Respectfully, media , again , have no clue what they are reporting.

They are mixing up the conductor and the engineer.

The conductor is the flight attendant. The engineer is the pilot. The enginner is in the back, where the cockpit is. It was in push configuration.
.

The conductor is in the front , which has nothing to do with the cockpit in the rear

When in push configuration , the front of the train , is basically just another passenger coach. Identical coach as all the ones in the middle , no power no controls etc the cabin of the airplane !

Maybe he wasn't supposed to be in the front but was? Maybe he went there because something was wrong? Just thinking out loud

This is from before the Govs' PC, where we learned the exact number of cars, four, engine in back, and the same scope of damage.

Ok this is just super weird, has anyone seen this?

Hazard materials warning for the United States. It was issued twice and says "Would you? Could you, on a train?" FEMA was hacked last night

WKTV NEWSChannel 2 FEMA replied that they did not send this out. They will launch a full investigation into how their codes were hacked. WKTV seems to be the only target of this hack. For now, we have disabled the codes in our decoder that trigger this alert. If there is a real National Alert, we will still receive it from the local radio stations we are assigned to monitor. WKTV will cooperate fully with FEMA, providing information about our hardware, software and internet access, and will provide log files from our devices. This information will be helpful to FEMA to track down the source of this hack.

Here is a video of the alert

Thank you for this update about the injured, JerseyGirl. Good to know.

I take the Northeast corridor train most every day into Newark Penn Station. This morning, around 7:00am, one of my co-workers texted me advising that there was a fatality on one of the Newark Penn station tracks and to expect delays. I got into work just fine with no delays, and then heard about the Hoboken crash, which happened around 8:30am. Its been a really bad day for NJ / NY transit - I am sorry for all those who were hurt and the family who lost a loved one.

I dont think that could be right --engineer is the person , in the back controlling train

maybe conductor - but is not the "driver"

I don't think this is right. On our metro north trains the engineer sits in the front.

A 34-year-old Hoboken mother is NJ Transit crash’s sole fatality, her heartbroken mother confirmed to The Post Thursday.

Fabiola Bittar de Kroon had just dropped her 1-year-old daughter off at daycare Thursday morning and was likely heading out to hunt for a new apartment when the speeding New Jersey Transit train barreled towards the station where she was standing.

The impact of the crash caused debris to fly onto the tracks, with at least one piece fatally striking the Brazilian lawyer.

Her mother, Sueli, who still lives in Brazil, said she received a call from de Kroon’s distressed husband around 4:30 p.m. with the tragic news.

“We are very, very sad,” she said.

De Kroon had only moved to New Jersey a year ago — leaving her hometown of Santos, Brazil to follow her husband, whose company relocated him to New York.

She quit her job and left behind her family to make a new life for their young daughter, Julia.

They had recently decided to start looking for apartments to be closer to Manhattan and find a better school district for Julia.

Sueli suspects that de Kroon was likely heading out to scout apartments Thursday morning after dropping off Julia at a local daycare.

De Kroon’s husband, Daan, was out of town on a business trip at the time of the crash, but was heading back to the city.

Thank you, Blondie in Spokane, for this information about this beautiful Brazilian lawyer, mom, wife, daughter, and newcomer to this area, Fabiola Bittar de Kroon, who leaves a very young daughter, Julia, behind.

Seems heart breaking. No words for this, just deep regret this happened to her. Her family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

NJ TRANSIT TRAIN APPROACHED STATION IN HOBOKEN AT 3 TIMES TYPICAL RATE OF SPEED, SOURCES SAY
By Jim Hoffer, ABC 7 NY

updated 10 mins ago

"The New Jersey Transit train that crashed Thursday approached the station at three times the typical 10 mph approach speed, sources tell Eyewitness News.
[...]
The damage, according to one investigator, suggests the brakes failed or the engineer never applied them.
[...]
"You've investigated a lot of accidents, what does your gut tell you?," we asked former train accident investigator James Sottile.

"The engineer was possibly incapacitated and could not control the train until it hit bumper block," said Sottile."
