Thank you for that article!

Is is there a mistake? It says the girls were dropped off by two men.

eta: Nevermind. I see my
mistake!

Yes, I'm finding that confusing, too. I think what that means is that the two kidnappers dropped them off (at house #1, Bigelow/Richville), and they walked to Stinson's house (house #2, Richville).

Richville :)

Rhonda Wells, senior dispatcher for St. Lawrence County Sheriff, told CNN early Friday that the girls had been located and were safe.
She declined to provide further details, saying a press release will be issued later Friday. The Amber Alert has been canceled.

Just wanted to pop in and add a YAY!! on the girls being home!! :)

As for toque.....I always think of KOOK...to rhyme....& out west here on the prairie....you can't have just one....toque that is*L* brrrr...-50s sometimes...

Anyways so glad they are back home ....hope they catch these guys asap....

I lived in Elkhart for a year when I was a child, we used to love it when the horse and buggies passed by our house.
The first time I went through there, I saw horses tied to hitching posts at the stores, and buggies at the bank window! I loved it all. Did they have Shipshewanna then? The big flea market?

I watched it once and it looks so staged, I don't think it's real at all.

Breaking Amish=Faking Amish.

Chiming in one the toque discussion, first time I ever heard the term was from Canadian comedy team Bob & Doug McKenzie. Anyone remember "Take Off to the Great White North"?
Maybe it's more a regional thing? My nearly 90 year old mom calls them watchmens caps. A guy I used to work with called it a skully.

So happy these little girls are safe. I'm sure the whole town is elated, and all of us at WS too. Always love to hear good news!

Now I'm realizing something. I read it first to mean they were dropped off in a house. But I realize they were dropped off at a house, probably. Seems like the kidnappers got spooked and just dumped them.

Yeah, it's well know to be totally fake, which I why I never watched it, despite being very interested in Amish culture:

I just read "Plain Truth" by Jodi Picoult on my Nook. While it is fiction, it opened my eyes to the life and beliefs of the Plain Amish. (It was a good read too, and I recommend it!) :happydance:

I usually read historical novels but was broke and it was only $1.99, LOL.

This case gave me a pretty weird feeling because the night before I opened the thread, I had watched the movie "The Shunning":

(okay I know .. it was a Hallmark movie )

OT but still on the toque/tuque issue. So, if toque rhymes with KOOK, how come not with BOOK or TOOK? If "BLOKE" I'm going to ask Justin Trudeau how he pronounces it .. he and Olympian Ross Reblagiati, Marc Emery .. Canadian dudes famous for smokin' their toques.

Actually in Canada, we just make stuff up as we go along. It keeps us interesting and makes people question our sanity :floorlaugh:

I am so glad they were found safe!I'd like add though that whoever did that composite of the little girl should be fired. They made her look like a little old toothless woman.:gaah:

The Stinsons opened their door to the two girls, DM, 6, and FM, 12, who asked the couple to drive them back home. The Stinsons said they recognized the girls because they had bought produce from them before and were aware of news reports about their abduction.

Just a little bit different from what was first reported and better explains why someone would just take the girls home and not immediately call the police (although I would have stilled called LE ASAP!!!)

Wow-per the above link:

At one point on the return home, the girls ducked in the back seat because they saw the kidnapper's red car pulled over by the side of the road, the friend said.

"Rain declined to say if police had identified the suspects, but said the investigation is "progressing."

“The investigation is answering some of those questions; I just can’t provide the answers at this point … we have directions from the young ladies on where to begin our search for these people, persons or people," Rain said.

It was not clear if the girls were targeted because of their Amish heritage. Rain said that "can't be ruled out" at this stage."

"The sisters were kidnapped from their family farm stand and police are seeking more than one person responsible, St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells said Friday. The two are now safe at home, and Wells said they provided information that is helping investigators.

Authorities weren't releasing any details about what happened to the girls during their daylong disappearance. They said they don't want to compromise a potential prosecution. Descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle are also being withheld"
