From the 7 News Article …

Massingham on Tuesday said police have “strong evidence” a body, believed to be that of Trotter, was found in a general waste wheelie bin on Maryvale St near where she lives on March 28.

Massingham would not comment on Trotter’s injuries and said her remains are yet to be found, with police working to locate her body after the bin was emptied later that day.

Massingham said the bin was collected by a rubbish truck later that morning, per the usual schedule, and was taken to the Nudgee Waste Transfer Station, where the rubbish was dropped into a pit.

“An additional 22 trucks also visited the site on that Tuesday,” he said.

The loads from each of those trucks was compressed and then was taken away from the facility in six B-double semi-trailers.”

The rubbish was then taken to two dump sites in Rosedale and Swanbank,
which have both been quarantined over the weekend, he added.

So somebody knew there was a body in a bin and didn’t report it and let it be collected by the garbage truck????

That is what it sounds like .. which is just horrendous !

It sounds as though they have always had her body
No they haven’t found her actual body yet …… but they knew where her body had ended up ….. so sad … and no wonder her family was reported as being “traumatised” …

Massingham said it was important the discovery of Trotter’s body was kept quiet over the weekend as police conducted interviews. However, he said police have no suspects at this stage.

Snip

Massingham said once Trotter’s body is found, it will be forensically examined to “try find any piece of evidence” to assist with determining her cause of death.

“Due to the positioning of the body, I can't rule out foul play at this stage," Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said.”

Yeah how do they know the position if they havnt located her yet?

Very strange wording isn’t it.

I was about to post my idea about the positioning of the body.

Experts can tell from blood patterns which way a body was positioned.

Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) is the interpretation of bloodstains at a crime scene in order to recreate the actions that caused the bloodshed. Analysts examine the size, shape, distribution and location of the bloodstains to form opinions about what did or did not happen.

BPA uses principles of biology (behavior of blood), physics (cohesion, capillary action and velocity) and mathematics (geometry, distance, and angle) to assist investigators in answering questions such as:

  • Where did the blood come from?
  • What caused the wounds?
  • From what direction was the victim wounded?
  • How were the victim(s) and perpetrator(s) positioned?
  • What movements were made after the bloodshed?
  • How many potential perpetrators were present?
  • Does the bloodstain evidence support or refute witness statements

“Due to the positioning of the body, I can't rule out foul play at this stage," Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said.”

Yeah how do they know the position if they havnt located her yet?

Very strange wording isn’t it.
Yes it is strange wording indeed…..

They are also saying her body was located in general rubbish bin on Maryvale Street …. That was later collected by the garbage truck …

Detectives are also working to piece together a pattern of the people who drive Maryvale St, particularly on a Tuesday morning.

Ok the bike is missing and they are looking for drivers patterns.. maybe they’re looking for who hasn’t driven back down it since they hit her on her bike or something?

I mean as annoying as the recycling thing is it’s crazy to be killed for. Maybe someone did hit her riding her bike and put her in the bin and took the bike?

And they also found blood in her unit ….. as well as the neighbouring bin site ….

Massingham earlier said forensic samples — reportedly including blood — were taken from Trotter’s unit complex and a neighbouring unit complex.

“The relevance of those examinations are not yet clear and may be unrelated to this matter,” he clarified on Tuesday.

It does make you wonder why they bothered with the search ??? And not treated as suspicious straight away ?? IMO

Oh I never thought of that, I thought she only did the bins nearby to her.
Maybe she did use the bike to be able to check more bins.

Maybe she was assualted outside her unit or the next block then came back home and someone followed her and...

Massingham said it was important the theory of Trotter’s body was kept quiet over the weekend as police conducted interviews. However, he said police have no suspects at this stage.

Police are planning an extensive search to recover Trotter’s remains this week, with detectives expecting it to be a “difficult operation”.

Police will mount a large-scale search of two rubbish tips for missing retired school teacher Lesley Trotter after confirming her body was collected from a wheelie bin.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham confirmed Ms Trotter’s body was in a rubbish bin on Maryvale St, Toowong, and was collected on Tuesday, March 28, during the weekly collection.

“Ongoing investigations can reveal that on the morning of Tuesday, the 28th of March this year, the body of a female we believe was Lesley Trotter was located in a general waste wheelie bin,” he said.
“It was evident she was deceased. Due to the positioning of the body, we can’t rule out foul play.

“Later that morning that bin was collected by a rubbish truck.”
Superintendent Massingham said the bin carrying Ms Trotter’s body was collected by a rubbish truck before the entire load was dropped into a pit at the Nudgee transfer station

He said 22 more loads were then dropped on top at a waste facility.

The waste was then compressed, and transported away in six trailers.

These trailers were then taken to both Rochedale and Swanbank waste facilities.

The rubbish was quarantined at the weekend and police will begin a manual search for her remains.
Superintendent Massingham said it was a “disturbing development” which would mean a “piece-by-piece” search of the general waste.
“These types of searches are not uncommon, but I think the scale of this one will make it quite complex for us.
“It will require a combination of resources… to ensure we leave no stone unturned.”
Superintendent Massingham said he couldn’t provide specifics about the injuries Ms Trotter sustained or the position her body was in while in the bin.
He said there was limited CCTV footage in the street.
Superintendent Massingham did not reveal how police knew Ms Trotter’s body was in the wheelie bin and picked up by the rubbish truck, saying only they had “strong evidence to suggest that”.

“Evidence that I’m very confident in as being accurate,” he said.

The rubbish truck has also been seized by police.

He said the primary focus in the coming weeks would be to find Ms Trotter’s body and try to determine a cause of death.

Superintendent Massingham said Ms Trotter’s family was distraught.

“This is traumatic to them, I think this is confronting for them... it’s a very sad story.”

Police first revealed they had evidence confirming the missing 78-year-old was dead on Friday, with homicide detectives now working on the case.

Ms Trotter, a popular avid bushwalker and gym goer, was last in contact with her family at 11am on March 27.

She was reported missing by her brother the following day after family went to her Toowong unit and found the door unlocked and her mobile phone and wallet left behind.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said he expected the investigation into Ms Trotter’s death would be “lengthy and complex”.

He said police were not “ruling out” the possibility that her habit of going through people’s bins to find recyclable items was related to her death.

'Ongoing investigations can reveal that on the morning of Tuesday, the 28th of March this year, the body of a female we believe was Lesley Trotter was located in a general waste wheelie bin,' Det Supt Massingham told reporters.

'It was evident she was deceased. Due to the positioning of the body, we can't rule out foul play.

'Later that morning that bin was collected by a rubbish truck.'

The truck travelled to Nudgee Waste Transfer Station, where the rubbish was dropped into a pit.

An additional 22 trucks also visited the site on that Tuesday before the loads were compressed and taken away in six B-double semi-trailers.

The rubbish was transported to two dump sites in Rosedale and Swanbank, which have since been quarantined as police launch the extensive search to recover Trotter's remains, which is expected to be a difficult 'piece by piece' operation.

'These types of searches are not uncommon, but I think the scale of this one will make it quite complex for us,' Det Supt Massingham said.

'It will require a combination of resources… to ensure we leave no stone unturned.'
