I need to take a 6 hour flight. We're wanting to move out of California. I don't care about drinking on a flight. But, I swear, We're probably going to buy a place via zoom.
I so hope this works out for you, Kali. I remember you saying a year ago maybe how much you wanted to leave where you are. Wishing you lots of luck and courage to make the move.

Not protests in Australia! Nooooooo….

Covid protests: Australia suffers its worst day of pandemic amid raging Delta variant outbreak - CNN

Tensions are high, with anti-lockdown protests breaking out on Saturday in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Brisbane, the capital of Queensland -- despite restrictions easing in parts of that state on Friday.
In Sydney, protesters turned up in the center of the city despite warnings from police, who set up check points to prevent people from gathering. In Melbourne, hundreds of unmasked protesters marched through the city before they confronted authorities. And in Brisbane, thousands gathered in the city's botanic gardens, although the state of Queensland recorded no local new cases on Saturday.

They like to do them with some 'regularity'.
Apparently, they have another one planned for next month already.
The police seem to be across the protestors online intelligence (or lack of it).

I feel sorry for the police. Having to deal with this crapola on a regular basis. They stifled the protest in Sydney, before it could start. And got tough on the Melbourne protestors this time ... pepper sprayed and dispersed them (ha! that'll teach them for not wearing req'd masks!)

I am sure the police are sick and tired of it. $5,000 fine for each identified attendee. Get enough fines, a warrant goes out, a warrant goes out and you spend some time in jail until you get it sorted.

.... anti-lockdown protests are not broadly supported by Australians. A late-July poll by market research firm Utting Research showed that only 7% of people support the demonstrations.

India's drug regulator has approved the world's first DNA vaccine against Covid-19 for emergency use.

The three-dose ZyCoV-D vaccine prevented symptomatic disease in 66% of those vaccinated, according to an interim study quoted by the vaccine maker Cadila Healthcare.

Previous DNA vaccines have worked well in animals but not humans.

Cadila Healthcare said it had conducted the largest clinical trial for the vaccine in India so far, involving 28,000 volunteers in more than 50 centres.

Like other vaccines, a DNA vaccine, once administered, teaches the body's immune system to fight the real virus.
ZyCoV-D uses plasmids or small rings of DNA, that contain genetic information, to deliver the jab between two layers of the skin.

The plasmids carry information to the cells to make the "spike protein", which the virus uses to latch on and enter human cells.

The key third phase of clinical trials was conducted at the peak of the deadly second wave of the virus. The vaccine maker believes this reaffirmed the jab's "efficacy against the mutant strains", especially the highly infectious Delta variant.

Cops brace for hundreds of diehard anti-lockdown protesters to flood Melbourne's CBD | Daily Mail Online

Violent scenes erupted during Melbourne's shameful anti-lockdown rally as more than 4,000 protesters clashed with police who were forced to use tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets on the growing crowd, as smaller protests in Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns threaten to wreak havoc on the eastern states.

The largest of the three 'freedom' rallies in Melbourne congregated on the corner of Elizabeth and Bourke street in the CBD on Saturday morning and escalated during the afternoon despite Premier Dan Andrews saying the state is on the verge of a Covid catastrophe.

The Melbourne protests continued for several hours and at times the emboldened protesters appeared to outnumber police, breaking through police barricades.

By late afternoon six officers has been hospitalised - including two with suspected broken noses, one with a broken thumb and the others with concussions - and 218 protesters arrested.

This is happening in my state, as of today. A little reminiscent of the yellow flags that people had to display in their window during the 1918 pandemic?

Police Commissioner Stevens (who is the head of our covid task force) ...... "Those returning South Australian residents who are currently required to quarantine at home will be able to still return to South Australia and quarantine at home," he said.

"However, they will be given a quarantine sign and be given a personal direction by an authorised officer to display that sign on the front of the premises they're quarantining at for the 14-day period."
Police will be undertaking "regular" compliance checks on people who are quarantining.

The Euro 2020 final was a "superspreader event" due to the level of COVID-19 infection in and around London's Wembley Stadium, according to government figures released Friday.

About 2,300 people "were likely to have been infectious at the time of the event," Public Health England found.

The data for the July 11 event showed a further 3,404 people in and around the stadium were potentially infected after the event and may have contracted the virus there.

While fans were required to take a coronavirus test to be allowed entry to Wembley, the system relied on them reporting whether the test was negative.

The British government had been criticized for allowing around 67,000 spectators into the stadium at the height of a fresh wave of infections, dominated by the highly contagious delta variant.

New Zealand considers splitting in TWO as the country records 21 cases | Daily Mail Online

Jacinda Ardern warned Kiwis that New Zealand's Indian delta outbreak of Covid-19 is about to surge after a jump in cases and that extreme restrictions including splitting the country in two would be considered.

New Zealand recorded 21 new community cases on Saturday - its highest number for a single day since April last year - as the entire country remains in a lockdown announced earlier this week.

The outbreak remains centred on Auckland where there are 45 active cases and 18 on Saturday but has spread south to the capital Wellington with six active cases and three on Saturday.

U.S. officials probe whether Moderna vaccine is linked to higher risk of uncommon side effect

Federal health officials are investigating emerging reports that the Moderna coronavirus vaccine may be associated with a higher risk of a heart condition called myocarditis in younger adults than previously believed. Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart.

One individual said the Canadian data, which was provided by that country's government, indicates that there might be a 2.5 times higher incidence of myocarditis in those who get Moderna compared with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The investigation, which involves the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is focusing on Canadian data that suggests the Moderna vaccine may carry a higher risk for young people than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, especially for males below the age of 30 or so.

A doctor on CNN this morning, did qualify this a bit. He said that ANY liklihood of myocarditis is still 40x higher with Covid than the vaccine.

The higher dose of Moderna is what could cause the myocarditis. He recommended that anyone older should want the Moderna because of the higher dose. If very young, try to get the lower dose Pfizer, if worried.

I’m just guessing here, but the mid-September roll out for boosters means those who got vaccinated during the first round of vaccines back in mid to late December will be 8 months out at that point. If they had said 6 months post-second shot for the booster, they would have a hot mess on their hands with all of those vaccinated in the initial 2 months of vaccine roll out between December and February becoming booster eligible all at once. It seems to me this is an attempt at staggering those who will be eligible for a booster so it doesn’t overwhelm the system.

Ah, yes, that makes total sense!

Police arrest 47 as anti-lockdown rally fails to attract large crowds

Almost 50 people were arrested in tense scenes in central Sydney on Saturday as police responded with force to an anti-lockdown protest that failed to match the scale of last month's large rally.

In Sydney, around 250 protesters reached the streets surrounding Victoria Park but were met by a large contingent of police - including the riot squad and mounted officers - who prevented any congregation in the public park.

Yep, Moderna uses 3x more mRNA than Pfizer. Because of that it probably has more side effects, but the higher dose appears to make the immunity last longer compared to Pfizer and be more effective against Delta variant.
It makes sense for younger males to then get Pfizer or J&J.
I am sticking with Moderna for my booster.

Vaccinated man dies in Florida, daughters share their anger and urge people to get vaccinated — The Hill

“A fully vaccinated man who resided in a Florida retirement home died from COVID-19. His daughters wrote an obituary urging people to get vaccinated and blame the state for his life ending.

Clark Allen died on July 22 after contracting a breakthrough case of COVID-19, a “one-in-a-million” chance, according to the man’s doctor.

The surviving daughters of Clark Allen, Danielle and Nicole Allen-Gentile, expressed their anger in an obituary about how their father could have been infected and said his death was preventable, The Washington Post reported.”

“During the pandemic, Clark Allen's two daughters — along with their five siblings — debated whether their father should be in an assisted living home in Florida or Connecticut. The daughters received a blunt message from a Connecticut home: “You need to get him out of Florida. He will die in Florida,” The Washington Post reports.

The daughters speculate that he contracted the virus from an unvaccinated person at Carlisle Palm Beach, an assisted living facility in Lantana, Fla. Allen reportedly took the virus very seriously, paying close attention to public health measures as he had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that could make a possible infection more severe, according to the Tampa Bay Times, which first shared the story.”

Was he in the assisted living or independent living area?

Was he taking meals in his room and not eating in the main dining room?

Did he wear a mask every time he left his room/apartment? Especially indoors around others?

Did only fully vaccinated people visit with him indoors?

Did he go to doctors and other appointments via a daughter or other relative? Or utilize the center’s bus?

I would think mixing unvaccinated and vaccinated in an independent living environment where people congregate indoors without masks is risky.

How do you know who is vaccinated and who isn’t? How do you keep a loved one safe under those conditions?
:(

I just read the Tampa Bay article.........I feel so heartbroken.

I just cannot believe the anxiety that any children of parents in senior living must be going through. Especially here in Florida.

TGA approves Sotrovimab for COVID treament, so what does it do?

The nation's medical regulator has approved a new drug for Australians with COVID-19, to stop the virus from worsening.

Earlier this month, the federal government bought an initial 7,700 doses of Sotrovimab, with the first shipment ready to be deployed from next week.

Sotrovimab is a new "monoclonal antibody therapy".

Clinical trials have shown it can reduce the risk of hospitalisation or death in adults with mild to moderate COVID-19, who are at risk of developing severe COVID-19.

Health Minister Greg Hunt on Friday said while vaccination was still the most important protection against the coronavirus, this therapy was a new way to treat coronavirus, and reduce hospitalisations.

City Hosting Rally In Alabama Declares COVID-19 Emergency

Cullman, Ala., on Thursday declared a COVID-19-related state of emergency ahead of a scheduled Alabama GOP rally featuring the former president on Saturday as Alabama struggles with a surge in new infections and a shortage of hospital beds.

The state of emergency declaration allows the city to provide additional resources for the rally, a request that was made by the chief operating office of Cullman Regional Medical Center, which is experiencing overcrowding amid a spike in coronavirus-related hospitalizations.

Alabama saw 3,890 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with a seven-day moving average of about 3,000 new infections, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Covid Data Tracker. Cullman Regional’s latest update on Wednesday showed that the hospital was treating 56 coronavirus patients, including 12 people who are on ventilators.

The Alabama Hospital Association also revealed on Wednesday that the state has run out of intensive care unit beds, reporting a 29-bed deficit.

I got an email this morning that I'm eligible for the booster with my local University hospital that I see my specialists at. It only had a special clinic tomorrow though you had to make appointments with. Not a ton of openings for one day.

As I'm only 4 months out from my 2nd shot and I know others are in greater medical need right now I decided to pass. But I hope they will offer this again soon so I don't need to wait for a booster 8 months out. Any ideas on when it's most ideal to get it?

I had thought it was 6 months so no idea why the govt decided to offer it at 8 mo for everyone else. Is 6 mo still when things have dropped considerably or is there some more info on 8 months out?

Which vaccine did you get? The higher dose Moderna seems to be effective longer.. However, I don't think they have the infrastructure to differentiate for offering the third dose.

I would think, given you are only 4 months out, that you have a few months of less concern... I personally feel the boosters will be readily available by then.

So, our state of Qld has their outbreak under control now. They are carefully monitoring their state border.
(There are massive lines of cars waiting to try to enter Qld. Some people wait 4, 5, 6 hours in line - then get turned away once they get to the checkpoints.)

At first, their monitoring was to prevent people from hotspots from entering.
This morning we are hearing that they are now asking for proof of vaccination, for any essential workers trying to enter, at their state border. No vax, no entry.

Source: Ch7 morning TV news

They are also showing a photo on national TV of a 27 year old from NSW, who has tested positive, refuses to isolate, refuses to wear a mask, and is now evading police. They evidently mean business in finding this man.
(First time I have seen them do this, but considering the current concerns in NSW, I am not surprised.)

So is this the case at all State borders?? These huge waits. Or is it particular th Queensland for specific reasons? Like work, I guess.

Keep us informed of the Chase!!!!!

Seems like Americans in general are becoming more violent. I went to the doctor today and there was a sign up that said verbal abuse will not be tolerated and physical assault will be reported and prosecuted. Clearly, weird stuff has been happening more in doctor's offices.

that is just so sad..... wow.

I assume that vaccine hesitancy is related to a fear of the vaccine causing covid. I was worried about how sick the vaccine would make me even though I know it is not live virus. The second shot made me sick for 36 hours with fever, chills, aches and fatigue. Then I was fine. I expected it.

I'm curious what sort of side effects the third shot will have. The first shot was minor - nothing more than a typical vaccine-sore shoulder.

I think vaccine fear is based on nothing more than a refusal to accept that the best protection means hurting for a day. I completely agree that no one should feel lousy after a vaccine, but who hasn't had a child who felt lousy after vaccine? That's how it works, yet so many are too scared to experience vaccine side effects as adults. Even pets feel lousy after a vaccine.

It's much worse than that. Memes went around saying "research" showed that people who get the vaccines are going to start dying off in 2 years. The vaccines themselves are going to kill everyone who gets them. Of course naturally the prediction is well outside the timeline that anyone could have even had the vaccine to prove or disprove.

Others honest to God think it's some kind of Mark of the Beast and the views are apocalyptical.

I've seen people in comment threads saying they do not care if they die from Covid, at least they will have gone down fighting instead of giving in. Masks and vaccines are so political now that many of these people do not even care if they work or not. They don't care if they live or die or not. All they care about is fighting masks and vaccines and their "freedom" to be complete numpties who kill off their fellow man and themselves.

Then again I also read a discussion last night of where to buy ultra thin useless masks that only make you look like you are wearing a mask. And women bemoaning that people do not care about children at all since they want them in masks. They think others are being short sighted to the risks of masks long term and do not care about the children's health. Apparently Covid is far less risky than a piece of fabric over the mouth and nose.

It's like some kind of dystopian reality. These people are just waiting to get sent to the Walmart Fema camps. They view it as like pre WW2 and they need to fight off Nazis by not wearing a mask and protecting themselves from a communicable disease.
