Absolutely, why hasn't the head of security spoken out?
Great question.
Usually a statement would be given I'd assume?

No one ever is obligated to speak to the media.

Thanks for your post. I will continue to ask questions as many others do.
There are many oddities as many have pointed out and unanswered questions even the victims are frustrated about.

It's great to ask questions especially when one is interested in the responses from others!

I meant to watch this last night and forgot.

"Hosts address Las Vegas shooting during CMA Awards, but it's hardly enough

You might have liked something more forceful as an acknowledgment of the most deadly mass shooting in modern U.S. history, just over a month ago at a Vegas country music festival while Nashville superstar Jason Aldean was performing. You might have liked to see Aldean himself, who showed up on “Saturday Night Live” to sing Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down” after the Oct. 1 killings but did not perform at the CMAs."

The Legal Loophole That Could Give the Vegas Shooting Victims a Big Payday

"This time, though, the civil justice system is poised to intercede. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and Eglet Prince Law Firm have filed a class action lawsuit against the makers and sellers of bump stocks, on behalf of survivors who suffered emotional or psychological harm from the attack. The suit alleges that Slide Fire (among other, as-yet-unnamed defendants) recklessly and indiscriminately marketed and sold these products to the public, despite the predictable outcome of a tragedy like the Vegas shooting, and in deliberate disregard for the spirit of longstanding laws banning fully automatic weapons."

I know you have been studying the lawsuits.. What is the case against the hotel, the most salient points, if you have time? does not have to be now..just whenever, I'd appreciate it? Thanks, either way.

-Kitty I will be glad to give you my thoughts. At this moment I am not able to but I will come back to it.

-For now it is best summed up as MGM/MB’s inferior Security methodology across the board. If they would have been open to that point at the onset this would look vastly different. Unfortunately they have gone to the extreme by not acknowledging the necessary room for improvement.

Has any person who is authorized to speak on behalf of MGM given a public statement mentioning "room for improvement" aside from this --

"In a statement of its own, MGM said that, “out of respect for the victims, we are not going to try this case in the public domain and we will give our response through the appropriate legal channels.”

The company described the mass shooting as “a meticulously planned, evil senseless act.”

“As our company and city work through the healing process, our primary focus and concern is taking actions to support the victims and their families, our guests and employees and cooperating with law enforcement,” MGM’s statement continued. “We are grateful for all who came to the victims’ aid that evening, including our employees, first responders, the police and citizens who acted in countless ways to assist.”

:modstop:

The Alerts on this thread are way too numerous and getting very tiresome.

If members don't stop the snark, sniping, sarcasm and bickering, we can start with some serious timeouts and/or close this general discussion thread with only the "No Discussion" media thread left open.

Post in accordance with TOS and that won't happen. Up to you folks.

This is very cool. They created a Facebook page for Las Vegas victims to find their heroes, the folks who helped save their lives.

"As soon as Chris Gilman knew she would survive the gunshot wound she sustained in the Las Vegas massacre, she wanted to find the two strangers who saved her life — a man and woman whose names she didn't even know.

She found a Facebook page called "Find My LV Hero" and posted a plea."

Three days later, she connected with her rescuers.

I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. This is one of the reasons I am sometimes grateful for it.

I have not studied the civil cases and am hoping to avoid that.. but I did see something about inferior glass on one.. I cannot remember which case or what the exact context was..?
the civil cases alone are gonna be massive..I do not know whether this thread will sustain them or will it be a separate thread entirely?

I am so so so hoping the fBI will tear that place asunder.. if they're good, they wont hold back.. could well be the beginning of the end for LV..

It's good to see that some of victims have become comfortable in connecting with each other and speaking out about it. The original story from the Canadian guy who was later plagued with hateful online threats from strangers on FB was also to recognize his hero. I'd like to think his "going public" with his bad experience turned helpful in putting a stop to the harassment.

"Matejka said police flagged down a local woman, also a concertgoer, who rushed the couple to the hospital in her vehicle........

"I’m just lucky we made it out alive, all of us,” she said. “I have just gained a lifetime friend, I’ve already told him my next stop is Canada.”

What do you mean "could well be the beginning of the end for LV"?

Could you clarify what you mean by hoping "the FBI will tear that place as sunder"?

Do you mean LV, or MGM, or what?

Security rules at Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon after Las Vegas shooting
“......No question this race in Las Vegas on the Strip in the aftermath of October’s tragedy will have the most intense protocols and procedures that we’ve experienced with the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series,” organizer Dan Cruz said.
Walsh, who is leading Metro’s efforts for the event, said police have adjusted their plan after the Strip shooting, but not drastically. He said Metro’s preparation and response saved lives Oct. 1.
Walsh acknowledged that the number of officers assigned to the marathon had increased to about 350, with plans for a helicopter circling above and overhead surveillance by officers throughout the route. Some officers will be armed with long-range guns......"

-myself as well, any of the bunch that needs tearing asunder where it applies. I think civil cases will be long lasting as there are many subjective parts to the puzzle.

-a bit OT, did you see that S. Wynn has a huge resort development in the works in Boston?

This may be old news to most of you, but I have not caught up this week.

A previous tragedy at MGM (a major fire in the ‘80s) and what the hotel learned about dealing with a disaster may be part of the reason for the lack of media cooperation:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/dirksm...ews-blackout-on-shooting-story-with-scoops/2/
Norm Clarke, the eyepatch-wearing Walter Winchell of Las Vegas, who covers the city via Norm Clarke's Vegas Diary, naturally had a source inside Mandalay Bay relaying news to him late into the night of Oct. 1. Clarke, at work on an autobiography, The Power of the Patch, says the lack of definitive news on the shooting in part reflects lessons learned by MGM from the last disaster it faced in Las Vegas: the MGM Grand Hotel fire in 1980, which killed 85 people and injured nearly 600. In that tragedy, MGM paid out over $200 million in settlements. Some 49 lawyers were involved in a trial so large that a special, oversized courtroom had to be built. No wonder Jesus Campos is under wraps
.

The security guard returned to work October 30.
https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime...d-injured-in-las-vegas-shooting-back-at-work/
Flansburg told the Review-Journal last week that Campos had spent most of his time staying at an undisclosed MGM property since his name became public, except for several days in Mexico on a pre-planned and company-approved trip to visit family.
“Following the tragedy, Mr. Campos’ name was publicly released, resulting in extensive and intrusive media attention,” Flansburg said. “Because of the unwanted attention days after the event, MGM Resorts offered Mr. Campos lodging for his privacy and protection, which Mr. Campos accepted and appreciated.”
Law enforcement officers interviewed Campos at a hospital and approved his trip to Mexico, Flansburg said.

Mandalay Bay building engineer Stephen Schuck also has returned to work, according to his brother. Schuck, who also appeared on “Ellen,” was caught in the initial hallway gunfire and helped direct police to Paddock’s room

That's very good news! The Brady Center is a good organization.

Agree, MGM may face some legal consequences for allowing guests to check in with so many weapons. But Paddock is the one who killed the people at the concert, no one else.

Maybe MGM will begin a trend to keep LV hotels "gun free". Sounds like a good idea. Have detectors at the entrance doors and allow people to check their guns and put them in storage while they're inside the hotel and casino.

So far in this thread, many seem interested in seeing MGM pay, but clearly others had a part in creating the situation.

I honestly can't see this happening. I'm not saying I wouldn't support it, but it's the American west.

Having people coat check their guns (for lack of better words) seems like a major liability.
