This is armchair and people have different opinions and give them. I feel I can take in what I want, mull it, and throw or keep what I wish.

Things have meaning to people based on their experiences.

For instance, I had never thought about teaching all people how to respond when stopped by the police. I have not received a speeding ticket for a few years, but it could happen again, maybe.

Here is one example...I made an erroneous comment when I implied Jodi suffered no discrimination...life taught me a lesson that very day, yesterday, I was more than happy to come back and share the experience AND correct my thinking on that matter. I had been wrong to assume Jodi didn't experience discrimination. The truth is, I have no idea what her experiences or perceptions are as far as racism. No one else knows either.

So I agree, life experiences are important. They are of no more importance here and than anyone else's. Nothing more than opinions.

Well stated! Psychology really is just a means of Creating terms for us to better discuss theories on the complexities of the human mind/behavior.

We would love to be able to digitize personalities from their analog form - set all the characteristics of a person to unwavering variables, blocked in with no excess frequency or distortion. We want to put individual personalities in a box so we can better try to predict not just their future behavior, but the behavior of those within their similar typology.

But human behavior cannot be predicted. There can be no variable in an equation to represent the unstable element of human behavior. All we can do is look at the social norms of whatever setting/culture we at put in on this earth and judge abnormal behavior as it contrasts the normal behavior of that culture.es

So it is important to always take note of the cultural norms specifically where the person is from when determining whether their behavior is normal or abnormal.

I still love boxes:)

That's why I'd rather toss out the dsm and smack (really really hard) a "murderous psychopath" label on Jodi's forehead. :)

Hopefully we can find correlations that help us understand the causal factors of mental illness. I prefer looking at neuropsychology as a form of diagnosis for many mental disorders these days as much can be deduced from it not on the basis of theory, but physiological proof.

I do believe the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. I'll just point to pedophiles. I believe they are a perfect example.

I don't think human behavior and thought is so variable that it evades prediction. It's just unfortunate that Travis didn't have all the information on stalkers, or didn't heed it, because he may have been able to save his own life. Murderous behavior happens across all cultures and time and usually has the same old motivations.

I agree totally. That's where I mentioned in my comment about correlations between causal factors and the behavior.

And yes, we can predict the probability of future abnormal behavior by looking at life long patterns. Kind of like predicting the weather: if it rains the most every april, and it did this April, then it will probably rain the most next April.

If a person has manic episodes every 6 months, you can predict those episodes almost perfectly in the years to come.

Sorry I should have emphasized this aspect of my belief in predicting future abnormal behavior by correlating it to past patterns.

Thanks for the heads up!

OK so to get us all back on topic So this thread doesn't get the boot and bc our theories many times go through metamorphosis as we share ideas:

What do you think Jodi's psychological disorder is, if any?

What evidence of her past behavior made you come to this personal conclusion?

Thanks for any and all answers!

I can tick off enough boxes on Hare's research and his PCL-R to slap that label.... Right on her forehead...

http://www.pearsonassessments.com/HAIWEB/Cultures/en-us/Productdetail.htm?Pid=PAapclr&Mode=summary

Factor 1: Personality "Aggressive narcissism"
Glibness/superficial charm
Grandiose sense of self-worth
Pathological lying
Cunning/manipulative
Lack of remorse or guilt
Shallow affect (genuine emotion is short-lived and egocentric)
Callousness; lack of empathy
Failure to accept responsibility for his or her own actions
Factor 2: Case history "Socially deviant lifestyle."
Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom
Parasitic lifestyle
Poor behavioral control
Lack of realistic long-term goals
Impulsivity
Irresponsibility
Juvenile delinquency
Early behavior problems

The parasitic lifestyle evades me. She did work.

As far as wanting to make a quick buck, so did all of the people in PPL. That is the whole point of PPL.

She does not have one. She is Axis II, from what I have seen. THere are just way too many examples to cite honestly, so all I can do is link the dx criteria for borderline personality disorder. Maybe there are others thrown in, but I see no evidence of any chemical mental illness.

Thank you for citing the source for other users.

Could you give a specific example of her past behavior next to all of those characteristics listed above? I just want people to be able to see exactly how you are attributing each characteristic to her by giving example.

Ie:

Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom -
She seems very bored on the interrogation videos. She even stands on her head possibly to stimulate herself in some way. She also seemed bored bc she was singing and sighing, as if she was unaffected by the severity of the situation.

Sorry I just am trying to help us all consolidate our theories to better discuss and stay on track. :)

Ty Linda!

P.s. I also think she is a psychopath (I just also think she has another disorder as well)

As far as wanting to make a quick buck, so did all of the people in PPL. That is the whole point of PPL.

She was basically squatting in Bobby's home...(she bought him some food according to her) She stopped paying her share on the home she had with with Daryl and she was living off her grandparents....trying desperately to worm her way into Travis's home.

She worked, except for when she didn't and bounced from one job to the next. She never was independent. It was never her plan either. IMO her plan was to be a parasite....if not Travis, obviously some other man.

Nothing wrong with wanting to make a quick buck PPL ..but it takes work ethic and dedication. She had neither.

What aspects of borderline PD do you think her behavior mimicked in your opinion?

Very interested in your ideas here! :)

I would love to attribute each characteristic ....I'll do that later tonight. I gotta hop off in a few minutes.

Is that the only one that troubles you?

My goodness, I had no idea there were so many classifications of disorders. I am afraid I may have a few of these. LOL

I voted she had Sociopath with Borderline Personality Disorder and she also has Narcisistic PD.

I actually voted first and then looked at the results and see that those 2 are what most people agree she has, so I was glad that I seemed to vote in agreement with others.
I dont have any real knowledge of what qualifies someone with any of these, but those 2 descriptions sure do seem to fit her based on her behavior in court and on the interviews, and from what we heard from other witnesses about her.

yes she did work but was she ever self-supporting? i think she always lived with a boyfriend or a roommate. many young people do, of course, and Travis even had roommates. but wasn't Travis allowing roommates more out of a desire to help people not because he needed the $$ for help paying the mortgage? i dunno i am just asking....by the time i was 24 i was tired of having a roommate and I could afford my own place by myself so that's what i did. Lived by myself and paid all my bills myself.

Most of them. Of course they all overlap to some degree so even if this is wrong, she is likely at least another one or a combo of them, IMO
Extreme reactions—including panic, depression, rage, or frantic actions—to abandonment, whether real or perceived
A pattern of intense and stormy relationships with family, friends, and loved ones, often veering from extreme closeness and love (idealization) to extreme dislike or anger (devaluation)
Distorted and unstable self-image or sense of self, which can result in sudden changes in feelings, opinions, values, or plans and goals for the future (such as school or career choices)
Recurring suicidal behaviors or threats or self-harming behavior, such as cutting
Intense and highly changeable moods, with each episode lasting from a few hours to a few days
Chronic feelings of emptiness and/or boredom
Inappropriate, intense anger or problems controlling anger

Those are the ones I see in her, from her words, what her parents said in the videos.
