Please keep my daughter in your prayers? She flew out of LAX this AM, and is currently on layover in SAC. She's smart, and thorough and assures me she is doing everything in her power to mitigate becoming infected. But still. :-(

I wonder what will happen in Vegas? Will they be forced to shut the casinos? I know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but I don’t think so with novel Corona.
I’ve been reading various Vegas twitter feeds since returning from my first trip there last October.
They are all poopooing the virus.......tales of no flinches when the fire alarm goes off....etc.

“The new coronavirus that began as a handful of infections in central China has rapidly become a worldwide outbreak, shutting down entire cities, threatening the health of thousands and testing the strength of the global economy.

More than 121,000 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide across more than 100 countries and regions, and more than 4,000 people have died as of Wednesday morning, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

As the rate of new cases in China continues to decline, more and more cases are being confirmed in Italy and Iran. In the U.S., the death toll is creeping upward as new cases are cropping up across the nation.

“There are at least 1,040 confirmed cases in the U.S., according to Johns Hopkins. Officials warn that many more people are likely infected. At least eight people in the U.S. have recovered. Of the confirmed cases, some are travel-related, some have spread person-to-person, and some were repatriated to the U.S. from Wuhan, China, and the Diamond Princess cruise ship.“

Good day everyone. Glad we have this thread. I was just reading about them recommending people with the virus stay away from animals/pets. I would have to go stay elsewhere while my husband takes care of our seven cats, four of which have special medical needs. That would be even more depressing than self-isolation.

If I were you, I'd try to have a heart-to-heart with your coworker (from a safe distance lol) about the risk to children not only from COVID but any cold/flu.

If they aren't amenable to the idea of staying home, I would talk to your supervisor about your (VERY justified) concern for the children's safety. If that doesn't work, perhaps get in touch with your local health dept.

Or...........you can always call in sick tomorrow.

Sigh to everything! I really wish more ppl prepared for this and that includes our government. I am tired of both parties fighting each other over it because it is not the time to do that. I also feel a little selfish that we have all the necessities at our home while others are just figuring out the devastation that will come in all aspects

I prepared for my family. I had less time than the government did and far less resources. Now I'm back to my original fears that no matter how much I prepped if we end up sick I or other family members will end up dead because the medical system is not prepared to handle this.

Italy extends lockdown measures

Italians are facing up to yet more stringent measures designed to combat the outbreak after learning on Monday they would be placed in lockdown conditions. The country’s prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, has now said shops – barring supermarkets, food stores and chemists – will be shut down, while companies must close all their departments that are not essential to production.

Services such as hairdressers and beauty parlours will also be closed, along with bars and restaurants that cannot guarantee they can keep a distance of at least one metre between customers. Referring to the daily bulletins announcing the number of new cases and deaths, Conte said:

We will only be able to see the effects of this great effort in a couple of weeks.

“We fully anticipate in the coming days, especially as we work hard to increase our testing capacity, that there will be more confirmed cases," Polis said. "We're going to get through this together, but the actions that we take in the few days and weeks will really determine the trajectory of coronavirus in Colorado."”

First case/s in my state of New Mexico today. Three confirmed. Two traveled in Egypt, one in New York. They all live north of me and are self- quarantined. One final trip to Walmart and I'm on lock-down.

Bishops issue new guidelines over attending mass, funerals, Confirmations

Vulnerable people and those with underlying health conditions have been asked not to attend mass, funerals or the celebration of confirmation.
...
Those attending funerals are also advised not to shake hands while sympathising.

(I cannot imagine an Irish funeral without copious hand-shaking - people queue up to shake hands with the bereaved family for hours - but I'm glad to see these guidelines issued.)
