In listening to the Chicago PD scanner, the dispatchers keep talking about tickets, meaning a typed form of what has happened? But I am dumbfounded it took a cop 12 1/2 minutes to get there. Yes, the caller was calm but way too calm in my mind! And the call taker was typing like he was typing novel!!

So next time you call 911,.(hopefully you'll never have too), you make it sound URGENT!

Also, I'm wonderng about the Tallahassee Police. Dept. They came under fire for the rape investigation involving Jameis Winston .

Wow, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital is 1-1.5 miles away from Dan's house. I wonder if he could have been saved.

Reward raised again

"Investigators did not say at first where in his home Markel was found.

During the 911 call, the neighbour expressed concerns about burglaries in the area, but police have said the shooting was premeditated, not a random act.

A reward of $10,000 — up from $1,000 and then $3,000 — has been offered for any information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (850) 574-TIPS or the dedicated tip line for the case at (850) 891-4462"

I just had to remove a number of posts.

We do not sleuth family members, ex's, relationships, friends who are not named by LE as suspects in this case.

According to that article, the commenter was called atheistATLlawyer. The paper speculated this meant the commenter was from Atlanta. But as one who hangs out on law blogs might know, ATL also refers to Above the Law," a very popular legal gossip blog that often has posts about the foundering job market and is critical of law schools' blithe response to this issue.

I've been reading over the posts that atheistAtlLawyer has made and I'm pretty sure that he is from Georgia (or at least he was at the time he made these posts).

In the below post by AtheistAtlLawyer it sounds like he's admitting to living in the state of Georgia.

It's very easy frankly. Each state has their own procedures. In Georgia you can fill out your application online and a social worker will call you and ask you a few questions.

My questions were something like this, " So....you're a lawyer with your own law office?"

"Uh huh...I make about $1100 a month after expenses"

"Your EBT (food stamp card) will be mailed to you within 7 days."

So now I have a cute little food stamp debit card that is refilled with 100 big balling dollars every month. I go to wal-mart and buy apples and stuff. This country is so AWESOME!

The comment that has been quoted in the news about him making comments to Dan are in this blog post - http://insidethelawschoolscam.blogspot.com/2012/01/censoring-ourselves-legal-academia-and.html

Dan,

You're worried about your home and private life being a target?

What about your graduate's homes and private lives? (Or lack thereof?)

You know, in addition to being law school graduates, the class of 2010 are, collectively, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, brothers, and sisters.

AND? YOU'VE RUINED THEIR LIVES YOU FOOL.

So yes, "all means necessary" are important to shutting people like YOU down.

Law school scammer.

Signed,

Here are a few more links to blog posts that he posted on..... sounds to me like this guy is crazy!

"It took paramedics 19 minutes to reach the Florida State University professor who was fatally shot outside his home after a misunderstanding on the 911 call, it has emerged.

Dan Markel, 41, was shot as he drove his car to his garage in Tallahassee on Friday July 18. The gunman - who has still not been identified - shot once through the car window, striking him in the jaw.

A neighbor noticed the car on the driveway and, concerned about a recent spate of break-ins in the area, decided to check it out. After discovering the professor in a pool of blood, he called 911.

'He's inside [the car],' he said. 'I don't know if somebody tried to shoot him or if he shot himself or what. I don't know... You need to send an ambulance in a hurry. He's still alive. He’s moving.'

Ironically, Mr Markel's death may help make changes for the future well-being of others, imo.

"You need to send an ambulance in a hurry, an EMT,” the neighbor said, according to audio of the call released by police Thursday. “I think you need to hurry.”

Because the dispatcher didn’t initially hear the caller mention anything about a gunshot wound, the response was delayed.

“The officer is going to be there first. [The EMT] is not going to come until we figure out what’s going on, but they are on the way as well, OK?” the dispatcher said.

“They better be if this guy’s got a shot…living,” the neighbor responded.

Markel died at the hospital 14 hours later.

Timothy Lee, the head of the dispatch center, acknowledged to ABC News that confusion contributed to the slowed response.

“On the onset of the call, it was entered into the computer system as a man down versus a gunshot wound,” Lee said. “We are making changes in this review to make sure that this atmosphere doesn’t happen again.”

I am really sorry because I bet this has been covered already, but the neighbor who called said he saw the car in the driveway and that is what got him to check it out. Did he not hear the shot?

@cavvy - there are a whole bunch of these angry type posters on the law blogs and such. It is a group of very unhappy law school grads/undergrads that show up posting on the same various blogs/sites.

It amazes me that they expect to find a high-paying job when they can't even debate an issue on the Internet rationally.

Markel's neighbor told police he heard a loud bang before seeing a vehicle drive away from his house.
When he went over to investigate, he found his neighbor inside his garage, in the driver's seat of his car, bleeding and in a daze. The driver's side window of the car had been bashed open, the report says.

The 911 caller said he saw the garage door of Markel's home open and thought he was going to pull out. When he didn't, the man, who was curious because of recent break-ins in the neighborhood, approached the car and found Markel.

Piecing together these articles, I'd say the gunshot (loud bang) got the neighbor's attention. When he went to the window, he saw a car driving away. He noticed then that Markel's garage door was open and expected DM to pull out. When that didn't happen, the neighbor became suspicious and went over to investigate. IMO

Haven't read all the pages so this may have been covered.
I find it slightly odd that the ex is terrified that her entire family might be targeted. The divorce was almost a year ago so she hadn't lived in that house for at least that amount of time. Don't know where children resided.
Might there be a possible anti-Semitic angle to this murder?

I totally agree. It was a stretch on my part, and upon reading your research, ATL must refer to Atlanta. There was another comment mentioned in that article, though, that referred to a law school as a TTT. In Above the Law commenter speak, that means Third Tier Toilet. These are law schools that live in the third tier of the US News law school rankings. Many charge expensive tuition to marginal students who then have little hope of finding gainful employment and paying off their non-dischargeable tuition debt. I only explain this to identify for those not familiar with the topic the source of what appears to be borderline nutso rage in some of these posts. Many of these students feel lied to and very abused.

I did too.

Dan Markel really did survive for quite a surprising amount of time, considering he was shot in the head. imo.
Wonder if the perp left the scene confident that the victim was deceased, or did they even care or worry, whether he lived or died? imo.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/fatally-shot-fsu-professor-waited-19-minutes-ambulance/story?id=24804375
"Markel died at the hospital 14 hours later."
That's why I don't think this was a contract killing, but was done by an "amateur" who held a personal grudge. IMO, the perp thought out the best plan to insure that DM could be killed with a single bullet so that he/she could quickly flee the scene without being detected. I wouldn't be surprised if the perp did a Google search on the most efficient way to commit murder without getting caught. I doubt that the perp thought about the possibility of Dan surviving.

Has it been released yet which EMS/EMT Svc responded to Dan Markel? Was it Leon EMS? I so, this could make for an interesting background investigation...

http://www.wctv.tv/home/headlines/S...ings-at-Leon-EMS-269462111.html?device=tablet

Earlier this week, we told you about a string of firings and resignations among medics with Leon County EMS.

Now, two of the paramedics who resigned have been arrested and accused of doing drugs with their children in the car.

Arrest papers say Soskis and Buckholz admitted to having a "drug problem."

Both Soskis and Buckholz resigned from Leon County EMS last week. EMS Chief Tom Quillin said neither departure was drug related.

Last week we broke the story of a paramedic - Justin Becraft - who was fired after supervisors say he overdosed on heroin while on the job.

EMS Chief Tom Quillin now confirms that another paramedic has been fired for failing to notify his boss about an off duty drug charge. Quillin says he has sent a termination letter to the medic, but has not received confirmation yet that he's received it.

System response

All 9-1-1 calls are received at the Tallahassee Consolidated Dispatch Agency[1] which operates as the center for all EMS systems using the Computerized Medical Priority Dispatch Protocol. That call is triaged for appropriate response and is handled by the EMS Controller, who dispatches the appropriate means of transport determined. EMS dispatchers also keep ambulances informed as they drive to the scene.

Sadly it seems that the beloved professor had three areas of contention that could be where his murderer stemmed from:
1. Hints of a lawsuit involving rabbis which equates to negative interactions with those of societal power in a community
2. A contentious divorce-still ongoing re: the family heirlooms (which may or may not imply other family members involvement if the split of the family heirlooms isn't to one's liking).
3. Students who are angry 'cause they think just by going to school that they are owed a living and a career. Spoiled and unstable.

Or... Something I keep thinking about is the shady things going on in the Tallahassee area involving officials. It seems as though Dan's line of law work & research (including teaching) deals with appropriate sentencing of criminals. Included in that line of work would be the purity of evidence...ie how its obtained, handled & stored, how it's prosecuted or even if its admissable, how to prove if its trumped up or not, or if its stacked, etc. With all the stuff going on in the last few years, and when considering Dan was a criminal law professor, I cannot see him ignoring any of this that's surrounding his area of expertise.
