    "Everybody reacts differently to grief"

I have a friend who shed more tears over the death of her cat than the death of her grandmother. Some would find that weird. Some would find that understandable. Judge not, lest ye be judged, as they say. I agree with the defense attorneys, in that how someone appears to grieve means...

PA PA - Brian Wells, 46, Erie, 28 Aug 2003

Did anyone watch last night's AMW? They did a fairly comprehensive overview of the case as it stands. I have to say, the female sounds very suspicious. I'm wondering if she was the "ringleader" behind this. Thoughts?

It would seem to me that if Dale was both into child *advertiser censored* and was molesting (or pimping out) his own kids, that the other kids would have been subjected to similar treatment. That's not a guarantee, of course, but if police can tie him to incidents with his other kids, that's very damning.

It's been a few years since I went to Crater Lake, but... I don't think cell phone service would have been possible. You'd have to drive to the "Rim Village" which has a landline. I can easily see the father not wanting to drive away after only searching for his kid an hour. I don't...

I saw that article. I'm a bit skeptical of it - the writers seem to have an axe to grind, comparing the expedition leader to the Mafia (??), couching a lot of their accusations against him with "rumor has it..." and "allegedly...", which makes me suspicious as to their motives. Heck, people...

It depends on the brand, but I've heard four to six years as long as they are kept sealed.

Maybe it's because we are so close to skiing areas. For thermal underwear, I ordered some silk ones from Sierra Trading Post: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/product.aspx?baseno=12040&CN=Terramar-Long-Underwear%3Cbr%3ESilk-Crew-Neck-Top---Long-Sleeve-For-Men...

Costco has big boxes of hand warmers. Pretty cheap, and you can probably use the hand-warmers in your feet. Keep some food in the car too... energy bars work really well, since they have calories and nutrients. I like Cliff and Luna bars. Trader Joes sells these by the box, and they're...

My understanding is that Everest is difficult mainly because of the lack of oxygen once you are near the top; you end up having to spend basically an entire (LONG) day hiking up to the top, spending 5 minutes there, and then rushing back down to avoid running out of oxygen, even with caches. It...

Just a note... tonight at 11pm on the Discover Channel, they will be airing an episode of "I Shouldn't Be Alive" about three climbers trapped on Mt. McKinley during a blizzard. What might have been :(

They started their climb on Wednesday, Dec 6th. The storm I believe you are referring to didn't start until the following Thursday, the 14th.

I have a regular GPS unit. The problem is that you can't just turn it on and instantly get a position. It takes a few minutes for it to find the satellites and calculate where it is. And it depends very much on sky visibility - if you are in a forest, good luck getting a location. I'm not...

You seem to have made up your mind well before this. And no, I've never been mountain climbing. I've hiked up mountains, and will grant you that I didn't take everything I needed in case I needed to spend the night - because otherwise I would never have been able to hike with all that gear...

How exactly do you know they were climbing without the proper equipment? And why do you think climbing in winter is bad? Should they be climbing through ice and snow when it is warm and it is starting to defrost? I know you have the right to an opinion, but when you spew uninformed opinion as...
