I've seen Mitigation Specialists at work before especially in the KC trial. They were well-mannered, dressed appropriately etc. I've never seen such an uncouth and vulgar specialist before. It is disturbing to see her attach herself to a murderer in such a bizarre fashion. The jurors must have noticed the two yapping away as though this were a 5th grade classroom.

Trying to intimidate her. Doubt it will work.

She's had years of training in dealing with difficult people. Bring on the stupid questions like what is trauma. Seems to me the definition should have been in his opening statement but better late than never...right LOL? This is all mitigation and the jury has nothing better to do than listen to Nurmi suck back his saliva while fondling his chin.

Nurmi lingers over definitions of borderline personality disorder in his questions for DeMarte. #jodiarias

DeMarte says she prefers "psychological disorder" to "mental illness."

Nurmi says, "You understand, I don't care about your preferences..."

:gaah::gaah: :gaah:

What is he thinking being so hateful? How can he possibly think this helps his client? I am sure the jurors by now hate him as much as his convicted murdering defendant.

The instability of her folks marriage- dad working a lot, not being nice to wife about her weight or understanding- if they were unhappy with each other could be enough to trigger this. A young mother not attending to an infants needs appropriately could trigger this as well, from what I understand, as well as the temperament of the infant or child too.

And loss of income for family; if Jodi was spoiled as a family member said, and she was use to getting what she wanted...then had to adjust to change in lifestyle, move and begin to share with new siblings, maybe that fryed her little brain.

:happydance:BK posted some BPD people are born that way and some are environmentally caused. Yes! She was born evil! I said this months ago.

DeMarte says that BPD could develop in those who are genetically predisposed if the person's feelings are continuously invalidated.

Is there any proof of those things other than JA's word? If anything, I would bet that any problems they may have had in their marriage came from having to deal with JA on a daily basis. Once she moved out I imagine that any and all tension in that household (unless one of her siblings is just like her) went away with her.

MOO

You are absolutely correct. My point was more to the fact that the triggers can be simple NON ABUSIVE situations and also about how the infant or child perceives or feels things due to their own temperament.

DeMarte says yes and researchers think some kind of environmental factor can trigger it #jodiarias #3tvarias

I guess since the only evidence of the possibility of those things came from CMJA, known liar, I put them to the side. But, if they were true, they could have had an impact.

Nurmi- So this is more than not being paid attention too by a parent this is a lot more right?
DeMarte- Right #jodiarias #3tvaris

DeMarte- The environment one grows up in where the persons feelings aren't validated can trigger Borderline Personality #jodiarias #3tvarias

still don't justify what she has done and continues to do

IMO she appears to have been a brat, bully, self absorbed person since tweens..How much is a result of poor boundaries and limits during child rearing aka spoiling and no discipline..who knows.. and how much is JA developing a personality that " I know best, it's all about me , and others are my lessors".who knows..I certainly don't care. There are many many folks out there who never cross that line.
Again I say this is not an excuse for criminal behavior..Knowing right from wrong is the key for me. BTW how many murders or murderesses are " normal" as they say..

RE: BPD being a Mental illness.. In the verbage being used it is..It is under Axis II- personality disorders...Not an excuse ..Axis II examples: BPD; explosive personality disorder, sociopathic personality d/o
Axis I- are the schizophrenia, bi polar, major depression , etc ..

JMO from being a MH casemanager for 22 years

actually, doesn't new DSM eliminate the axis lingo?

Nurmi is as aggressive today as Juan Martinez usually is during cross examination. #jodiarias

But that is because Juan is usually cross-examining idiots like LaViolette, Fonseca, Geffner and Samuels. (Maybe I should give Geffner a little break . . . NAH!)

Jen's Trial Diaries @TrialDiariesJ · 21s 21 seconds ago
Was Jodi's environment one that she didn't get validation?
DeMarte- From what Jodi told me yes #jodiarias #3tvarias

key words. 'from what JODI told me'

lie lie lieees

Nurmi- So this is more than not being paid attention too by a parent this is a lot more right? DeMarte- Right #jodiarias #3tvaris

and the jury is thinking my parents told me that same thing and I don't have BPD

DeMarte and Nurmi use the phrase "invalidating environment." #jodiarias

Michael Kiefer @michaelbkiefer · 4s 4 seconds ago

Nurmi asks DeMarte for examples of invalidating environment in #jodiarias' background. DeMarte says Arias and parents did not agree.

DeMarte: And when parents don't understand why the child is upset and say "stop it," it perpetuates the environment. #jodiarias
