Alabama congressmen say Trump indictment over 2020 election a politically motivated ‘sham’.

Members of Alabama’s congressional delegation said Tuesday’s indictment of former President Donald Trump over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election is a “sham” and a case of political retaliation.

“The latest sham indictment of President Trump proves that Biden’s DOJ is determined to try every avenue to punish his political enemies before the 2024 election. After three indictments, it’s beginning to feel like Groundhog Day,” tweeted Rep. Barry Moore, R-Enterprise.”

Some of former US President Donald Trump’s supporters will see his latest indictment as “politically motivated”, says former Republican deputy chief of staff Emma Doyle. “Even if people think they’re being unbiased in the way they’re timing this, I don’t think it’s actually possible to be when you are appointed by a Democratic administration and serve at the pleasure of the President,” Ms Doyle told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

Have you read the indictment?

The bottom of page 6 starts an interesting section about how many people in Trump's own administration told him there was no evidence of election fraud. Trump himself discarded the facts provided by various people of his own administration such as Trump's Vice President, senior leaders of the Justice Department appointed by Trump while Trump was in office, Director of National Intelligence while Trump was in office, Department of Homeland Security cyber division that Trump signed into law while he was in office (Trump fired the director when the director didn't go along with Trump's election lies), senior White House attorneys who served during Trump's time in office, senior staffers on his 2020 campaign...and it goes on.

All of those people were working in the Trump administration.

Trump knew the election was not rigged. Trump took action to overthrow a legitimate election.

Biden didn't "trump" up these charges.

Indictment can be found here: Read the full indictment against Trump for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election

How can it be political retaliation when Biden won the election? Biden is in office. What's the retaliation against - that he won?

Biden is running for president again and Trump is running for president again.

Don't you know that it's retaliation because Trump broke the law and they didn't just sweep it under the rug and pretend like it never happened (you know, like he did with his sexual assault of E Jean Carroll)

I don't think that a coup almost happened. Not even close.

We are now close to losing a lot if elections are manipulated by the justice system. JMO.

I'm not an American but the Grand Jury process is to ensure that the justice system is not manipulated by bad actors. It was written into the Constitution by the founders of your country to have exactly the opposite effect to which you refer. The founding fathers felt the British judicial system of a Grand Jury was created to have a buffer between the people and the monarchy and was the best approach to guarantee individual liberty.

For those who are not American or need a refresher on how Grand Juries operate here's a Cole's Notes version offered by a law firm from California. (Cole's Notes are the published condensed version of books for students in Canada). It's quite interesting.

This is about the 45th President of the United States trying to illegally overturn an election that did not end in his favor. He encouraged his fellow domestic terrorist supporters to pull a B & E on the nation's Capitol. They killed a cop. They hurt many others. They went in with zip ties to bind elected officials up so they could run through there and steal stuff. All of that happened because he told them to. Encouraged it and then watched it all go down while laughing. There is no disputing it. It's all public. My brain hurts watching people defend him when he does not deserve it.

Some are conveniently forgetting that there were investigations into the election process in several states and those investigations did not reveal any significant election interference. Biden DID win yet Trump continues to insist it isn't true. Elderly Trump is clearly showing signs of delusional, mental impairment.

To quote Carl Sagan...from many years ago:

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”

Yep, that's it in a nutshell. No one likes to go public and expose themselves as the mark. It's the reason a lot of women don't come forward to admit they've been bamboozled out of their life savings by some online charlatan who convinces them he marry them in a heartbeat if he just had the money to come to visit her.....

It's the same reason women who are in a violent relationships lie about their black eyes and bruised arms. They are ashamed but don't recognize it's fear that keeps them there.

I don't know how we got here. And I say 'we' because whether other nations like to believe they operate independently from the US, most of us are inextricably tied to the US because of trade deals, military support, etc.

I don't believe in Q-Anon's little phrase "Where We Go One, We Go All" but as it relates to dragging down the rest of the world if the US implodes, we are all in this together.

Trump's supporters were ready to hang Mike Pence. When all of this was going on, Trump was watching on TV. It took him hours to make a statement encouraging the insurrectionists to go home.

All of this is fact. Not opinion. Fact. We watched it live, on TV.

You mean like the Democrats who have objected to certifying Electoral College wins for the presidential elections of 2000, 2004, 2016?

In 2016 Democrats tried obstructing Trump from the electoral vote by claiming "Russian interference", "voter suppression" and went so far as to try convincing the American people that the Electoral College should interfere in the outcome of the election by refusing their constitutional duties to honor their states’ popular vote, and instead in insurrectionary fashion vote for Hillary Clinton.

The report on Russian interference during the 2016 election was a bipartisan report. It reiterated what Robert Mueller found in his investigation a year earlier.

We in other countries were absolutely horrified at what happened on Jan 6. :(

We think if it can happen in the US, it could happen in our own country.

We want the people who did the vile, illegal and violent things in trying to overturn the elected government to be held accountable for their actions.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on Tuesday announced he’s suing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and filing a new Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) records request for more details about the recent indictments of former President Trump.

“My aim in bringing this lawsuit is to finally deliver accountability and transparency: what did Biden and his cronies tell [Attorney General Merrick] Garland and what did Garland and the deep-staters who put him in as Attorney General tell [special counsel] Jack Smith,” Ramaswamy said in a statement shared by his campaign.

Oh boy.
