He can argue he re-painted because people were harassing him as it matched the notice. But if they arrested him, they probably found more evidence. If it's really about the campsite, it's a shame considering how vast the area was.

Surely with that photo released recently his wife and kids would have known that was their car. Even close family members would have known.

All very strange. perhaps a tip-off was from a family member

The family may not have seen the story, or paid attention to it. I didn't see it until I was reading this thread for the first time in months.

The man that was arrested on Monday must have been very stressed out about this for a while. Hopefully he is fragile and cracks under the heavy interrogation from Police.

Imagine killing 2 people and having to put your head on a pillow every night. How could you sleep?

You would be jumpy whenever there was a knock on the front door or a Policeman or Police car went past.

I wonder if this person was following Social media about this case or sitting around a campfire having a beer and discussing this case with others? Maybe even becoming a member of Websleuths or similar platform and making comments?

I wonder if this happens, if an offender would be so brazen or just keep their head down?

The info about a blue Nissan 4WD was only published fairly recently. The police have kept it under their hat for a while.

If this man has family, they likely would only have had the opportunity to see public pics of (or hear about) the blue 4WD within the last few weeks.

imo

It's bizarre. I was expecting a really wild character, someone who spent their life in the Bush, not in permanent work, possibly up to something dubious that night that kicked it all off and who knew the high country like the back of his hand.

This is actually more insane.

I would not be surprised if a panel beater hadn't told of the paint job. It is very difficult to duco a car without lots of experience. It has to be baked.

This new Herald article says .... (paraphrasing)

A neighbour estimates that the 4WD colour was changed 'maybe 12 months ago'.
The neighbour said that the vehicle had needed a respray because the paint was faded and there were rust spots.
The neighbour said that GL seemed "very nice", but had only talked to him once as everyone around there stays pretty private.

There are photos uploaded to GL's FB of him on a camping trip to Lake Cobbler (about 65km from Wonnangatta).
He also took family camping trips to the Glenelg River and to Walhalla in regional Vic.
In January he posted video of travelling in a dark 4WD on Thompson River (West Gippsland).

He signed a "no parole for repeat offenders" petition in 2017 after the Bond St massacre.

A neighbour said that on Monday night there were 3 forensic vans, 2 undercover cars and a ute parked outside GL's home. They were there till about 11pm.

GL told another neighbour recently that he (GL) does not drink alcohol as he has a heart problem, and is waiting to be cleared so he can start flying again.

Another neighbour says that GL has children that go to the same school as his children. (Poor kids having to deal with this)
Neighbour said that GL clearly has a love of the outdoors, and hunting and fishing.

Had a gander over at his Linkedin profile, bloke’s been on good coin for many long years. And a Check Captain for the last 14yrs, aren’t they above a regular Captain? If he hadn’t been able to pay off a nice place on a few acres in a good area by now, something’s weird. With Jobkeeper and being able to dip into Super, he still shouldn’t have had a problem.
That’s correct they are above a Captain…..Checkers ensure standards are met and Pilots are not signed off by the checkers until they meet compliance. I’ve seen this guy on the staff bus many times. He used to fly for Qatar Airlines for around 5 years.

Won't there be a media circus if he gets released without being charged! Also, should he be granted bail if he gets charged but the case is entirely circumstantial?

If I am charged with an offence will I get bail? (findlaw.com.au)

Just thinking out loud - there could still be a long way to go with this one. He seems to have been arrested 40+ hours ago and still not charged from what we can see?

Most cases are purely circumstantial. Only reliable eye witness accounts are not.

Is it still 3 days they can hold someone before they need to charge them?

Yeah I was thinking imagine if his Missus was into crime shows and following this story, making him sit through all the shows about it, and talking his ear off about it.
