I hope RA isn’t able to commit suicide and is on the strictest watch if it’s true he has tried multiple times. Justice won’t be served if he kills himself.

Moo
Agreed and it's probably a big part of why RA is incarcerated as he his, fair or not in some opinions, the IDOC has the responsibility of his safety (from himself and/or others) while he awaits trial.

MOO

my personal concern with the pre-trial conditions don't have anything to do with the guilt or innocence of RA. my personal opinion is about the precedent that will be set for pre-trial housing in the future and the increased likelihood that this will cause a person who is proven factually-innocent to also be subjected to these conditions.

I haven't been successful in finding much information online regarding other people who have been held in similar conditions while awaiting their trials, so it's hard to form a complete opinion regarding how unusual this is.

ALL MOO

A poster on a previous thread compared jail as a vacation compared to prison. I found this article about Indiana, their jails and prisons. It's from 2022 and an eye-opener as to just how overcrowded the jails are and the problems that can cause. They even send inmates from the prisons down to the county jails sometimes. It's an interesting read that touches on many aspects and opinions.

I still think RA wouldn't make it very long in a county jail, protection-wise, from others and himself. AJMO

2023 Death in Custody Reporting Act data for Indiana, as collected by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

The data for the 2023 calendar year shows a total of 174 deaths in custody across the State of Indiana. This is 3 more deaths than were reported in 2022. In April 2022, COVID-19 related deaths were no longer recorded for DCRA data.

Of these 174 deaths, 56% occurred in state prisons, 28% resulted from police interactions, and 16% occurred in jails. Natural causes/illness accounted for the highest volume of deaths (40%), followed by use of force (21%), suicide (12%), accidental deaths (7%), drug overdose (3.4%), and homicide (2.8%).1 Twenty-six deaths are still pending investigation.

IMO what they've done to RA is not common. I totally agree with your concern about setting a precedent.
One of the men involved in the death of Laurel Mitchell is currently being housed in Miami Correctional on a safe-keeping order. Oddly, IMO, that move didn't go as smoothly as RA's did;. I update that case here.

The Delphi murders defendant is the only pre-trial (non-convicted) inmate currently housed in the prison’s maximum security unit, and the only pre-trial inmate assigned to the unit during the four years that Galipeau has been warden at the prison.

IMO, it is this extraordinarily harsh decision (as to RA’s due process vs safekeeping conditions), and the failure to timely rectify this decision that will continue to haunt this trial.

Well his team seem content to keep him locked up so they also share some of the blame at this juncture.

The Trial could basically be over now if they hadn’t played so many ridiculous games and actually done their job.

it sounds like from the Gary Hughes video he needs a lot of safe guarding even from himself.

IMO

The most responsible decision as RA's defense counsel may have been to help broker a guilty plea, a long year ago. He has the right to plead guilty.

JMO

Yep and the fact he has confessed multiple times to his family and to anybody else who will listen it doesn’t seem like he is trying to hide the fact he did it. So the only reason we are still at this stage is his D team imo

Maybe the D feel they have enough discovery to get a not-guilty finding from the jury.
Maybe his family believes he's innocent and they don't want him to make a deal.

We haven't heard much about the happenings at Wabash Valley.
Maybe he's getting mentally stable and doesn't want to plead guilty.
Maybe when he's back in reality, he will plead guilty.

His defense has been a clown show. The prosecution and the investigation was not done very well.

And in the end, if he truly did confessed as many times as was reported, this will end up a plea deal of some sort when if they come to their senses. I cannot believe there will be a trial.
