I'm curious why it wasn't on his aunt and uncles minds. I've read that he could be registered in school even as an illegal immigrant child. Why didn't they immediately register him in school? Was he older than 16?
They may not have thought it was necessary. In fact, it may not have occurred to them at all. Education is not as valued in some cultures. Work is more important. What would be the advantage of even going to school?

I believe he posted the picture of guns in 2011, but the time stamp on the photo itself (like an old school digital camera) said 2004. That made people think he likely found the picture online and reposted it since he would have been young in 2004. I don't know if that's true or not though.

Okay, that's compatible with the time he claimed to have entered the country. Scratch that theory, and thank you. :)

Mollie was probably well aware of the need to make the call without alerting the abductor. I'm just guessing that Mollie was immediately aware of the danger she was in as soon as she saw the suspect stop the car.

This is very plausible IMO. Assuming she saw him coming. If he stopped in front of her wouldn't her natural instinct kick in and she goes for phone immediately (strange car, running alone, rural secluded road, dusk)?? Or she’s ambushed from behind (headphones & doesn’t hear him). Incredibly terrifying either way & feel devastated for her & her family.

Jessica Ridgeway's 17 year old abductor thought about it and decided the easiest way to abduct someone with a car is to stop a little ahead of them, grab them as they approach the car, and throw them into the back seat of the car.

It's much more difficult to stop a car behind someone, catch up to that person jogging, and drag that jogger back to the car. That doesn't add up. Too risky.

Stop the car ahead of the victim, corner the victim with an open back seat door, and leave.

I do believe that she immediately knew that she was in trouble. If she'd had any way out, this discussion wouldn't exist.

I suspect MT had no idea what was happening until it was too late. I've seen so many of her peers at UI step into the street against a NO WALK signal without bothering to look up from whatever device they were giving their undivided attention. And I think it's possible MT was focused soley on her jogging.

I don’t see any reason whatsoever to believe his silly story.

It’s likely he drove ahead and ambushed her.

Remember, people in interrogations often admit to partial and lesser things when they feel trapped. I believe it’s likely that it was paramount in his life to hide this secret, and these secret desires. To admit to laying in wait and ambushing is to admit to his life’s secret.

The blackout story and conversation is a cover story to cover what he covets, fantasies, and obsessed over.

... of the murder? Don't know. Regarding the girlfriend and daughter, there are very mixed reports stating that they lived together and she moved out when he was arrested, to they separated two years ago.
Perhaps on-again-off-again. And we don’t know who broke it off or why.

Wondering if this tragedy has made anyone rethink their own day to day processes

I am so unnerved by this happening that I have tried in recent weeks to discuss changes with my teen age daughter regarding her activities after school. I have tried to make her more conscious of the dangers around her.. She gets irritated of course but has agreed to keep an open mind

If there is one bright spot in this whole unthinkable tragedy, it's that Mollie can continue to contribute to society.

Who knows how many lives she has possibly saved now that CR is locked away. And with his DNA on file, perhaps other cases will be solved.

Search, investigative, and forensics techniques might improve from lessons learned through Mollie.

Safety has been brought to the forefront. Maybe the next target will have taken a self-defense course because of Mollie and won't become a victim.

Her's was a beautiful life cut short, but not all is lost. She wanted to help the world, and she will.

Good Morning everyone!

Have to run out today but did want to comment on this.

For whatever reason he did not get in US legally. Maybe he couldn’t afford to immigrate legally. It’s expensive. He might have chosen school if he was legally in US, but b/c he would have to register for school, and they would discover his status, he prob avoided it. Not a fact, JMO

If they can afford Coyote's which are expensive with no guarantee that you will get here alive or if at all they can afford to do it the right way.
We have laws but they are not followed, hence the problems.

There is some debate over if he attended HS or not

We don’t know his true age but he claims to have come at 17

His father stated he came to work

What is the age that would be considered mandated for children entering the US to attend school?

“Like other children, undocumented students are obliged under state law to attend school until they reach a mandated age. “

I don’t believe undocumented children have to produce birth certs or vaccination records to attend school, many don’t have them and public school is a right under Plyler vs. Doe (457 U.S. 202 1982)

I don't know whether to think he is an organized offender or not. It's very possible he is.
The fact that he has no driver's license did make me question exactly whom the car in question belongs to. Of course now it belongs to the authorities for the moment.
It's horrendous knowing he stabbed Mollie.
I fear lots more details will come out in trial that her family will have to deal with, and I really wish that he wouldn't go to trial. However, I can surely understand if the family decides they do not want any type of plea bargain offered to him. (assuming there ever would be, since he led them to her remains).
I still wonder, even tho they had him cornered, if he might have thought the reward would still go to his child, by cooperating with the authorities.
This is all just beyond the pale.
I continue to question what he has done before especially in Mexico. We all know many of those crimes go unreported.
Thanks for all the great posts and hoping for real justice for Mollie on this earth.

Sadly, the families usually rally around even when they believe their family member is a killer. I'm not surprised his family is in the courtroom, especially at the beginning. It's almost like the same stages of grief for them, and the first stage is denial.

Maybe he didn’t have the necessary documentation to start school so off to work he went.

Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight

I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.

There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts
In your memory I live on.

Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

I know it’s been said he worked on another farm but it’s not been verified yet so I’m wondering he he got a job because he got IM pregnant and why was he trolling HS girls?

Mr. Lang said Mr. Bahena Rivera had been hired at the farm in August 2014 after presenting a valid Social Security number, which was checked with a federal database, and a state-issued identification card.

The new employee was known around town as Cristhian Bahena Rivera, but around the farm by the fraudulent name listed on those documents, a name the authorities did not disclose.

Outside of work, Mr. Bahena Rivera started dating a Brooklyn high school student, Iris Monarrez, whom he met in 2013. Around 2014, they had a daughter.
