All tips and information should be called to 911 or to 843-457-5747

There's also an email direct to the family, but really, why would you send it to them? I haven't, even though they've asked.

I might send to family IN ADDITION to calling tipline & informing BOTH parties I'm doing so :moo:

That phone number is NOT LE. I was told by the police to call the number I posted. I gave him that number, he said that is not a LE number, I have no idea why they are giving that out, please call us.

hockeymom4, I'm sorry. I should have taken the number off the poster. I will edit my post if you will please edit the quote.

If you don't like a post, skip it...if you think it violates TOS, report it.
But lecturing other posters is a violation, as far as I know. JMO

Not sure why people think it should be so easy for LE to solve MP cases. Most times, there is nothing to show if a crime has even been committed and we know how difficult it is to try to figure out where a body might be, even with a POI, much less without one. Very few LE agencies have much success, IMO, without confessions or just plain luck.

Thank you! Exactly! Can you imagine all of the people arrested, just because of rumor and innuendo? There isn't going to be an arrest in this case until Heather is found. IMO!

Fabricating evidence is not going to help either.

Wanna be detectives should at least know that much! :twocents:

Okay now... frankly I am disgusted and appalled with 99% of you right now. Even after following this case, sitting here websleuthing, getting the thread shut down NUMEROUS times because of jumping back and forth with stuff posted on fb and rumors and the unredacted police report. When people were derogatory to members of this forum for being "armchair detectives" you all got so mad. And most of you don't even live here. You don't know and see and hear the stuff that is going on in the community because it isn't allowed to be discussed.

But god forbid two people who had been helping from the start get arrested and you turn like a pack of hyenas! You don't KNOW what they supposedly "falsified," the only fact we know on here is that they were trying to help and find heather and that when they got in trouble for doing the same thing you all are you throw them under the bus. Even Heather's father is standing up for them, but you all have turned into the very mob you are bashing now.

It is just so hurtful to see you all doing this. These are PEOPLE. REAL PEOPLE. You say they act like they're filming a reality show, but they're not. So stop treating it like they're characters.

I'm just so sad and sick right now with you all, with MC, with everyone.

Agreed. After seeing how unfounded the charges were last week against a certain celebrity that I shall not name -it seems like charges can be made up just as easily as gossip on facebook. IMO

Thank you. Now if Snowyowl could do the same please?

I would not give any tip or info to the family. I don't trust Heather's Dad to not act on it. I did the same with Rodney Stafford, and I knew he would go through the motions. I still admire him keeping his cool and keeping his mouth shut.

LE needs to clarify what these men did to warrant arrest. I worry that this will discourage volunteers in this and all missing person cases from getting involved. If they are truly guilty, then shame on them. If LE is blowing this out of proportion, then shame on them too.

I am speaking general..... What if the person running the tip line is the person responsible for the disappearance? Just thinking about if Scott Peterson had set one up and people called him. If he knew ppl were on to him, he could have changed things or moved things or got rid of evidence. NoT suggesting that is happening here. I just think it is odd. I don't like that my phone number is now in the hands of someone else.

People have no business taking tips Imo, in any kind of case. They should always go straight to LE. I get the feeling tips might be "investigated" before turning them over, or maybe even some are held back from LE, based on the decision of one or a few citizens. Too much emotion, etc...and just a really bad practice IMO.

CarolinaAsh - agree with you 100%.

Also, whether they are guilty or not, this could really damage people's willingness to get involved in missing person's cases in the future.

LE runs tip lines.

Unless people choose a different route.

Not in this case. There are two "tip lines." The number on the poster, which is a LE number and is being handled by LE. The other number is not being handled by LE. It is the "family" and the family has asked for people to call this number. I have never seen anything handled this way. Tips should not be directed to the family.

JMO, but allowing a missing person SM to receive public comments is setting up things to go off the rails.

If everyone would direct tips to LE, and let them sort it out, who might be setting up whom would be less of an issue.

There are too many people stirring pots.

Agree. Facebook is not the correct forum to use for obtaining info on a missing person.

this may be a crazy thot, but if LE has kept all this info close to the vest (no pressers),how do we KNOW any info was FALSE? Their word only??
I only say that because if tips were "false" maybe they should specify what is false so everyone could stop speculating.
<snipped>

Someone else said it better than I, so let me quote them...

I feel so badly for Heather. And LE has enough to do without having to herd players who are making up their own rules.

Law Enforcement are extremely highly trained professionals. Even though many people have disagreed with the time window and lack of press release or media event, trust me they know everything and then some. It is best to let them do what they are trained to do and or do what you can do by their guidance. Hint Cue Search!!! This is a perfect example.

That is why I said... Tips should go to LE!!

"A police report says the first suspect made a post on Facebook stating that indictments were coming for a person and that the Department of Social Services were coming to take that person's children.

"This created a community reaction that diverted investigating officers," the report said. The report also said the suspect told a witness he was investigating the incident for the victim's family. Police said in the report the questioning was an attempt to access confidential information about the ongoing law enforcement investigation.

The suspect also conducted an independent search of a location in Horry County that revealed potential evidence and didn't immediately report it to investigating officers, according to the report."

Obstruction of Justice n. an attempt to interfere with the administration of the courts, the judicial system or law enforcement officers, including threatening witnesses, improper conversations with jurors, hiding evidence, or interfering with an arrest. Such activity is a crime.

Just asking: Is lying to LE equal to obstruction of Justice?

All MOO
