From August 04, 2011....

Central Local Court heard when police arrived, Gittany allegedly told them: "We had a fight last night, we just worked out that it was best for her to go home to Canada."

From today's reports...

But when he discovered Ms Harnum had changed the password on his text monitoring program, he said he told her to pack her bags and leave the following day.

All these little inconsistencies.....

Yes, I've noticed that he keeps tripping himself up. imo

"He said the only reason he installed a pinhole camera outside the door of their unit and another two inside was to keep an eye on tradesmen and the cleaner he employed."

"Mr Gittany's barrister, Anthony Bellanto, QC, said his client told police about the security cameras outside their apartment, which he set up to see visitors at the door, and invited officers to look at the footage. ''He further indicated … 'I hope the cameras inside the unit work'. Correct?'' Mr Bellanto asked."

So how many 'tradesmen' does he have coming in that he has to watch them. I hope he told his cleaning lady she's 'under surveillance'
Crock!

Well hopefully all his inconsistencies are apparent and ripped apart when the prosecutor questions him.

In all honesty, I've got to a point where I don't know what to think. I know my emotions have made it impossible to see this objectively. Being a total jerk and abuser does not make him a murderer. On the weight of things, I do believe he is guilty of murder though. The lack of fingerprints, combined with the witness statements is pretty compelling. I don't buy that BS about her being cognitively impaired because she was bulimic. And I find it difficult to believe that she would put herself over the railing when she was so terrified of him that morning.

What I definitely believe is that even if he didn't throw her over, he failed her miserably. If she was a vulnerable type of woman as he wants us to believe, what was he doing to support her? Nothing. Instead he preyed on her weaknesses, isolated her, manipulated her, and destroyed her sense of self. A good man/partner would have had her back and encouraged her to be independent and confident. So if he didn't directly cause her to go over the balcony, he played a huge role in ruining her to the point where things got so out of control that it happened. And he seems to have no remorse even for that.

Fantastic link ... thanks enzeder!

Those balcony shots give very clear perspective of how impossible it would be for Lisa to have leapt ballerina-style over the glass enclosure to her death, especially as she hadn't done ballet classes since a youngster, according to her mum. And those glass enclosures are built for safety, not for easy climbing - by adults or children.

But when I look at how strong SG's arms are, and I look at how skinny (and concealed) Lisa's bulimic body is, it is easy to imagine a fired-up, adrenalin-filled, angry man lifting Lisa in a bundle and dropping her over. :(

Look at those upper arms and shoulders ... very strong! IMO

"As he took his usual route on a Saturday morning in July 2011, Mr Rathmell heard ''deranged'' and ''incomprehensible'' screaming coming from high up in The Hyde apartment block on Liverpool Street, a Sydney court has heard."

At first, Mr Rathmell said he thought it might have been a ''junkie'' throwing something off the balcony in an ''ice rage'', but as he saw people rushing towards the footpath he realised it was something more serious. ''I started coming to the conclusion it's not a black object, but it was in fact a human being,'' he said."

For a day that would remain deeply etched in most people’s minds forever, SG sure can’t get his story straight. More inconsistencies ….

"As she released herself down on to the awning (of the floor below) and her right leg buckled and she fell to her right.
I pushed myself on to the balcony railing (and) I reached down as far as I could to try to get hold of her legs, of any part of her. I couldn't reach, she was too far."

''I saw her step over the railing on to the little cliff face. I was just grabbing her,'' Mr Gittany said, according to the notes of a police officer who interviewed him soon after Ms Harnum's death.
''I might have had her handbag or jacket and then she was gone.''

LISA Harnum was thrown from her balcony by Simon Gittany before she could even remove the handbag she had tried to flee with, the state's senior prosecutor has alleged.

The picture of SG and RL today (in above article) sickens me. Both smiling, holding hands - they may as well start wearing t-shirts of each others faces on them, wear flashing signs that say "look at us!" - I hope they are both feeling very uneasy after today

Lisa Harnum was asked to divulge a secret seconds before her death. But she kept it and a short time later she plunged 15 floors from the balcony of a Sydney high rise and died.

"Would you please just tell me what this secret is?” her fiance Simon Gittany asked.

Was there really a secret? SG claims that he installed the computer program to monitor her texts was because she was hiding something and he wanted to know what. Maybe there was no "secret"? The "secret" is just a way for him to justify his controlling behaviour, and find a reason for Lisa to want to throw herself off the balcony?

I know every person is different, and handles things differently. But from what I have seen of Lisa's final conversations with her mother, jumping from a balcony was not on her mind. She had a solution, she had a plan with help from her trainer, she was going to get away from the abusive relationship she was in and be with her family.

I think her "secret" was her eating disorder.

I know this is completely off topic, but.....I love your avatar Malaneuh!! Fabulous!! :floorlaugh:

And it brings a bit of welcome light relief amongst the very distressing things we are discussing here about this terrible case.......

I agree that this may have been the case.

But I don't see that as a valid reason/excuse for SG to be monitoring her texts! He is trying to justify his behaviour and back up his story. If he was concerned there were plenty of other things he could have done to help her. Monitoring her text messages, calls, emails etc does nothing to help an eating disorder. He is just trying to disguise his jealousy.

Thank you Isis.

Yeah, the secret.....

I hadn't even thought that it could be the eating disorder. I don't recall reading how long the supposed secret had been an issue to him. I had thought the 'secret' was that she was planning to leave him. Or in other words, after her death and the fact she was planning to leave him he decided to use that as "look, she was keeping a secret" as justification for monitoring her.

But basically I don't think a person like SG needs a reason. He treated her 'as if' she had a secret because he wanted to know every single thing about her to control her. If he is the kind of man I'm thinking he is, he saw her as an extension of himself and had to know every little detail to feel in control. Heck, if she bought a coffee and didn't tell him it was probably a 'secret'. I dunno, I'm just angry.

And yeah, it's hardly a justification for what he did. Occasional checking of a spouses phone is a recipe for trouble but I'd say it happens pretty often in even normal relationships. Actually, I was once in a totally dysfunctional relationship and checking his phone was what finally gave me the hard proof I needed to leave. But installing computer programs and pinhole cameras is obsessive, paranoid and abusive.

It really bugs me too. Of course, people should get on with their lives. But for goodness sake, this is just flaunting it and arrogant. Every time I see their pictures I think of Lisa's mum and that SG is showing no respect to Lisa's memory. The new girlfriend should make herself scarce.

Ha, third post in a row. Back on the secret and the reason she was leaving him. Isn't that another inconsistency? I though I had read that he found out she was leaving through his monitoring of her. Or was that what the prosecution alleges? But then he says they talked about it and decided she would leave the next day. I hope the prosecution has her emails and texts to prove she was planning to him.

"She didn't even have an opportunity to take off her handbag before you threw her from the balcony," Mr Tedeschi said."

"Gittany maintains Ms Harnum went over the balcony balustrade onto the awning beneath, before losing her footing, slipping and falling to the ground.

"You said nothing to police about this," Mr Tedeschi said."

BBM - Yes, "He had found the information online that she had tried to book the flights. She found some files on the computer which showed that he had been tracking her flights and her emails."

22 Oct, 2013

Mrs Harnum broke down in the witness stand as she spoke of a series of phone calls and text message exchanges with her daughter on the day before her death.

"She called me and said 'mummy, please come and get me," Mrs Harnum said of her daughter's request to come to Sydney from Canada.

"I said, 'how urgent is it? I can come down on August 6."'

The court heard that Mrs Harnum booked her flight, and her daughter then booked a one-way ticket back to Canada.

But Mr Gittany allegedly found out about the plan and became incensed.

"She called me back and said that Simon had found out she was trying to book my flight to come down," Mrs Harnum said.

"He had found the information online that she had tried to book the flights. She found some files on the computer which showed that he had been tracking her flights and her emails. She was very upset.

Pretty happy for a man on trial for murder. And, as always, she is sneaking a peek to make sure she is being photographed!
