i think we may be talking literally down

I think the chickens will be okay - it's much better to wrap them in newspaper and safely evacuate them than leave them behind on Key West where they would have surely been killed in the hurricane.

I know you care about animals. Many of us do. I think the person who managed to rescue them was doing the best they could with what was available. I don't think poultry crates were readily available last minute.

I am also an animal lover. I don't like seeing the chickens like that.

That said, I've met those chickens. They are mean, they're feral. They have to be. Whoever did that knew how to handle them,or they'd need a transfusion. They put a lot of effort into rescuing them.

They will be alive to crow another day.

He likes it much better. He still takes 150 mg of Trazadone with it.

Don't tell anyone, but he once ate a can of pineapple, and topped it off with a packet of beef jerky. *shudders*

Mmmmm - Hawaiian-style beef jerky.

Sounds like some of my past maryjane munchie episodes. It could be that some of world's best culinary creations are the result of mind altering substances!

They are alive now. If they were left behind they would have died. Period.

No one even thought about the Key West Chickens, I'm glad someone did. I was more worried about the Hemminway Cats.

Your source that they are alive? I can't find any information on where they were taken or how they arrived.

45 miles inland from Tampa? Chances on riding out? They didnt make shelter.

I have done research too. That is absolutely, positively not legitimate. The legitimate way to transport them would be in a Poultry Carrier Crate. That picture is utterly insane. I hope law enforcement has been notified.

Since these are wild "gypsy" chickens, I doubt the kind-hearted rescuer has poultry carrier crates on hand or the opportunity to gather appropriate cardboard boxes. :) According to this article, it's not cruel as chickens are normally carried with their wings held tight against them (this is true...I've raised chickens). It's either do this or let them die in the storm. There are thousands of gypsy chickens who won't make it. I don't think LE is going to worry about these "chicken burritos" in the midst of a hurricane. They have bigger problems to deal with. JMO

one chicken keeper commented and reassured everyone of the chickens' wellbeing. "The way the chickens are wrapped up with their wings tucked down, is how you carry a chicken you flatten their wings to their sides and carry them like a football under your arm, so really overall the chickens should be moderately comfortable and should not get hot.

The chicken keeper goes on to say that the driver no doubt has AC and the chickens are used to heat.

TIP: If you are going to be using a generator make SURE you turn your main circuit breaker off first at your electric panel box.

An alert came across our tv screen just now. Lee and Doughtery Co, Georgia are in a tropical storm warning and it hasn't even hit the Keys yet. Sigh. A State of emergency has also been declared for our county and those surrounding it.

Local officials have advised the citizens once the wind rises to 40 MPH they will not be able answer 911 calls to be evacuated due to putting the first responders in peril. Our grandson who is a Sgt with the Lee County Sheriff's department got off duty at 6pm today. He is to report back for duty at midnight, and will remain on duty 24/7 until possibly Tuesday night or Wednesday. God please take care of all of our first responders.

Are they like the ones in St Thomas that climb up in trees?

Unfortunately not a hoax at all. That's what Donna did in 1960 to Bonita Beach! During the calm of the eye, there was no water at the beach. It then surged-in after the eye had passed and pushed almost all beach homes into the bay.

There are quite some similarities between Donna and Irma. Bad.

This is probably my last post for some time to come, so be good you all, behave, and be safe!

One of the streams went down just a few minutes after I started watching it. I wouldn't expect any of them to last much longer.

Thank you, thank you. Yes, worried sick. Thats a good point about the public shelter! Its good to know I dont have to worry about the surge as well as the wind.

Victory - I also wanted to add that when Harvey hit Texas, I was beside myself with anxiety & worry for my brother in Houston, my older sister in Beaumont, and my friends in Conroe. Miraculously, none of them experienced flooding in their homes, although the water encroached dangerously close.

I know how you feel. It's nerve-wracking and scary and leaves one feeling helpless.

We're all here for you and your family. Prayers & Love to you & your loved ones.

Flash Flood Warning until 2:00 a.m. for Bonita Springs.

This one - Southern Most Beach Resort Beach & Pier - will be useless once the lights go out but wow, look at those waves!
