Tuba and soulscape, I personally believe the police know who did this and they have their man in custody (just like with Nevaeh), but they need to be able to make this stick. I believe this is often the case. Knowing and proving are, unfortunately, NOT the same thing. Can any of the charts tell us if LE thinks they have their man?

Thompson said her anger burns bright.

“I’m mad that he, it, has three weeks more of life than what my 7-year-old got,” she said.

Thompson said she talks to Somer daily, sometimes out loud and sometimes silently.

"I wish I could just smell her, see her or touch her,” she said. “I tell her every day that I love her, how much I miss her and how sorry I am that somebody did this.”

It seemed no child was too young to be fingerprinted and photographed for identity kits no parent ever wants to use. Others shaken by the 7-year-old's disappearance and death handed out brochures and promised to try and tighten laws against those who prey on children.

Organizers are planning for the festival sponsored by Rockers Against Sexual Predators to become an annual event.

Diena's lawyer, Michael Freed, hinted at progress in the police probe, telling Rodriguez he's "optimistic," based on "the information (authorities have) provided (to him) that they have the person who did this under observation, maybe among other people. They're waiting for certain scientific evidence to come back from certain unique labs around the country. They're putting great resources in to this, and this is really the perfect time for anyone that knows who did this or for the person that did this to help heal the wound that he's caused, not only of this family and the community, but, in fact, the nation. So I think that's just a matter of time before this is resolved and justice is done."

Rodriguez then asked Diena if she's thought about reaching out to Lockhart, Davis' father, and Diena said she "actually would love to speak to Mr. Davis (Lockhart) and let him know that I know exactly what he's going through, and that I've got a shoulder for him to lean on, and I can't believe that a parent would ever be involved in hurting their own child (as authorities allege Antoinette Davis was)."

Somer Thompson Case Update
Posted: Wednesday, 18 November 2009 2:23PM
<snipped>
The investigation into the abduction and murder of Somer Thompson is ongoing and remains a large scale, multi-agency effort, according to Mary Justino with the Clay County Sheriff's Office Wedesday. Agents from the FBI, FDLE, U.S. Marshal Service, and NCIS remain assigned to their team locally and continue to reinforce our investigative efforts with their expertise and manpower.

"Waiting on lab results is part of this process," said Sheriff Rick Beseler. "The results can take weeks to return and cannot be rushed or hurried because this is information that will point us in the right direction and tell us where to go."

Sheriff Beseler commented that, with a case like this, information is unfolding slowly. He describes the case as being far from "cold". "This case is not a cold case...not by far," Beseler said. "This case remains hot with emerging leads and many pieces of evidence. Our team is very active and will remain so for weeks to come", said Beseler.

Bikers rode through one of three routes, stopping at several businesses to collect cards. The concept is the rider with the best hand at the end wins. Laura Evans organized the bike ride to help the Thompson family.

"It absolutely broke my heart. I get real emotional about it. I'm overwhelmed. This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened. I am just so, so thankful for the biker community," said Evans.

Somer's mother, Diena, also participated in the ride. All of the money raised will go into a trust fund for Diena's other children.

Parents and other people living around in Somer Thompson's Orange Park neighborhood are being more cautious than ever.
According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, they've seen an increase in the number of children reporting suspicious people and cars in their neighborhoods.

"I'm not surprised. I think people are being a lot more cautious," said Valler.

The principal at W.E. Cherry has volunteers stand at 11 different spots around the school and watch to make sure students get home safely.

It's just one of the many ways this community is banding together to keep Tina Valler and other parent's kids safe.

Volunteers from the school stand at 11 different spots around the neighborhood, watching as students walk home from school.

"We want our children and our community to be as safe as possible," said principal Angie Whidden. "That's our job."

The school is especially on high alert because earlier this week, a little girl told police that a strange man approached her outside her home and asked her if she needed a ride.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office says it happened at the Park on Blanding apartment complex, located on Blairmore Blvd.

The girl told police she walked away, but the man followed her in his car. A volunteer at one of the neighborhood posts saw the whole thing. The man has not been located.

I don't understand why LE is so quiet about this case.... Could you see a juvie somewhere on the charts?

I can't think why everything so hush hush on this case.. I would of thought something back from dna by now..

At least the family cleared.. I am just hoping and praying LE is not at a stand still and just don't know what happened and no evidence.. even though they stated different in the media earlier they are going to get the person who did this.

I wasn't worried really till just last couple days.. I just have a horrible feeling right now this won't be solved.. I hope I am so wrong. maybe I just am depressed for no new news on Little Somer Case....

I pray we hear something about an arrest of the killer very very soon...

why hasn't the family been cleared .. was anything seen like this in the charts for the family of somer??

thanks sorry to carry on like this but just so sad..

Life has moved on in Somer Thompson's neighborhood, but some things have changed.

Purple ribbons still hang on Somer's school, and Crime Stoppers signs, asking for new information, are everywhere. Somer's memorial, still in front of her Orange Park home, is smaller but the neighborhood has not forgotten the hunt for justice.

The Bellos have a few new rules and the kids said that's just fine with them. "I'm scared if I'm out front by myself, they might grab us," said 8-year-old Grace Bello, Cole's sister.

Grace and Cole's dad, Aaron Bello, said if his kids are outside, he is with them.

"I know the longer it goes on, the less likely we are gonna find out who did it," said Bello.

Police said they haven't lost hope. The case is far from being cold and detectives are still focused on finding Somer's killer.

4,474 leads in Somer Thompson investigation

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said Monday they have received 4,474 leads in the abduction and murder of Somer Thompson.

In a written release the sheriff's office says a large quantity of evidence remains and investigators are still waiting on test results to come back and are hopeful the results will point them in the right direction to find Somer's killer. They also say the time it is taking to get the results is not uncommon due to the amount of evidence submitted to the lab and the type of testing being conducted.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the investigative team, known as "Team Somer", is staying in communication with Somer's mother, Diena Thompson and her family, keeping them up to date on the work being done.

Agents from the FBI, FDLE, U.S. Marshal Service, and NCIS are continuing to help in the investigation with agents assigned to the team.

Somer Thompson case update from the Clay Sheriff's Office

Here is the Sheriff's Office statement, issued by spokeswoman Mary Justino:

"The latest leads/tips total is 4,474. A small portion of these remain open/active and are still being worked aggressively by the investigative team, or as we call it "Team Somer." There is a large quantity of evidence that remains at the lab and we are still waiting on test results to come back from these scientists.

"In regards to this evidence, we remain hopeful that results will point us in the right direction in regards to Somer's killer. A wait of this length is not completely uncommon due to the amount of evidence submitted to the lab and the type of testing being conducted.

"This investigation may now be described as focused and streamlined. Even with the paring down of calls/emails to our team regarding the case, there is still plenty for the detectives to work on while we wait for the lab to do its painstaking work.

"The supervisors on this case are also staying in communication with Diena Thompson and her family, keeping her up to date on the work being done.

"As with any case, we remain committed to not releasing any details about the case that would hamper our efforts to arrest the person responsible. We appreciate everyone's understanding and patience."

Fears for Somer Thompson’s safety expressed a year before her slaying
Story updated at 12:18 AM on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010
<snipped>
social worker at Somer Thompson’s school warned about the danger of the 7-year-old girl’s walks from school a year before a killer snatched her on her way home, state records show.

The unidentified worker told the Department of Children and Families that Somer and her three siblings got lost at least once walking from Grove Park Elementary School and were found in woods with a stranger. The worker indicated that Somer’s mother needed to pay more attention to the children’s safety and get them into day care at the school.

But a two-week probe by Children and Families concluded the allegation about the children getting lost and being found with a stranger had no basis. It also found Diena Thompson properly arranged for her children to be taken to and from school, about a mile away, and that it was acceptable for them to walk home when necessary. Day care was suggested to her as an option, but not a requirement.

The case was closed without any findings of wrongdoing, according to the records provided to the Times-Union last week.

The social worker called the agency’s abuse hot line on Oct. 9, 2008.

“There is overall concern for the safety and well-being of the children,” the investigator wrote, based on the social worker’s statement.

Thompson told the investigator she was unaware of her children ever getting lost in the woods or being found by a stranger. Somer and her older brother told the investigator they never got lost. Somer’s twin, Samuel, said he got lost once, but gave no details. Somer’s sister was never asked. Thompson said a family friend had been transporting the children and that would continue.

Thompson also told the investigator the school suggested the children attend an off-campus YWCA day-care program. But she said it ended before she could pick them up from work and she couldn’t afford the cost of picking them up late.

The investigator concludes that the “risk remains low” and that Thompson had been very cooperative.

“No services necessary at this time,” the report said.

Thompson said she is hopeful the public will not to use the report to criticize her parenting ability, a problem she had to endure from some people after Somer’s death.

“Walk a day in my shoes,” she said.
