Here's more details, which now it appears he was at the restaurant with his father, left and went to his mother's to try and drink cooking oil, then came back to the restaurant with his mother where his father subsequently grabbed him by the collar:
On Aug. 15, Austin Harrouff was out to dinner at Duffy’s Sports Grill in Jupiter with his father. Harrouff said his son left, went to his mother’s house and attempted to drink cooking oil. After, Harrouff said his son’s mother, Mina, brought him back to the restaurant. There, Harrouff said he became upset with his son and grabbed him by the collar.

Also his father is now saying schizophrenia runs in the family.

Now the story is starting to make sense. Not blaming but if my 19 year old tried to ingest cooking oil and was delusional. I would call 911 and get him help asap.

It sounds as if mom bundled him into a car, drove him back to restaurant , where he and dad had an argument and then he walked out. Here I would also panic as a parent, worrying that my child is going to hurt themselves. I would have been right behind him. Actually maybe they were. We are getting this in dribs and drabs. It's so tragic that this poor, random couple had to pay the price of this kids illness. I think now more than before that his steroid abuse, and withdrawal acerbated an underlying schizophrenia disorder.

That's for sure. One day this guy is acting maybe a little strange. Next day he is biting dead victim's face and abdomen as police is trying to pull him off. Even if he got a mental disease like schizophrenia one would think it was going to take some time to get to this point. As far as I can tell he wasn't even diagnosed with anything mental. He was obviously able to function pretty much normally, finishing school, attending college.

It could be a ruse. He might be a psychopath that followed The Causeway Cannibal story and thought he'd emulate it to get the most press for committing a horrific crime. I'm not sold that he is insane just quite yet.

Steroid use can unmask an underlying psychiatric disorder..

Have you ever dealt with a person on flakka though? The fact that he was in his underwear(from overheating), exhibiting cannibalistic tendencies, exhibiting super human strength, and drank a substance in the garage.. All sound like a person on flails to me. Just my 2 cents. I'm not saying he may not have had an underlying psychiatric issue.. I definitely think he may have.. But I also think this was drug induced.. That's all

Is it possible he went to take a steroid and someone dosed him with flakka?
Or he took all kinds of street drugs.

Hi Ninj!

I did not follow intially, but at this point it is very confusing which is understandable IMO in the beginning , but gosh, at this point in time seems like mcuh is still boucing all over the place

Read lost link that his core body temp at admission was not high like normally seen with flaka or bath salts

Apparently they sell bath salts, all over the place, in gas stations, in poorer areas of FL

once again FL shines maybe the heat fries peoples brains leading to insanity??

I def think core is mental (obvioulsy!) but there has to be something else IMO

Bath salts:

The subjective effects of bath salts last approximately three to four hours, but the physical side effects, such as tachycardia and hypertension, can last six to eight hours

A 21-year-old man slashed his throat and ended his life with a gunshot to his head. An 11-year-old boy was found dead after hanging himself in his bedroom. A girl attacked her sleeping mother with a machete.
....

.....intended to be snorted, smoked or injected.

...., "bath salts" were being sold on the Internet and at gas stations, smoke shops and convenience stores under such street names as
"Blizzard," "Cloud Nine" and "Ocean Snow."

... typically found as white, light tan or brown powders, and are believed to contain psychoactive
MDPV functions as a dopamine-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, producing stimulatory effects on the central nervous system and cardiovascular system.....

Sympathomimetic reactions are similar to those caused by methamphetamine, ecstasy, and cocaine.

...... tachycardia, hypertension, euphoria, hallucinations, psychosis, paranoid delusions, agitation and diminished requirement for food and sleep......

.....the psychosis can cause extreme violent, combative and self-injurious behavior. The most profound side effects from large overdoses include seizure, rhabdomyolysis and renal failure.

.....hallucinations and psychotic behavior can be long-lasting, enduring even after the substance is eliminated from the body.....

Bath salts are thought to be highly addictive, even in small doses.

MDPV is undetectable with routine urine and blood drug tests. Tests that detect both MDPV and mephedrone can be costly, and the detection window is limited to approximately 48 to 72 hours.

Treatment of bath-salt users is symptomatic and supportive, generally involving fluid administration; benzodiazepines for chemical sedation; and physical restraints for severe combativeness, agitation .......

Reports to poison-control ............ increased from 303 in 2010 — when the drugs first surfaced — to 4,720 by August 31, 2011,

Bath salt hits hits sold at gas stations for $3-$5 is a problem. I'm shocked it's legal.

I really resent foreign factories for making Spice, Bath Salts, Flakka, Meow Meow, Artic Blast, and altered variations. I guess they are so addictive that there's no "just trying it once". Don't try it at all!

Why are they even legal in the first place?

Why do I keep reading that his friends told LE something different than what the father is saying? I almost feel like what his friends know is being suppressed now. Sounds like AH was arguing with his father constantly of late and that was setting him off more. Saying there's a known family history of mental illness only makes me question why they didn't get him to see a doctor sooner. JMO

Wade Harrouff told.... that unlike what his son's friends have told...

I wish flakka virtually disappeared.. I work in a very busy ER and we are still getting flakka patients. As a matter of fact I had two nurses who are on workers comp right now because they were attacked by a patient on flakka last month.

Agreed. Flakka is still on the streets.

I went back to his channel to try and get more a sense of him:

Some fonts would not change

His avatar if that is what it is called is about money

One channel consists of three videos of someone playing basketball, and a song that is basically about needing help - starts with some quote from the bible. "Who I Am" --- I am a flower quickly fading

One channel has four videos one about a horse getting run over and another about ripping off a baby ducks head - I did not click play.

One channel has no content.

One is completly off kilter. He pretends he is in a band and plays all the insturments in delusionial band. He starts the video with him pretending to be an annoucner bringing out this "band"

A song stay the night = "if you stay the night you can do what you want".

One channel he subscribed to was Psychologist. Life Coach. Author. Counselor. Criminologist. Alchemist. Educator. Researcher. VFX Artist. -- Gosh when I read this it reminded me of the Cosmos Killer dude! Struck as a padded resume!!

Do you have a link to the horse & baby duckling video? I couldn't find that one.
damn, that's disturbing.

I find it confusing that the ingesting something in the garage has no one reporting it directly, noone has they saw it, and noone has said at what time he was doing this- its just weird

If I saw someone drinking it I would be able to say he was drinking paint thinner after the two of them were on the floor or something

moo

It's possible no one saw him do it. That he did it prior the attack or the only witnesses are now dead. The neighbor may know but isn't talking to the media about it. I hope he has a security camera that caught the attack.

Still questioning why his mother after finding AH drinking cooking oil decided he needed to go to the restaurant to talk with the father who grabbed him by the collar. Just trying to understand all these different variations of the story. What happened was such a tragedy.

This is what his friends allegedly told LE:
It also conflicts with what Austin’s friends reportedly told the Marin County Sheriff.

“Nobody saw anything that made them think they should hold on to him and call fire rescue or call police. At the Duffy’s, he was processing information and acting appropriately. The compelling question is why in this world did we see this homicidal rage evidence itself?” Sheriff William Snyder with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said,"His friends said earlier in the day he acted somewhat distant, somewhat different, but that there was nothing extremely unusual about his behavior."
http://cbs12.com/news/local/father-...ns-organs-are-failing-from-chemical-poisoning
I think part of it may be Monday Morning Quarterbacking by the father where he recognizes his son's statements only in hindsight (like I think his 'suicidal' comments were about how he's got superpowers rather than slit-my-wrists type comments) and also the center of his rage may have been at his father where his friends and other family members family wouldn't see that side of him, especially if his father is a current substance abuser. I'd really like to know what the father did after the son left the restaurant.

That actually may have been the least strange he did, which some bodybuilders (which he was one) drink cooking oil for the calories, where the consensus among bodybuilders who use cooking oils seems to be to use olive oil. It would really help to know the context of him drinking the oil.

Dr. Harrouff also told CBS12, he does not believe the reports his son “ate anyone’s face. It’s only said by that Sheriff to make this a worldwide story, and it is a complete exaggeration.”

SMH. I am amazed the father would say that!

Remember discussing an article where the father's neighbor said AH had a handgun and shot and killed a bird in the neighbor's backyard, I think it was a few weeks ago? That seems like a violent act. That kind of thing really makes me nervous.

Here it is plus on the day of the murders, AH had been in a fight with his father in the driveway and then drove away:
A neighbor calls Austin’s behavior “odd”—telling us a week or two before the double murder, Austin was in his backyard firing a handgun—and he shot and killed a bird in the neighbor’s yard.

The day of the double murder, Austin was seen fighting with his father in the driveway, then speeding away.

Seems like the family should have been taking him to a hospital rather than out to dinner.

Definitely bad decision making on their part, it seems obvious he needed help.

BFD: That the father admits that mental illness runs in the family. I presume that's his side of the family rather than Austin's mom, as she seems completely clueless, not recognizing such obvious symptoms. But the father is putting on a balancing act here: He wants to claim his son is mentally ill to exonerate him and to rationalize the murders. Yet he does not want to go too far because then he would be asked why he didn't act, especially when mental illness runs in the family.

Why did a medical doctor, actually a board-certified DDS, not recognize telltale schizophrenic symptoms when they presented themselves in Austin? Perhaps he was about to act and he was rightly angry at his son. We'll never know but his son needed immediate pharmacological intervention. Delusions and hallucinations are very easily controlled by anti-psychotic medications. And once such patients experience the allaying of symptoms, they often realize that they are in fact delusional and psychotic. This self-awareness and realization are the reason why he should have been sent immediately to a licensed psychiatrist, who would have prescribed such medications. It's the realization of the pathology and their diseased states, which are very powerful and enlightening that encourages patients to keep taking their prescription medications.

agreed. The family won't be able to claim they didn't see that he was ill, and couldn't afford treatment either.
