I hope not! Las Vegas has a population of 600+K. 200k Americans work for casinos. They just got an NHL team and are about to get an NFL team. And look what the city does for veterans. "The end for Las Vegas" would be a terrible thing. I hope the city comes back from this stronger than ever. I expect it to.

Yep, I also hope they can come back stronger than ever. NY did. I am sure Vegas can too.

It simply cannot.
The insurance premiums alone will be off the Richter scale.
Security will need to be top notch at top notch costs.
Everything will be looked at.
All the accounts.. all the 'loose' dealings.. all the deals that possibly should incur taxes..
How can any place ever be the same following a mass murder ?
Feds are not gonna just look at Paddock's accounts. They will look at aLL accounts.. they may well bring charges against the hotel ..
They may well have recommendations for why LV as it is is unsustainable..from any single or multiple aspects.
As Betty said, they may well need to change their gun policy.
Their insurance policies
Their safety procedures
Their emergency response procedures.

They will tear everything apart in search for answers, Paddock is dead, there will not be a trial, but they may well find very many anomalies.
That will have a knock-on effect on insurance payouts..
As far as the city coming back, its well back, but it came back too soon...without a period of mourning, without enough of an acknowledgement of what just happened.IMO.
Having said all that and having watched #GrenfellTower burn to the ground and having watched it with my own eyes all night long, I managed to convince myself that there weren't really bodies dropping from the higher floors because of course the building was entirely unoccupied..
#CognitiveDissonance.

Grenfell should have changed the face of public housing in the UK forever and rapidly and those who were responsible for the decisions to place flammable material on that building held to account.
It changed nothing..
Thats not good.

I think we can all agree LV will never be the same but that doesn't mean SP had the power to destroy it, even if that was his intent,

But there's no information at this point in time that MB or LV is guilty of anything that was directly responsible for his actions. Gambling is legal in the state of Nevada even though the Sheriff has stated it appears he lost money recently, he chose to spend years at casinos so it's not as though he was tricked or naive.

The Feds and LV are not strangers.

On the topic of Caesars Palace -

"A source familiar with the investigation told NBC News that Paddock was a frequent player "with the highest status" at Caesars Entertainment properties in Las Vegas."

Betty I think introduced the interesting possibility that SP may have been involved in money laundering in the past. There has to be something more to it than 20 years of high stakes gambling, hours, days and weeks of it, then losses over the last two years. It does make me wonder if his downfall begin with opportunities at the laundry tub running dry and rather than quit casinos, he began draining his own resources.

“The owners of the hotel where Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and injured hundreds more are being scrutinized for setting up hero security guard Jesus Campos in a room for free, prompting concerns that the hotel is tampering with a key witness in the case.

MGM Resorts International, which owns the Mandalay Bay hotel that employed Campos, began housing the guard shortly after he was identified on October 4 as the officer shot by Paddock. Lawyers are concerned about the arrangement because authorities have had trouble pinning down whether Paddock shot Campos before or after his rampage began.

“But Southern California attorney Patrick McNicholas, one of a team of lawyers suing MGM on behalf of the shooting victims, said Campos will be under “intense scrutiny” for the “very disconcerting” arrangement he accepted from MGM.

Another attorney on the team with McNicholas, Richard Bridgford, said they will be aggressively seeking details about Campos for their civil cases.

“We will certainly want to know the details of where he stayed, why he disappeared, who paid for his stay and, most importantly, what, if anything, he was told, and by whom,” Bridgford told the Review-Journal. “It goes to the credibility of the witness, his bias and the ever-changing timeline we are being provided.”

Finally. At least others are also looking for the same answers. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds for sure.

From the article :
“There’s a suspicion that they are trying to shape his testimony and don’t want him to provide information to the public about the incident,” Las Vegas attorney Will Kemp, who sued the MGM Grand after a deadly 1980 fire, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday. “Obviously they want him to come out with a version of the timeline that’s favorable to them.”

Stepped away from this tragedy. Has a motive been revealed?

Has it occurred to anyone that Mr. Campos is being protected from the rabid press and others who seem to believe he owes them something? Do people understand that he is not only a witness, but a victim?

Not everyone wants to be in the spotlight.

I encourage everyone to choose their news sources very carefully. Not just in relation to this case, but in general.

Ridiculous nonsense. IMO.

Wow, wow, wow.

"After this story was posted, the chief subject of the article, Sheri Sletten, told the Times that her account of reuniting with gunshot victim Matt Lewan after he was released from the hospital was false. That meeting did not occur. Lewan’s family says that while Sletten was present on the night Lewan was shot, Lewan’s father and a family friend administered the most important lifesaving aid."

Makes me sad for humanity. I'd have been even more peeved if I had read that long, long sib story, shed a few tears about it, perhaps posted it on SM, and then read this.

That's how I felt when I saw it. Like I'd been duped... but then again, I guess I was. IMO, corrections that completely discredit an article should be posted at the top of the page under the headline. Not at the bottom, or over on the sidebar, sandwiched between a bunch of web advertisements. I'm honestly surprised I even saw it.

No specific motive determined yet. Sheriff was interviewed, mentioned Paddock had lost a significant amount of money within the last two years and his brain was sent for further study (stroke or dementia maybe, my speculation only). He thinks the girlfriend or brother Eric might know more but up to this point, they're not forthcoming.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/skift....creases-security-following-mass-shooting/amp/

“At entrances to the Wynn resort in Las Vegas on Monday afternoon, guards scanned visitors with metal-detector wands and inspected their bags, creating a 10-minute wait to get inside. The new security protocol, put in place after Sunday’s mass shooting nearby, is likely to become the norm on the Strip and possibly beyond.

Casinos and entertainment venues are going to have to take a more holistic approach to security, thinking about rooftops and other potential shooting perches — considering the possibilities for an attack from all angles, said David Shepherd, a former FBI special agent in counterterrorism who later was the security director for Las Vegas Sands Corp.’s Venetian resort.

“We have to start thinking like the Secret Service — start looking at tall buildings,” said Shepherd, who co-authored a book called “Active Shooter.” “How far do we have to take it?”

The additional security measures highlight the dilemma facing companies in one of the nation’s top entertainment destinations, with a record of 42.9
visitors last year.

One executive at another casino operator, who asked not to be identified because security matters are sensitive, said the Wynn’s security check at the door is probably the industry’s future because there’s no other way to screen for people carrying weapons.

MGM will likely face a demand shock, coupled with an increase in marketing, promotion and security costs that heighten the “risk of negative revisions to estimates,” Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Rachael Rothman said in a note to clients Tuesday. She cut her rating on the shares to neutral”.

“Gambling hubs across the globe have also faced security issues. In the ***PHILIPPINES***where an arson attack at Resorts World Manila in June resulted in 38 deaths, casinos routinely scan vehicles before they enter the property and require visitors to open their bags for security checks.

Regulators in Macau on Tuesday contacted the territory’s casino operators, reiterating that the properties need to continue enhancing their security. Casinos in the world’s biggest gambling hub, which are currently near capacity during the Golden Week holiday, require visitors to go through a security door before entering.

Casinos and concert facilities need to have plans on how they can remove people quickly in the event of an active shooter and where to lead them in order to be safe, according to Alan Zajic, a security consultant specializing in hospitality, gaming, nightclubs and retail”.

Sometimes it's as if MGM has morphed into becoming a living, breathing thing. I have to remind myself it's only a publicly traded company, not capable of feelings.

I don't think the lawsuit angle is influencing any of this . I think the hotel , Janet Air Govt etc all participated in operations out toe there hotel

power is money

money is greed

a lawsuit --imo they move it into the losses
column on a report and move on

imo there is a lot more stuff they are concerned

hiding what was a "hero" in the early duys says much

leaving the country --

has anyone found the hard drive yet??
