In the ongoing search for the suspects, RCMP officers have started to canvass every home in Gillam & Fox Lake Cree Nation. In addition to the canvass, they are also thoroughly searching every abandoned home in the area – over 100 cleared so far. #rcmpmb

Bear Clan Patrol to act as 'ambassadors' as Mounties hunt fugitives near Gillam, Man.

Favel said his group was responding to a request issued Friday by Sheldon Kent, acting grand chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs
"The [acting] grand chief called yesterday to ask if we could send some teams to provide security for some of the First Nations that don't have RCMP service," Favel said.

Right on! I was wondering when they would invite Aboriginals in for security for the First Nations People. There are a lot of places that don’t have RCMP to rely on at least not very quickly.

The Bear Clan is awesome!

If they are out there though, staying alive and in hiding would also be an insurmountable task!
I agree with you, although the prospect of KM and BS quietly dying of starvation/the elements/etc. in an unknown location would leave those in the region (and the country) still afraid, wondering when they'd feel safe again... Better to find them, if possible...

RE their survival in wilderness

I dont think anyone thinks of these kids as serious survivalists, and as many have noted over and over the challenges would be considerable if not insurmountable.
That said a few articles have noted its a bumper year for rabbits, a local cant walk into his yard "without making jam" because of how plentiful the berries are.
Didnt feel the need to post cuz was just kindof experts pontificating, but they might not have that hard time finding food, and may have brought some otherwise.

I can go a few days in my apartment forgetting to eat, I feel 2 teen boys could go a few days on berries and adrenaline.

Thats just food though and the other challenges, particularly the insects seem pretty serious.

personally I dont think they are hiding out in the bush, seems likely they left the area in some way or another. Likely their hitching scheme or something similar. just moo

Absolutely agreed. I hope they are found one way or another for the families of the innocent good people that have been murdered, and so that all Canadian people can rest easy again and not have to be worried that these two could pop up anywhere at anytime.

Both the Environment Canada forecast for Gillam, and the specialised Terminal Area Forecast (TAF) for Gillam airport are forecasting thunderstorms for tonight and tomorrow morning.

The current TAF was issued 2.5 hours ago and I’ll update it when a new one is issued.

can you get me a Skew-T for the area at all? so i can check what type of thunderstorms might happen?

Teenage guys are usually ravenous though, and these two are tall, big guys.. I can't see them doing too well if they're without a decent food supply and among everything else, like the insects you mention. If they are out in the bush anyways. I agree with you that its seeming more and more likely that they somehow left the area before they could be detected out there. Time will tell. Now that military is out there, hopefully we'll get some answers or new info sooner than later

The military's air support for the RMCP has landed in Gillam, Man., to help police with the massive hunt for the two B.C. homicide suspects. (Angela Johnston/CBC)

"The Department of National Defence confirmed in a written statement that a Royal Canadian Air Force CC-130H Hercules aircraft from 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron in Winnipeg will assist with an aerial search.

The statement said an RCMP officer will be on board the aircraft to direct the search and said this remains an RCMP-led effort, with the Royal Canadian Air Force in a support role. The RCMP will determine the area for the air search."

The public across the country has been urged to keep a careful watch out for the pair.

Edit: Big thanks to mods for removing that!

Hey so is "later this afternoon" the best we have for time of this big news does anyone know?
Also what does "afternoon" mean in canada? some parts of can getting to what id call evening. And also what time zone is that going off of I wonder?
Most likely it would be central time.

Just a thought...I wonder if any of the locals who may have some inside info may be a bit more willing to talk to the Bear Clan than the RCMP?
To be honest, wouldnt be totally surprised if thats part of the reason they are going. Not hard to read that into the article (but I guess you could read alot thats not there into it). But I mean, RCMP and FN have.... a rocky history lets say, and if you follow the news, tension remains high. Dont want to get too far off topic as one of my posts down this vein was already removed (no hard feelings; was tangential, just good moderation that!), So I guess I'll just restate I wouldnt be surprised if that was in mind in the invitation.

possibly related:
someone "not friendly to police" doesn't necessarily mean a criminal or someone hiding anything

Manitoba RCMP say there have been no new sightings of Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky and no new information that would indicate that the suspects have fled the area.

Sad to hear they still have not found them. I can see why they may consider them still hiding out where last seen.

Hope they can be found soon one way or another.

Yall ever get the feeling that somewhere in a cheap motel room outside Winnipeg, that these two young killers, just might be sitting up in beds, eating pizza, and laughing at all this hardware and manpower up near Gillam ?....moo

This makes sense, but it’s impossible to say where this source got his information from, and how much is his own speculation.

Two Canadian teens who are suspected of at least three murders – including an American woman and her Australian boyfriend – may have escaped from the Manitoba town where they were last seen "with someone who is not police friendly," a source close to the investigation told Fox News on Saturday.

The source added that Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky may have altered their appearances and offered cash to a driver to leave the area of Gillam, a town of approximately 1,200 people in the north of the province.

“Truly you wouldn’t want to stick yourself in a small town when all of Canada is looking for you,” the source said. “If they left Gillam, they’d likely head to a bigger center where they’d blend in and could find food.”

Canada murder suspects may have eluded cops with 'someone who is not police friendly,' source says

I like how their "source" is giving intel on things that were announced in a press conference. Their source is one of their own reporters. He/she stood close to police officer. MOO.

I am feeling it is more and more likely that they are IN the area, because there have been no sightings anywhere else. The news, the papers and the web are just saturated with these guys' pictures. It's not like the could get a lift with someone "just passing through" because they are on a dead end highway. There's basically just local traffic. If they are bushwhacking they are not going to make fast progress.
