Several Brazilian military ships, a French submarine, and two Dutch ships are currently searching the ocean bottom off Brazil for wreckage from Air France Flight 447, which plunged into the ocean on June 1st.

With the latest disaster, analysts have started questioning the safety record of the Airbus 330 and its computerised flight controls.

Search teams have recovered more than 400 pieces of debris from Air France Flight 447 but investigators still do not know why the plane crashed into the Atlantic, the French accident chief said Wednesday.

Paul-Louis Arslanian, head of the French air accident investigation agency BEA, expressed "a little more optimism" about the investigation as the discovery of so much debris has narrowed the vast search zone off the northeast coast of Brazil.

Brazilian officials on Wednesday denied that French investigators were being barred from examining bodies recovered from an Air France jet that plunged into the Atlantic, as the search for answers to the disaster continued.

"We have four French investigators accredited to participate in the examinations" of the bodies being carried out in the northeastern city of Recife, a Brazilian police spokesman told AFP.

The French and Brazilian search and recovery team have recovered 50 bodies until now from the ill fated Air France flight 447 that went down in Atlantic Ocean on its way from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. There are fears that the many of the remaining bodies of the passengers may never be recovered and could be lost in the vast and turbulent Atlantic Ocean.


The hunt for the passenger's bodies is underway for well over two weeks and only 50 bodies have been recovered.

I bet I'm going to have nightmares about this tonight, and I can only imagine what the bereaved families will feel. This seems a little graphic for the investigating team to release with the cause still unknown, IMO.
I hope those who perished never knew anything, but I fear they did know they were in dire distress.
This is the saddest post I've read since the initial crash confirmation. It's so horrible. To fall through the air with a violence that stripped clothing off. OMG. To have a loved one's body floating in the Atlantic, nude.. it makes me retch.

A French nuclear submarine and American sonar searching gear have been deployed in the area of the South Atlantic where the remnants of the airplane are assumed to be, but it's a huge area to cover in such a short time and many experts doubt that the black box can be found before the pingers give out. Brazil's military said Saturday it was taking a specialized aircraft with on-board radar out of the search for more remains from the Air France plane disaster in the Atlantic.

The air force Embraer R-99 was being removed from the operation after nearly three weeks of flying over the zone, 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) off Brazil's coast, the military said in a statement.
