No I have not had any luck , just found this
Maybe this is why his name is coming up as Col. David Russ Williams

Asked in an interview what he liked to photograph, Williams fumbled a little before responding with a laugh that he had many pictures of his car, including one he kept on his Blackberry. He said he also enjoyed photographing nature scenes.

LOL I was just going to post that, "David" Russell Williams. But I still haven't had any luck. Not sure he ever lived in Gatineau as the course was only 6 months & it was a short commute & according to neighbors one said they lived in Orleans 12 years, another one said 13. Why hasn't the press tried to talk to his family? Who & where are these people?

My cat Snowball and I fumbled a little before responding with a laugh that we feel nauseous.

Okay, how about Orleans, and nearby Cumberland. Are these areas popular living places with the military, especially Lt-Colonels?

Ottawa home focus of search

Investigators to begin hunt for 'trophies' tied to rapes and murders

According to the warrant, OPP were searching for computer digital storage devices, a black La Senza bra, a purple La Senza bra, thong underwear with the image of a poodle, two baby blankets, pornographic photos and videos, white shoes and plastic ties, among other items.

I have no idea, just the Williams lived in Orleans for 12-13 years.

There is a Russell Williams that used to be involved with Liberal politics in Quebec, he is now president I believe of a medical or pharmaceutical company in Ontario. I was wondering if this could be his father, couldn't get any confirmation & the older man has a full set of hair lol, so not sure at all.

The wife is in seclusion. Neighbours had nice things to say about her, not much about him other than they are shocked.

IMO the VS case was mentioned as it was the same detetive that was interviewing RW that discovered VS's remains.

The key officer in the room was Detective-Sergeant Jim Smith, who last year had obtained a statement in the abduction and murder of eight-year-old Tori Stafford of Woodstock, Ont., last summer.

Doesn't anyone else read that as Jim Smith is good at getting people to talk? He's Behavioural Sciences unit or something isn't he?

I thought the LE that found Tori was Jim Smythe... different spelling.

If the statement and finding Tori LE are the same guy, that tells me he knew exactly what to look for (the silos, #6, large tree, laneway, house across the road) and didn't give up the search.

Does anyone know if Lt-Colonels from the air force and the army would ever get together, perhaps to discuss joint missions? What are the chances that two such people living in the same area of the National Capital might have rubbed shoulders?

I makes sense to me that they would, and perhaps socialize. Not sure who you are talking about? I could do some digging.

Here it is, from the horse's mouth:

Strangely enough, common names are frequently misspelled. There was a lot of name confusion in the Tori Stafford case.

I think the spelling was incorrect for Det. Jim Smyth in the recent Globe and Mail article. Jim Smyth is OPP and also teaches at Seneca College's Police Studies courses such as "Forensic Interviewing" and "Forensic Behavioural Science"

I thought that Smyth claimed that he went on gut instinct to find Tori's remains and this article is suggesting that he may have received a statement regarding her location. As someone earlier suggested: why not just write that Smith (Smyth) helped discover the location of Tori's remains? Instead there is a mention of a "statement". I don't think this "statement" is related to RW's statement to him r.e. admissions to his crimes.

I'm very curious to find out what Blatchford meant by this.

Last Thursday, police set up the equivalent of a RIDE-program spot check, hoping to match the distinctive tire tracks to a vehicle. Col. Williams was pulled over, and his tires matched with the sample from the crime scene. The discovery prompted police to obtain search warrants to investigate Col. Williams’ two homes in Ottawa and Tweed.

I'm trying to figure out what could be so distinctive about tire treads that would give probable cause for a search warrant. I want to know what tires they were. Maybe they had already researched which tires the treads match up to and knew that only x amount were imported/sold in that area or in Ontario or even in all of Canada. Hmm. I thought the search warrants came after his confession too. I'm a bit confused now.

We need to be very careful not to try to pin every single unsolved murder on this man.

I have worked for him, and spoke to him on a daily basis - no one is in more shock than I am with the exception of his wife. I just don't want to believe it, but I think I'm going to have to.

He was polite, personable, always a smile and a good morning. Unbelievable. :(

Williams is a pilot. Would he rub shoulders with army LCol's? Probably. But the majority of his time would be spent with aircrew.

He did have information. TLM helped LE search for Tori. She told them exactly what to look for. The 2 big silos at the corner, a laneway with a house right across the road, big round tree with a rock pile under it at the top of the laneway. She knew the road was a #6, and they had exhausted their searches of HWY #6, Sideroad #6, Concession #6. They had been looking within a certain distance and had decided to expand the search. He was looking outside that limit to see if he could find anything that coincided with the information she had given them. Information she gave in a statement that he was probably involved in getting from her.

You are right and the article is misleading.

  • RW was stopped on Hwy. 37 last Thursday,
  • He was interviewed, arrested and confessed on Sunday in Ottawa.
  • He led them to the body on Monday morning.
  • LE began searching the Tweed residence on Monday and the Ottawa home on Tuesday.
"Williams was stopped by police on Feb. 4 during canvassing of motorists driving along that highway."

http://www.thestar.com/news/ontario/article/763130--colonel-s-arrest-reopens-cold-cases

"On Monday morning, police searched their second home in Tweed."

"As of 3 p.m. Monday, OPP officers were parked outside a home that Williams and his wife own in Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood, waiting for a search warrant that would allow them to enter."

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/02/08/belleville-jessica-lloyd-dead-missing.html

"They searched the house Tuesday after the weekend arrest of Col. Russell Williams ... "

I believe that this is the correct sequence of events.

If any poster is a family member, friend, LE, etc, you must contact WS's owner, Tricia Griffith, at tgrif@xmission.com before you post so she can verify your identity. This is to protect this thread and forum from having imposters come on and post "facts" about the case.

Thanks,
