I Found this to be a bit of a sad read about CCTV Footage in Melbourne. Better CCTV would have made it so much easier to trace the last movements of Jill. I realise people want privacy and all that, but if it saves lives or catches criminals then it's all worthwhile imo.

A couple of quotes below but the full article can be found here - http://www.vexnews.com/2012/09/tric...ey-as-cops-use-it-to-search-for-jill-meagher/

As Victoria Police scour different sources of CCTV vision for clues as to the whereabouts of missing Brunswick young woman Jill Meagher, the Greensparty contesting Melbourne City Council elections have decreed that CCTV is a waste of money and is better spent on 'environmental design in public spaces.'

<snip>

We don’t need publicly funded cameras everywhere but in places known for trouble, they are a good thing indeed. Arguing they are less effective than 'environmental design' in stopping crime is plainly moronic and while the search goes on for Jill Meagher, aided by CCTV vision, deeply offensive.

....and then on the corner, looking toward this complex is an almost identical building of apartments.

Driving in that street, you are completely walled in by these apartment blocks.

IMO

I lived in a very similar setup a few years ago in Sydney. We lived there for almost two years and never once saw/heard anything or even really crossed paths with our neighbours, except for one night when our neighbours lit their couch on fire and threw it out the window :floorlaugh: . That is a bit irrelevant but if someone did grab her and subdue her quickly, there is no guarantee that anyone heard anything.

Probably been discussed - but why was she out so late without TM? Sure, most of us would go out without husbands from time to time but - given there weren't any kids - wouldn't he have joined her?

And there have been no joint interviews with the brother/other family, or any sympathy expressed by her family for TM's distress.

I suspect there have been marital problems for a while, and perhaps he snapped?

Definitely have my money on him! IMHO, of course.

Her brother stood beside TM at the first press conference from memory....I'll have to go link chasing. I think TM mentioned what a help it was having him stay. I assume he's been staying at the apartment.

IMO

Just my opinion - I am Jill's age and I think we live a similar lifestyle (or did until I had our baby last year). I would pretty much always go out without my husband on a Friday with work people. He didn't have much in common with them and would often go out with HIS work people on a Friday. I have no idea what TM does or where he works but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I have a feeling you are right about the marital problems though.

Must have missed that! Would love the link, thanks. :blushing:

she was out with workmates, it would be weird for a partner to be with them IMO.

I used to go out with workmates after work late on friday nights, no one ever had their partner come with them. my stepsister would go out dancing and drinking till gone 3am every friday night with her friends even though she had young kids.

That is a fallacy in Australia.

You are guilty until you are proven innocent, if the Police say so.

Mind you, there have been no arrests so in this case, everyone is still presumed innocent.

Not sure what Australia you're living in, but that is not the law, which is administered by the justice system independently of the police. It is not helpful to bag law enforcement.

However a 'mystery' remains over male voices the brother could hear in the background during the brief call, during which the pair discussed their father's health.

'The issue is if there was something sinister happening at that point she presumably wouldn't be discussing the health of her dad,' Det Insp Potter told Fairfax Radio on Tuesday.

UPDATE: Two more homicide squad police arrive & enter Jill Meagher's apartment in forensic suits carrying an ice chest

The esky may have something in it that needs to be kept cold, as opposed to being used to remove something that needs to be kept cold, maybe?

I could only hit thanks once on your post, but I'll throw another 100 in here for you.

Great post

Well I'm certainly not in the age group any more, so I'll have to go with your experience ...

I think the husbands interviews gives a-lot away ...i hope i'm wrong and it's just my opinion .

I was questioning the snip below that pic, too!

Misleading?

I think the media used those terms to describe something to sound sinister. Misleading in that it creates a sense of TM being 'escorted' rather than helpful.

Does that make sense?

IMO
