That was later clarified, it was the building that was abandoned, not the vehicle.

If this is a direct transcript of Carter’s words, I see how whatever was abandoned caused confusion, the building or the vehicle:

“Indiana State Police say they are looking for the driver of a vehicle parked at the old CPS/DCS/Welfare building that was abandoned on the east side of CR 300 N next to the Hoosier Heartland Highway between noon and 5 p.m. Feb. 13, 2017. That's the day 14-year-old Libby and 13-year-old Abby went missing. Their bodies were found the next day just out of sight of the bridge. Police did not give a description of the vehicle.”

Nice post i have not seen this before, what i find interesting is when the camera starts panning right @ about 22 seconds and passes by the old building before being torn down.
this video is of the day of the search feb14th?, then look at the area by the old building i swear i see what looks like a white vehicle sitting there?

maybe someone good at the video enhancement like redbeard can give us a better look!

My point is the poster @sunsetbeach you were replying to posted screenshots from the same video, google maps and a video from the day after showing the exact same object that is clearly not a vehicle.

Betty, to your point, LE considered Danny Heinrich, who killed Jacob Wetterling, an annoying, weird, but relatively harmless nuisance for years. In that case, LE missed so many clues that would have led them to Danny Heinrich as Jacob's killer. Instead, Heinrich flew under the radar for 26 years.

I don't liken Abby and Libby's case to Jacob's. Although we don't have an arrest yet, I believe LE will figure out who murdered Abby and Libby in the near future.

It is a sad story. He was not perceived as dangerous by the LE because he did give out the right vibe - for them! In a lineup, he is the smallest one. He is harmless to big, strong, adult males. He is not interested in them, either. He is a danger to young children.

However, specifically in such cases, good root-cause analysts is required. Is it one stupid LE, or is it a high-crime area with exhausted, underpaid LEs? Not to exonerate the LE in the case, but... the system that deserves improvement, perhaps?

I am way behind and still somewhere in the middle of the previous thread. But I still wanted to post this because people don't seem to know what to do with the sketch and the video. This is all my personal opinion.

LE isn't asking the public to look for anything strange in the video, like if he has a disability (they even said at the PC that people have to remember that he is walking over this bridge that is in very bad shape) or if and what might be in his jacket, etc. They know all that already because I'm sure they had all kinds of specialists watch the video to determine all those things (they might not know exactly what is hidden in his jacket but I also don't think that's all that important). For example if he had a disability, they would have told the public. Probably 2 years ago (we only had stills, they had the entire video right from the beginning).

Same goes for the voice - they are not asking the public for any accent he might have, speech impediment, etc. They probably have more audio and they know all this already.

And the sketch - they don't want the public to look for weird things like lazy eyes or some kind of illness they think they can see in the sketch.

They also don't want any tips about the above mentioned things - if a thousand people send them "tips" about illnesses or disabilities they think they can see, you just give them a lot of work and distract them from the work they actually have to do.

What they are looking for is people who KNOW the perp. Wth the sketch, no idea how similar it actually looks to the real person, but especially now with the video plus the voice from the video, somebody out there KNOWS who this is. If you know a person really well, family that you spend a lot of time with, co-worker that you work with every day, good friends, best friends, a neighbor that you know well, from the short video and even before, the last 2 years just from the voice and the stills, you recognize the person.

So knowing this (or at least suspecting this), it's really creepy to me that someone out there knows who this is. Probably even since the stills were released plus the "down the hill" recording. Probably more than one person knows who this is. And that's the tip that LE is waiting for. Hard to believe that those people are just looking the other way. They have to take a deep breath and call police, he might do it again and I just know I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

Yikes! That may have come from me. When I tried to watch the video it was frozen at the beginning so at first all I saw was that white truck at the very start. So I asked about it. I should have deleted that post.

Something just hit me... Derrick said the “guy” said there were a ‘couple’ by the water.... so I hope he is clear on that... guy said he saw a ‘couple’ (of girls?) by the water could that mean the guy Derrick questioned.... could he be the suspect? Could he have carried out the crime and was heading back to vehicle? The girls ( a couple of) were found by the water....?

IMO they are asking for witnesses to come forward, who may have seen a vehicle parked at the old - abandoned-unoccupied-now demolished CPS/DHS Welfare building in order to possibly collaborate a sighting from a known witness placing the vehicle at the location on the day of the murders. That sighting may have occurred prior to the hours of 12pm-5pm and they now need additional witnesses to place the vehicle in or around the area during the time of the crime.

I do not know, if there is in case a witness for the vehicle. This is all IMO. The fact that they did not share with the public about a certain make and model during the last PC may be due to that they don't know, or that they know the make and model and need to have independent witnesses to place a known individual/driver/passenger into that vehicle or at the CPS/DHS location or anywhere close to the trail.

Unfortunately, that’s not what happens in high profile cases like this.

For every solid, specific tip, there are hundreds of worthless ones.

It’s a good thing I’m not manning the phones, because I’d have things to say to these people...

Does anyone recall LE stating during one of their fairly early press conferences they’d been voluntarily contacted by everyone who they wanted to talk to, who was on the trail that afternoon, except for the suspect on the bridge in Libby’s video?

I’ve searched and searched but found nothing. I don’t know if I’m remembering or dreaming it.
