HOLMDEL - A drive-thru coronavirus testing site at the PNC Bank Arts Center is set to open Monday, but just because the tents are going up doesn't mean it's ready for customers.

Gov Phil Murphy said the site would open at 8 a.m. Monday.

ALL TESTING DONE-FREE OF ANY INSURANCE CO-PAY

Demand for tests was high in Bergen County, with hundreds of cars lined up as people waited to be tested. By 12 p.m. Friday the site was closed for the day because maximum capacity had been reached, according to a tweet by the Englewood Police Department. Murphy said the site administered 600 tests on Friday; it will administer another 350 tests beginning 8 a.m. Saturday.

People who have no symptoms are not being tested at the site.

NHS doctors treating coronavirus patients are being forced to buy face masks from DIY stores and BUILDING SITES as one GP likened the lack of protective gear to soldiers inside Snatch Land Rovers in the Iraq war

NHS doctors treating coronavirus patients are being forced to buy face masks from DIY stores | Daily Mail Online

This is absolutely disgraceful. So much for the lies at the Prime Minister’s press conference today that NHS workers had enough personal protection equipment.
That's happening here. Hospitals are scouring paint stores, hardware stores, construction companies to find masks and protective suits.

That article mentions "When they fly they have a peak body temperature that mimics a fever," said Andrew Cunningham, Professor of Wildlife Epidemiology at the Zoological Society of London. "It happens at least twice a day with bats -- when they fly out to feed and then they return to roost. And so the pathogens that have evolved in bats have evolved to withstand these peaks of body temperature."

I'm not understanding, because they fly around all night feeding, why would their temp be higher only when they leave the roost to feed. Researcher says "at least" but still I don't understand, unless they were quite cool in the roost and generate a sudden burst of heat when they fly out at dusk, more than they would generate just flying/feeding. Anyway, because they do have the high temps twice a day, that means our own human fevers don't kill the virus.

Bat Flight and Zoonotic Viruses

"The high metabolic demands of bat flight increase result in core body temperatures that commonly reach the ranges of core temperatures typical of fever. High body temperature during flight have been demonstrated
in multiple species of bat within several families ...
and such high body temperature ranges increase the rate of multiple immune responses, including components of the innate and adaptive immune systems"

Coronavirus: Govt will cover 80% of pay for people unable to work

The government will pick up "most of" the wages of workers as the coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate many businesses , says Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

He said government grants would cover 80% of the salary of workers who are kept on by their employer but are unable to work.

The new coronavirus job retention scheme will cover wages up to £2,500 a month.

Great news (I think): DH's CoV19 test was negative! Whoohoo! Lots of kissin' going on in the Gardener home today. :D

Now I can go (carefully) search for food. We are out of all fresh produce and meat. We have been eating rice without butter for 2 days. All the stores that have curbside pick-up around me don't have any slots available until next week. I put in a small order for next week at one store as a back-up plan but I'm going to suit up with gloves, a mask, a headscarf, wrap-around sunglasses, a small supply of wipes and drive to the stores to check things out for myself. Any shopping tips? :)
Whew, I agree it's great news. No COVID 19, no flu, so you guys must have had a plain cold or allergy. Thanks for the update!

He did indeed have P. Vivax.

My point was that Chloroquine still has a place in the medical tool box.
Yes, it does, but for specific applications like the treatment of Plasmodium vivax malaria.

That's why it's really important to have infectious disease specialists, virologists, epidemiologists on the panel who can be rational about appropriate drug use and not make comment or promises that are unsound.

New Jersey reported 2 new deaths related to complications of the coronavirus Friday, bringing the total to 11, while the number of cases statewide soared to 890, with 155 new cases, Gov. Phil Murphy said.

Among the new deaths were a Bergen County man in his 50s and an Essex County man in his 30s.

Of the 11 deaths statewide, four have been associated with a long term care facility. And among the 11, nine have had underlying medical conditions.

Diabetes has been an underlying condition for many cases.

The number of coronavirus cases has been spiking through the week as testing for the virus ramps up. Murphy has said he expects the number of cases to reach into the several thousands. And testing demand among the public is high.

He said that he and the governors of neighboring states have been in talks with federal officials for more aid. Murphy said New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut need a combined $100 billion of direct cash assistance to help get through this emergency.

NYC

City Hall didn’t order COVID-19 supplies for NYC until March 6

<snip> City officials waited for over two months after the coronavirus outbreak first hit China to start emergency procurements of masks and hand sanitizer, putting in orders on March 6 and March 10, according to the city comptroller’s office.

<snip> It took the agency [Dept of Citywide Admin Servs] an average of 72 hours to complete an order, he said.

“We’d send them a list of products we can deliver within 24, 48 hours,” said the head of one of the medical supply companies...

...“For the private sector we’ve been selling and pushing product in the last four weeks and the city woke up two weeks ago,” the exec said.
