is absurd, even for someone as rattled as BM probably was when caught rummaging through a trash can.
"Hey, guys, my wife has gone missing, so please be on the lookout for a blue bike helmet and some cycling clothes".
If anyone had questioned me when I was rummaging through the trash...
Yeah, this really doesn't make sense to me. Go to a market and ask them to be on the lookout for a bike helmet or cycling clothes? Where? Stuffed between the cans of corn and carrots? Left in the bathroom? Someone walking in wearing a baby blue helmet?
I don't know what he was doing, but I...
(snipped for brevity)
Thanks for clearing that up. It could be that since the second 'item' was found, the Sheriff/CBI have decided it didn't belong to SM.
This morning's thoughts:
No evidence, this is pure speculation, but the incident at the market almost sounds like someone told BM they tossed something in the trash at the market that (or BM accidentally did himself). If that were the case, BM would only be looking in one specific trash can...
I know someone found SM's bike and LE found another item.
Has that item ever been disclosed? I think I recall her helmet being mentioned, but I can't find confirmation of that.
If she was a safe cyclist and wore her helmet properly, it should not be coming off in a crash or fall. BM...
About the phone...We don't know where the phone is. We do know that SM abruptly ended a conversation on Saturday.
Was that the same time as the last time SM's phone pinged? Or did it ping later that evening when it appeared someone was doing something that triggered a bunch of odd FB...
Yes, it appears so, but I don't understand why - or why the Sheriff seemed to quickly dismiss the likelihood of an abduction. I don't believe he was acting on a hunch, I'm sure he had solid evidence.
There have been references to small town 'secrets'.
I am still very curious why LE seemed to focus on BM so quickly. IIRC, didn't LE seal the house and deny him entry when he came back from Broomfield? The Sheriff dismissed BM's suggestions of both a mountain lion attack and an abduction...
Just the female cougars....and bobcats are a whole other story
Seriously, mountain lions have been known to attack people in broad daylight in Colorado and California, including cyclists in Marin County.
