Don't machines do the milking? There are plenty of family-owned dairies who have no problem hiring American farm workers and paying them a decent wage and benefits.

Yes, machines do do the milking. But someone must wash the cow crap and dirt off of the tail and back end of the cow. Then the cow must be put in place, restrained, for another worker to hook up the suction to the teats. The the cow has to be lead away. All of this takes people. And everything must be kept clean. There is an expensive robotic milking machine, but even that needs people to direct the livestock, though I could envision a auto cow washer...but who is supposed to pay for all this hardware. Cheep migrant labor gives you cheaper eggs and milk. American dairies are going under and dairy farmers are dumping milk, and committing suicide because they can't compete with Canadian subsidized milk production. The US has refrigerated warehouses full of cheese (they give it away to SNAP card holders for free - makes the BEST grilled cheese, baked cheese and mac, and crabmeat au gratin) made as a way to subsidize US daries. You want to pay $6+ for a gallon of milk, pay a living wage to non-farm family workers to keep the place clean and your milk safe.

I can’t read it, I have to pay

ICE showed up with DCI and are looking around. Nothing to see here citizen, move along. It is like when the IRS comes to visit, they poke around looking. I've been in an office raided by the Feds. They spent the day digging while turning scheduled patients away at the door and the parking lot in FBI windbreakers, took away a bunch of stuff (we had to pay for to get back), and no charges were filed.

If he did milking, that just means he hooked the cows up to the machines. The dairy could hire prison inmates who qualify for work release to do that work.

That's good. Let's bring in bus loads of certified, hardened criminals to replace the occasional homicidal SK immigrant. Why not offer child molesters a place to live and work on the farm, as it is miles away from schools, in the middle of no where, where no one can hear you scream.....

Sounds delightful. The Mac and cheese sounds really good too.

'To apply for an original card, you must provide at least two documents to prove age, identity, and U.S. citizenship or current lawful, work-authorized immigration status. If you are not a U.S. citizen and do not have DHS work authorization, you must prove that you have a valid non-work reason for requesting a card.'

Sigh, back in the day (1974), you just mailed in a post card. Things have gotten a lot tougher since 9/11!

Government cheese is not that great to eat sliced on a sandwich, but is the best to bake with. There are variations in the 5lb blocks, as they appear to sometimes be blended. A friend of mine was living on next to nothing, but her son at the docks was able to trade up some fish he caught for a hamper of crabs. She boiled and picked them, the best crabmeat au gratin ever! Ask your inner-city students about Government Cheese. You might get a block of chewy, gooey goodness for Christmas.

Noooo those kinds of criminals such as SK, criminally insane etc. the real bad ones would not be allowed to participate outside of the prison.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are currently 12 states (including WA) that allows illegal immigrants to get a driver’s license. But by law, it must ask for and keep on file an applicant’s SSN, or other information establishing identity such as a birth certificate or country of origin. In Washington State, the State used to make the collected information immediately available in a database to all police, federal, state and local whenever they requested it, but this was changed in April of this year. (Sanctuary State)... In theory, CR could have gotten a legal DL in WA, (or one of the other 11 states that allows illegal immigrants to get a drivers license). The system is broken, no if's, and's or but's. MOO

Where there is a will, a good strong right arm, and cash available a way will be found.

RE MSM, it was a family relative of the Dairy Farm owners who was responsible for processing the SSN number verification, and other employee paperwork. Likely from an office on site. There us no "company" to investigate. This is pretty typical for a family farm business. While the Dairy farm may have held their nose and looked the other way when they hired CR (as does their competition, and a LOT of Agribusiness), they did nothing that they can be criminally charged with, or prosecuted for. There is nothing to see here, move along.
Yarrabee Farms, Inc. is indeed a company registered with the Iowa Secretary of State.

I'm pretty sure federal law requires companies to retain copies of employee documents showing they are authorized to work in the U.S. If they don't have it, they probably could be facing rather steep fines. It also would mean they lied when they claimed they ran CR through the SS verification system. Lying to feds is a federal crime.

As this is way Off-Topic to this thread, I’m writing this just for general interest sake. It’s not true that Canada subsidizes the dairy industry.

But they do stringently protect it by charging high tariffs (taxes) to minimize US milk products from crossing the border. Why, because of Canada’s system of “supply management” which literally means the supply is managed. In order to produce milk, each dairy producer must own or buy what’s known as a “quota” which is essentially a high cost licence to produce only a specific maximum quantity. Therefore competition within the dairy industry is controlled even within our borders because no producer is able flood the market beyond the established amount of dairy quota. For the same reason the govt isn’t willing to allow imports in to flood the market either, so to minimize free trade the govt slaps on high tariffs resulting in US products becoming more costly than what’s produced locally. I’m neither defending or disagreeing with how it is....
