A new edition of Huckstepp: A Dangerous Life is a timely release.
----------
Smith was secretly recorded confessing to a cellmate at Long Bay jail that he had murdered Huckstepp and in 2005 he told Dale that Huckstepp was killed because she was causing problems for Rogerson.
----------
"At the time, Rogerson was probably the biggest drug dealer in NSW. He was one of our worst criminals," says Dale.
----------
It's a timely release with Rogerson once again in the public eye because of his alleged involvement in the murder of young drug dealer, Jamie Gao.

So what happens tomorrow?

THE murder trial of former police detective Roger Rogerson faces a delay of up to nine months as lawyers wait for the report of a post-mortem carried out on his alleged victim, Jamie Gao, a court has heard.

Mr Rogerson, once one of NSW Police’s most decorated officers, did not appear in Sydney’s Central Local Court during a brief hearing this morning. His co-accused, another former police officer Glen McNamara, appeared briefly by videolink from Goulburn prison as prosecution lawyer Chris Maxwell QC outlined the weight of forensic evidence involved in the case.

"A scientific analysis of the methamphetamine allegedly found in Mr McNamara's car should be available within two weeks," Mr Maxwell said.

The court heard that this analysis was among a number of pieces of evidence against the two accused killers, including CCTV footage.

This footage is believed to be from a security camera in Padstow that caught some of the last movements of Mr Gao, showing him walking from his sports car on Arab Street with a bag tightly held in his right hand.

Rogerson to fight murder charge: lawyer

Former NSW detective Roger Rogerson will fight the murder charge against him, his lawyer says.

Rogerson and his co-accused Glen McNamara have been charged over the shooting murder of 20-year-old student Jamie Gao in a rented storage shed in Sydney's southwest in May.

The former police officers are also accused of commercial drug supply.

After a brief mention of the matter in Central Local Court, Rogerson's lawyer Paul Kenny told reporters outside the court the 73-year-old "will be pleading not guilty".

He said Rogerson is in ill health and facing harsh conditions at Silverwater jail where he has been held in isolation.

Poor Roger, apparently he is not settling too well into his new home. It's not as if he doesn't know what prison is, he's been there before when he was younger and tougher. Times change. I doubt that he can intimidate anyone any more. JMOO

Oh dear, that was a bit mean of the prison staff there.

I like it.

Disgraced former cop Roger Rogerson has hobbled into the dock at Sydney's Central Local Court this morning. He's making a bail application.
-----
Rogerson appears to be wearing the same black polo and beige jacket he had when arrested back in May. Bail app will start at 10am.
-----
And just like that Roger Rogerson's legal counsel withdraws his bail application for today.
-----
Rogerson's co-accused Glen McNamara is proceeding with his bail application. Offering $80,000 in security.

Roger Rogerson withdraws bail application just moments before Magistrate was to watch three clips of CCTV footage. @dailytelegraph
------
Glen McNamara's bail application going ahead. He has offered $80,000 in surety, court hears. @dailytelegraph
-----
CCTV now being played to court during McNamara's bail application. DPP has told court it is "a very powerful Crown case." @dailytelegraph

I was totes expecting Rogerson to suddenly age about 20 yrs after his arrest...

Not too feeble to run about killing drug dealers, but he's done in and hobbling thanks to a couple of weeks' pillowless sleeping. Poor old fella.

Jamie Gao murder: court sees footage of Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara outside storage shed

Former detectives Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara spent days preparing the murder of a Sydney student, motivated by a desire to rip him off in a large-scale drug deal, a court has been told.

Extraordinary details have emerged in Sydney's Central Local Court on Friday in the case against the two former police officers accused of murdering Jamie Gao, 20, in the city's south-west on May 20.

As Mr McNamara unsuccessfully applied for bail, the court was played security footage from outside the Padstow storage unit where it is alleged Mr Gao was shot twice in the chest in an "execution-style" murder.
Killed: Jamie Gao.

Footage allegedly shows Mr McNamara and Mr Rogerson visiting the unit at 1.16pm before leaving, meeting Mr Gao half a kilometre away and all three returning to the storage shed about half an hour later.

Bolded By Me...That's a new bit of information...
- premeditated? I think the Prosecution will definitely be going for that angle.
I'm sure there will be a few more surprises when this one comes to trial.
Both pleading 'Not Guilty' - both refused bond.

The actions of two former detectives accused of the murder of student Jamie Gao have been described as "brazen" and "matter of fact".
In opposing bail, the prosecution told the court McNamara intended to kill, and that's why he took the empty surfboard bag with him and had his boat ready. It's alleged it was part of a plan to steal the drugs, worth $3 million.
