There is some debate over if he attended HS or not

We don’t know his true age but he claims to have come at 17

His father stated he came to work

What is the age that would be considered mandated for children entering the US to attend school?

“Like other children, undocumented students are obliged under state law to attend school until they reach a mandated age. “

I don’t believe undocumented children have to produce birth certs or vaccination records to attend school, many don’t have them and public school is a right under Plyler vs. Doe (457 U.S. 202 1982)

Mandated age for school is a tricky thing when you're talking about someone who isn't on the books. I graduated from high school at 16, so age isn't a factor. The issue is when you have someone who essentially is a ghost it's hard to oblige them to do anything, including attending school. There have been instances of illegal aliens attending high school at 21 upwards of 23 years old because of missing documentation, falsified birth certificates and other forms of identification (see Asher Potts from Ukraine).

This miscreant has proven he cares little about the laws of the United States.

I doubt he worried about any laws requiring he go to school. JMO

Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight

I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.

There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts
In your memory I live on.

Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

A beautiful piece of poetry to pay tribute to a beautiful life. I wonder ...has anyone heard anything else about the funeral being broadcast? I would like to watch it.

Right

I know that some undocumented people lie about their age so they could be part of DACA

Several articles were written about grown men in HS so that they could take advantage of DACA

I think his family sent him here to work, not to better his life by attending school

Oh I doubt it too, I think he was sent here to work and send money home

But he had to present the farm ID that stated his age, would like to know what age his fake ID says he is

The farm would have to turn him down if he was a minor and should be in school

Jessica Ridgeway's 17 year old abductor thought about it and decided the easiest way to abduct someone with a car is to stop a little ahead of them, grab them as they approach the car, and throw them into the back seat of the car.

It's much more difficult to stop a car behind someone, catch up to that person jogging, and drag that jogger back to the car. That doesn't add up. Too risky.

Stop the car ahead of the victim, corner the victim with an open back seat door, and leave.

I do believe that she immediately knew that she was in trouble. If she'd had any way out, this discussion wouldn't exist.
I agree. I keep thinking it had to happen quickly so no would see and Mollie would be disabled so he could move her to that secondary location. Pull in front, pop the trunk, run back to meet her, disable her and push her in the trunk and go. I really don't think she saw it coming.

I know it’s been said he worked on another farm but it’s not been verified yet so I’m wondering he he got a job because he got IM pregnant and why was he trolling HS girls?
He was probably trolling high school girls because there were slim pickings for girls his age in Brooklyn AND he somehow got to the point of being a creeper.

I agree. How old is he - where's his birth certificate, and where did he live before the dairy farm. So far, from news articles, he may have lived in Blairstown with his uncle at some point, and he has facebook contacts in Tama and Marshalltown.

If he was truly 16, why was he not immediately enrolled in school? If he was 20, then it makes sense that he was too old and uninterested to sit in grade 10 classes. If he wasn't at school and didn't work, what did he do? What name did he use? When did he start using that name?
My guess is that he arrived and was allowed to stay based on the generosity of aunt and uncle! I would be surprised if there was any money there.
He was expected to work and support himself in this land of opportunity even at his young age.

I want to know the name on that fake ID!! I don't know why they're keeping that secret unless, and this is my hope, that he's been arrested before under that fake name.

Yes! That seems weird that his name hasn’t been dug up by the media. Seems like a relatively simple thing to find out through a circle of acquaintances.

I know I wrote about this before, but I'm thinking again about the questions to LC about Mollie being "in a home" at 9:45. Makes me wonder if her phone did connect to her home wireless if he drove her past it or near it. Or if the fitbit looked like she made it home (as the neighbor said LE told them it did) because she was driven past DJ's house. Not sure if the times line up or not. Maybe he drove around for a minute with her in the trunk, figuring out where to go.

Maybe the family sent him away from Mexico because he got himself into some trouble there.

What makes me extra angry/sad is that there are are practically no “What ifs” or “If onlys.” He appears to have been cruising the town and to have come into town on a regular basis. Whatever evening she chose to run or whatever route she chose to take, he would have found her. Jmo

Wondering if this tragedy has made anyone rethink their own day to day processes

I am so unnerved by this happening that I have tried in recent weeks to discuss changes with my teen age daughter regarding her activities after school. I have tried to make her more conscious of the dangers around her.. She gets irritated of course but has agreed to keep an open mind
Parents have an awesome responsibility here...for years you raise them covering the bases keeping them safe and checking on and verifying to and from school, after school events, friendships, other adults and their connections online and then their upper teens and privacy is paramount to them. You don’t want to fill them with paranoia and fear so it’s addressed but not the unnerving details. Preparing them for reaction time and giving them tools to use in case they are in a situation. Self defense classes strengthen their sense of and ability to react. Mace, whistles alarms also good to have in your possession. I have addressed several things with my 18 yo daughter just starting college and she has also voiced her own ideas related to her personal safety. One thing that did catch me off guard was parking lot safety she was not really aware of this behaviorally. I just took it for granted she knew all about it, but no she didn’t. Simple maneuvers park up close to entry of business, park where it’s well lit, keep your doors windows closed/locked when in car alone, observe other vehicles/ people near you and at or around the car. Use security to walk you out at night or if you feel someone bothering you is hanging around.

Right, I would speculate based on his appearance that he could not impress girls his age, IMO
Yep. And girls his age would have most likely moved on from the small town mindset and were looking for more than a guy living in squalor and tending the cows. Not that there is anything wrong with working in that way, it’s that a lot of women want more stability than that. JMO

Yes, I’m sure LE and FBI are digging into that

But all we know right now is that he was sent to work because there was no work at home

Why wasn’t he in school at home?

I read somewhere he comes from a town of about 4oo

Going to research into the schools there
