UPDATE:

There have been no matches via DNA so far. The coroner actually got back to me pretty quick and was such a nice gentleman! Here is our conversation ...

Me: Hello Mr. Belinc, I am hoping you can give me an update on the unidentified person from this article:
http://www.albanyherald.com/news/2012/sep/21/gbi-deputies-exume-body-baker-county/

In my free time I, and a group of others known as Websleuths, search the internet to try and link UIDs to missing persons so they can get their name back and their families gain closure. We have been trying for years to identify this young woman but sadly have not had much luck with feedback/updates from the various agencies we have contacted about possible matches. Right now we are looking to see if the DNA has helped identify this woman yet and if not, have any submitted possible matches been officially ruled out? Can you please help in this matter so we can move forward in our searches and try to get this young woman home.

Coroner: Thank you for notifying me of your concern. I have been concerned with this case since I was elected Coroner 10 years ago. I spoke with a GBI agent a couple of months ago about the DNA. Unfortunately it was not a match, so we are back to where we started. Although with today's technology, the DNA is in the unclaimed missing persons data base. I became interested in this case when I first started as Coroner, looking through my older files. She had died on my Birthday in 1985. One of those things I guess. So I do appreciate your interest and help with this case. Over the years I have had about five or six families asking about this case, but no match. I hope soon some closure will be brought to Jane Doe and her family. Thanks again, Andy Belinc

Me: I am glad the DNA was able to be extracted and pray she is given a name soon! Can you by chance confirm the non matches so we can cross them off of my list and therefore not resubmit them? Thank you so very much for your response, one of the very few we have gotten over the years for this particular lJane!!

Coroner: No matches yet. So glad others are concerned too..........so much more to this

Me: Oh I am sorry, I was looking for NON matches; so those you have checked but it ended up not being them. If you are not allowed I understand. Yes, a big group of us is researching this woman...we do it in our free time. Everyone deserves a name! :) Thanks again and happy holidays!

***He was obviously not understanding what I was saying lol. Very nice though and a good contact. As mentioned earlier I have also emailed the BCSO ... but not the GBI.***

Wonderful finds! That last article about the missing person has a NAMUS case:

Our JD was younger and found in late May

Oh yes I know but I just found it an odd coincidence when searching for articles that there was another young blonde woman lost near the same road.

I think it is awesome you are finding those articles at all, I don't know how to do that besides google lol.

Okay, so a woman viewed the body of Jane Doe before autopsy and gave a possible name or relatives name; like the father. I'm wondering if this is what led to Betty Evans name coming up.

I wonder who this person was that viewed the body?

Betty Evans was put forward by Betty Evans's ex-husband. Ex-husband thought it might be her based on news coverage, but then her family viewed clearer photos with help of LE, and it was determined that it was definitely not Betty Evans.

The father thing is separate, someone else that viewed the body before the autopsy, said that Jane Doe looked a lot like a man they knew that would be like her father. LE had the name of the man, but were unable to track him down.

Dna is such a wonderful technology, but with hindsight more would have been done when someone went missing and DNA samples taken and entered into a data base. Unfortunately some of these cases were before DNA or was in its infancy. And I'm presuming a lot of these bodies were buried. It is so sad that so many are unidentified . I was reading a case recently that there had been a match for years but the departments involved had not got together so years went by before she was identified .

Yes, it's very sad! So many of them have only reconstructed faces but with her we have a photo and that name in the jeans makes it so much more interesting. It's a shame that pictures of the belongings weren't taken or not released. What is the point of not releasing that info. now so many years later...?

I'm sure the police called around to all the local hotels/motels and showed her picture. Better info. on wether she had ever been pregnant would be great too.

I wanted to add, I'm sorry, I don't add anything to the conversation as far as researching, sleuthing etc.
I've tried a few times to match up does and stuff like that but I get nightmares from that stuff and I already have an over active imagination so I just wait for someone braver than me to find her name.

Has anyone looked at Kathleen Randall to be a match for this girl? I think the sketch looks quite a bit like her, and she's in the right age range. She's also the type of person to have bought second hand jeans.

That laundry tag interests me. I wish they had a photo up of it.

Was this girl's profile ruled in or out? She does has some similarities to ventilator picture. The faces appear longer and narrower to me.

I kept trying to get the coroner, recently, to give me a list of people they had ruled out. He mentioned they tried to match 5 or 6 people during his time there but never game me names. Unfortunately I think she may not have been called in as missing. She is an older female and they feel she was a drifter. Her family probably just figured she was doing her thing and they lost contact. I pray I am wrong and will continue to search for her. She has me hooked!

The coroner's photo shows her with her hair down, and I am pretty sure the up-do was done by the hospital staff, and probably not the way she normally did her hair.

Nevertheless, I figured that it can't hurt to show her with the pulled back hairstyle, as she appeared when she was in the hospital prior to her passing.

Jumping into the thread since it is featured. Very interesting case.

My brain got stuck on the laundry tag with a name on it. I didn't see this discussed before. I wish we had a picture of the tag. I know people with young children often put name tags in clothes when they are in pre-school or day care where they might have an accident and need to change clothes. Also some summer camps require that parents label clothes, especially sleep away camps. There used to be places where you could have labels custom made and parents would sew them into clothes before the kids went away to school.

Britannia was a popular "teen" brand in the late 1970's, they were sold in higher end department stores like Bloomingdale's or Macy's. (The brand was later bought by Levi's and they became a less expensive brand, sold in places like K-Mart, but that wasn't until the late 1980's/early 1990's.) I wonder if their popularity was regional in the late 1970's? I know they were popular in the US northeast. Could we pinpoint the general geographic area through were those jeans were popular?

The fact that the jeans were Britannia brand, and the name tag make me think that the jeans came from a teenager. (And likely a teenager that went to sleep away summer camp.) If that's the case, they were probably donated to a charity or thrift store. (As people here have already concluded.)

The other case where people might have laundry labels with a name is some kind of institutional situation, for a teen that might mean a group home. For an adult or teen that might been a hospital or rehab center.

Just throwing some thoughts out there.

Please forgive me if i am asking questions that have already been addressed. I just skimmed over the first page and didnt find an answer.

How long did she live after being taken to the hospital? What was the cause of death? Did she have drugs in her system or an illness not related to injuries that put her in the hospital?

I am asking because the pictures Carl has done, she looks ill. Just wondering if this is how she looked, or was it from the injuries and being in the hospital.

Also wondering if she always looked like this if she was on drugs or had a chronic illness that might have contributed to her death.

As far as the name tag in the jeans, I would not put a lot of stock in that . I buy used clothing for myself and my family all the time. I am a thrift store junkie and you find items of clothing often with names in them. Whether its from a person who is in a nursing home or institution, to teens taking clothing to camp, or babies and kids clothes labeled for day care. Wouldn't let that be too much of a red herring and lead us off track. She most likely picked them up second hand or they were given to her if she was in rehab or stayed in a rescue mission.

Don't feel bad, I have become so paranoid from working on these cases that I now wear my old military dog tags at all times. And once I was looking at a bunch of autopsy pix at 2 am, and I clicked on one that had open eyes superimposed on it. The previous pic I had been viewing was the same one but with eyes closed. The effect was that the corpse suddenly opened its eyes. I think there is a dent in the ceiling of my office where my head hit it.
This case seems solvable. Was she hit by a vehicle or beaten?
