After 18 Years, Jaycee Comes Home: The Latest
OAD 10/13/2009)
<snipped> It began like any other day. On the morning of June 10, 1991, Jaycee Dugard left home and headed to the school bus stop. Her stepfather, Carl Probyn, watched as the blond fifth-grader hurried to catch her bus.
Then, in a flash, Carl found himself living every parent's worst nightmare.
A car came screeching to a halt near Jaycee's bus stop, and she was dragged, screaming, into the gray Ford.

"I briefly spoke to Ed Smart today, father of Elizabeth Smart who was held in captivity for nine months before being rescued.
I called him for tonights segment with Anderson which, among other things, takes a look at the People Magazine exclusive pictures of Jaycee Dugard. Her family spokesperson said they released the exclusive photos as a way of letting everyone know that she and her family are doing well and that there is hope for the future.
Jaycee appears smiling and happy in all of them and tells People she wants to thank everyone for their support.
In one shot shes on a horse that she rides as part of her therapy in order to foster trust. Her daughters, mother Terry, and sister Shayna also ride and are part of the People spread. We dont see the faces of her daughters Angel and Starlit, allegedly fathered by Phillip Garrido they are instead photographed from behind."
Smiling out from the front cover of a magazine, this is Jaycee Dugard, the girl held captive in a kidnapper's backyard for 18 years.
Up until now, the only published pictures of Jaycee, who was abducted at 11, showed her as a freckle-faced schoolgirl.
Incredibly, family and friends say she is still smiling and looking forward to a new life rather than dwelling on the horror of her years as a prisoner of Phillip Garrido.

"Whether Phillip Garrido meant to open a school for children a claim careening across the blogosphere is doubtful.
It appears Garrido never followed through on any plans he had for "The Phillip C. Knight Institute." He never applied for a business license from Contra Costa County and filed nothing with the state Department of Education, officials said."

"Meanwhile, Hayward police on Wednesday said their final analysis of bones and bone fragments unearthed during their search of the Garrido property last month revealed no human remains. They were looking for clues to the 1988 abduction of Michaela Garecht."
Jaycee Dugard Looks Like the Image Forensic Artists Created to Help Find Her Hundreds of Missing Children Found Using Age-Progression Images
Oct. 15, 2009
<snipped> The NCMEC has been creating digital age-progressions of missing children since 1989, because, Allen said, "the public has a hard time imagining what a two-year-old might look like at six or eight years old and these images help the public recognize and identify missing children who have gotten older."
The NCMEC updates age-progression images every two years for children under 18 years old and every five years for adults older than 18. Though the center previously used specially designed software, today forensic artists at the center typically use the popular photo-effects software Adobe Photoshop.

Family Spokeswoman Erika Shulte told NBC television on Wednesday that Dugard, her two daughters, mother and sister are close, comfortable and happy and says they "seem like any other family."

<snipped> The Grace Foundation in El Dorado Hills rescues abused and neglected horses, then uses them in equine therapy for abused and neglected children.
Licensed family therapist Julie McBride said horses assist victims by relieving stress, anxiety and depression. She said horses are like a co-therapist.
"With someone like Jaycee, trust is going to be huge. She needs to be able to trust the people who are going to help her," McBride said. "With the horse being accepting and non-judgemental, that starts the relationship with the horse; they can transfer it to the relationship with the therapist."

<snipped> Dugard did not want her daughters’ faces revealed, but took one picture from behind of Dugard with her arms around the two girls – 11-year-old Starlit and 15-year-old Angel.
Her former neighbors near Antioch said the images bring comfort.
“She's got the same smile,” said onetime neighbor Phillip Lacosta.”[It’s] just nice that she's happy and doing good, you know? Nice to see that.”
“I thought she would be beat up or something,” said former neighbor Victor Acosta. “I don't know, ‘cause the way they had her in there and stuff. But [it’s] pretty impressive. I guess that she's okay.

<snipped> According to a report in the Sunday Times, Dugard plans to use the proceeds from a forthcoming book about her ordeal to pay for private education. Dugard would get a personal tutor to prepare her for college as a mature student - she is now 29, having been imprisoned by Garrido at the age of 11 - while her two girls, aged 11 and 15, would go to a private school.
