Not much. Antivirus software has to constantly update its signature database that's used to identify and eliminate viruses and malware. The discrepancy indicates the difference in this database between 2008 and 2014. Jrabbit holeSS needs to get a grip. We're on a slow boat to China and there is no excuse, damnit.

I don't speak that language and can only apply common sense. Databases may increase number of viruses etc to search for, but this HD copy has been inactive since June 11, 2008. No new viruses to report.

Not sure, but I don't think your answer covers discrepancy.

It depends, if this Tony is the tech who did the initial work on TA's HD and his HD shows that he uses this program, then yes although Tony's HD has nothing to do with this case, it can show the modus operandi.

But why would he care what was done to a hard drive that had nothing to do with case? He seems to be the only one actually focused on issues pertinent to the case. If he brings something up there's a good reason for it, as bizarre as it seems.

I commented about that in the first trial. DF's brother committed suicide the day CMJA was arrested.< coincidence. DF DID talk to CMJA in jail about it.

Dan Freemans brother died on July 22, 2008. Four days before his 22nd birthday.

Ironically, Jodi Arias was actually indicted on July 9, 2008 on her 29th birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Biotch ! She was not however, actually arrested until July 15, 2008 ??
That confused me, so I googled it.

There are about 2 to 5% of defendants, who are under direct indictment, which is a secret proceeding where the person will not know, unfortunately, until the police come up to their door and say, “We have a warrant for your arrest, based on a grand jury’s findings.”

No new viruses need be there. They may simply have been invisible to the software used to detect them in 2008. Does that make it clearer?

Damn. She sadly had enough time to get rid of even more evidence. And hide what the cops hadn't managed to find.

moot point here, - but I still really, really want to know how HER hd's were destroyed. Smashed with a hammer? Run over in the driveway? Thrown in the washing machine or just a bucket of water and bleach? (Maybe that's why she thought the washer at TA's would work on the camera?) Just really want to know.....

I have a difficult time believing updated databases account for the discrepancy. Its a huge one. Jmo.

I also think JM would have swatted BN down on this discrepancy if it were that simple. But, who knows.

I hate hate spam! Are you dealing with it at the server level as well? Your business' hosting provider might be able to help you by using SpamAssasin or a similar package for your domain.

Agree, too many installed a/v programs will conflict with one another, defeat their purpose and actually let more through. For suspicious e-mails, if it's available use 'View Message Source' instead of opening the e-mail, that way you won't activate any viruses that may be included in the mail. Most are ususally links to crapsites but some do contain viruses/trojans that activate upon opening the mail

FWIW---

BN states that he found 44 viruses and 250 malware programs on the copy he examined.

JM's motion in limine says that on the copy made on June 11, 2008, 24 viruses and 17 malware programs were found.

That's obviously a huge discrepancy. Wonder what it means?

So far, I have yet to hear anyone directly involved in this speaking in a clear manner which would explain things. Imagine how the judge must feel!

From JM's motion in limine, I assumed (which is always dangerous) that he had his experts go back an analyze the original image, this time specifically looking for virus and malware, both quarantined and active. This might explain why no virus were found initially and then he cites numbers found in the motion in limine. Or it could be that the initial examination did not even include a search for virus/malware.

Per BN, now TA's computer had 44 virus, 250 malware programs and 19, 22 or 29 AV/scrubber/privacy programs on it. I doubt they were all active on 6/4/2008; can you just imagine how slow that computer must have been? To that point, this may explain why there was a hard shut down of the computer on 6/19/2009- anything that loaded could have frozen or hung the operating system.

Back in 2008, a lot of virus/malware did come via email. Often an initial infection would lead to another site to further infect a computer, often under the guise of AV/scrubber programs to help the user fix the problem, only to end up with more of a mess. Sounds like Travis was not really experienced or knowledgeable about protecting his computer, recognizing problems and then correcting them. Consider that he thought Jodi was hacking into his accounts, but it seems that he was not proactive in changing things so that she could not get back into those accounts. I know a lot of people have speculated that she may have put a key stroke logger program on his computer...who knows, maybe we'll find out more about this in the whole porngate matter.

From a legal perspective, I do find it interesting that in an evidentiary hearing, the judge does not take a more proactive role in directing the flow of information so as to get the facts to be able to render a decision.

Kasperky labs (antivirus company) reports detecting 315,000 new malicious files a day in 2013. There is an inevitable time lag between the time a virus is created and propagated and antivirus software is able to detect and deal with it. Technically, antivirus databases are obsolete almost immediately. The number of detected files on Travis' hard drive in 2008 vs 2014 is not surprising at all.

Zoomom, we know, as you suspect, that Travis did use his home office mail server to mass email for PPL because of the badly mistaken testimony of Dr. Fonseca. She asserted Travis was writing to an eight year old & was in error, as demonstrated by Juan Martinez. You probably remember the exposure, so I won't go into more detail.

Geevee, did you see the home office call log, page 19 # 467?

Thanks, Tuba! I remember. That's what made me think about incoming mass spam emails as well as outgoing mass emails.

If the Twitterers and BK have accurately relayed BN's testimony in the hearings so far, he is saying that Mesa PD and Lonnie Dworkin didn't look at the registry. That's crazy, I cannot imagine that they didn't. I would so love to hear from Lonnie Dworkin.

ETA: Do note that the Windows registry can be edited. It can even be edited by viruses and malware.
Including Spybot. BN lied about this.

:gaah: Maybe it was the day CMJA was taken to Phx in chains from Yrecka? I know there's some connection between the day of his death and something "noteworthy" happening to da killer.
And her B-date plays heavily on this "young girl" business the DT totes......OMG, a lousy month shy of her 29th b-day. In Mormon circles she was an old maid. Seriously. Most LDS women are married and have 2-3 kids by then. CMJA had been "playing house" with men for 12 years already, just didn't have the ring or the kids........and the husband, house, mortgage, job, education, etc., etc., that most 29 year olds have.

I still think it's incredibly funny that CMJA was offended because Travis didn't give her any "snaps" for editing.........like REALLY? "Kudos" to a High School dropout? Get a life, CMJA, you're just not All That and a bag of chips. :floorlaugh:

Somewhat of a late comer, the Wrongly Convicted website posted their own update on the case: "retrial delayed 3 weeks to September 29, 2014 after Jodi won motion to continue trial on 20 August. Death penalty retrial starts Tuesday, 21st October." Now August 20 was the day Judge Stephens granted her access to the case evidence at Mesa P.D. and accommodation for her other expert. None of that is mentioned in this account, simply the win for their Jodi and a seeming celebration of another blasted lengthy delay. The black sheathed hand is active at least as much as Nurmi's in applying desired drag on this mini? trial.

There you are, geevee! The Travis cell phone record is paltry. It was located in the home office & its call log registered the last communication as 12:13 p.m. on June 4, 2008: a text to Chris Hughes. Flores inquired whether Hughes rec'd it and he did, indeed. There were further incoming calls and texts, thereafter and all went unanswered. As far as I know, the identities of the persons making these calls & texts were never published.

:) Thanks for alerting me to this post upthread Tuba, I completely missed it. I wish we could get the detail from his computer of usage between the last text to CH and the last known use of laptop, now that we know 'someone' was on his computer at 1:44 running Spybot, I just wonder if there was consistent computer usage from that point until 4:54. I suppose it's obvious, I don't believe a whit of her story of what transpired that day and I personally would like it if JM would track every known activity to show she is lying about all of it.
