This is now the most anxiety ridden part of the trial - waiting for the verdict.

Trials are exhausting for the attorneys. They all looked pooped.

Jurors will first take a vote. Even if they all vote guilty, they will wait for their free supper and then come back.

To me, he seemed like he wasn't feeling well. Like, physically ill or hungover or something. He really phoned it in.
He did remark yesterday that the pollen was affecting his allergies. Could be allergy meds may have him processing a little bit slower. I don't think he looks as sickly as DH. DH looks to me like he could drop over any day now from heart failure. jmo

I hesitate to post this because I don't have a specific cite for it. I had assumed for quite awhile that Maggie stayed at Edisto Beach the night of June 6 into the morning of June 7. That assumption was based on the idea that Alex had requested that she come to Moselle that day. On February 15, I posted that based on the testimony that day it appeared that my assumption was wrong and that Maggie had actually stayed at Moselle that night (before driving to a doctors appointment that day). I don't have time to go through all of the testimony that day, and there may be something more definitive than this but here is Owen asking Alex about the morning of the 7th. At 1:54:53.

Yes, I agree was sketchy from the beginning getting anyone (other than AM) to confirm whether or not MM spent Sunday night at Moselle but I think it was S/A Rudofski that testified that MM spent the night at Moselle.

We know she called AM around 10:52 AM -- unanswered which I think was while driving to Edisto and SLED's official timeline has MM arriving in Edisto not long after:

12:17:55 PM – Maggie Murdaugh’ s Mercedes Benz (TRJ292) hits on ALPR “TEBPD IN” Edisto (ALPR)

12:17 PM- 7:04 PM – Maggie Murdaugh’ s iPhone was unplugged from a charging source (MM Extraction)

12:31 PM- 12:35 PM – Maggie Murdaugh’ s iPhone shows Wi-Fi connection SSID: Murdaughedisto (MM Extraction)

AM too, IMO. Their suits seem oversized and not cut from the greatest cloth for prominent men (shiny looking, boxy), but maybe that's the style around there. It's reminiscent of the massive suit David Byrne of The Talking Heads wore on their Stop Making Sense Tour.

MOO
I think the stress. Looks like weight loss for both. Particularly AM

Could you imagine after this long trial walking into the jury room and basically immediately realizing that there is no way agreement could be reached and it will be hung?

No. And that's the main reason I'm glad I'm not there. I'm not Zen enough to handle it well, although my overall method would be to scribble on paper and stare off into space. Maybe do some chair yoga.

I was a hold out on the last jury I was on (there were two of us). When the other one flipped, it didn't take me long to flip too (it was a fairly minor charge and there were things we jurors didn't know until after the trial - but I am not proud that I flipped; if I known that the charge that I thought fit the crime had the same sentence as the charge of which the man was convicted, I am not sure what I would have done - I was basically in error by thinking one charge was less serious).

But my dissatisfaction with myself comes from the fact that I flipped, even though in my mind, that was increasing the man's sentence when I thought he should be found guilty - if at all - of a lesser charge. The jury foreman was a bully. I was the only one who took notes and I was complained about to the bailiff (who said it was okay; judge said it was okay). The notes I took in the jury room had to stay in the jury room of course, but I'd taken notes throughout the trial.

If a jury knows from the start that they have to be there for days - probably into next week while spinning their wheels, ah, man, that's tough.

hmmm...more security and brother and BM looking to have eye contact...he doesnt look for them.

edited to add: he keeps bobbing his head at his small cheering section (not BM and his brother) before he is turned around and escorted out.

Just like always, they served their purpose. It is time to find others to exploit. Sorry but it is the way I feel. JMHO.

I think what seems to bother me most here is Alex's lack of concern for his dead wife and son. How many of us total strangers on the internet have wept tears for his wife and son? Hearing the lawyer give his rebuttal caused me to tear up. I can feel what Maggie must have felt or at least try to and the thought is just unimaginable that she saw her baby like that. Then when I listen to Alex explain anything about that night, the days after, the reason for his lies and it all is just without real emotions.. I feel no genuine pull to weep for his suffering and I am pretty empathetic.. I can usually feel sorry for people even when they are the root of all of their problems. I just see and hear a man that is acting like he thinks he should. I think if he felt remorse at all then we could still feel that from him when he's talking about it.. I don't feel that from him.. I feel like I'm watching my child try to talk their way out of something and cry so I feel sorry for them and forget about it. Just IMO, but this is what bothers me because even if his motive was he had no way out that he could see.. I would expect some type of genuine sadness they are gone so maybe some genuine emotion could seep out of him.

My view of the “motive” evidence is that it’s more useful purpose goes to the credibility of AM. The State didn’t know he would take the stand, but the gamble paid off because it gave the State more leeway with witnesses on direct and cross. The lovely and smart judge said multiple times in response to defense objections “goes to credibility”. With that amount of compulsive serial lying in his past the jury can presume everything AM’s testified to was a lie. It’s a fine line - the jurors can’t jump from he ran a ponzi scheme so he must have also done murders. But the evidence goes to motive and credibility, and Newman emphasized that during his rulings. I think Meadors wove that in masterfully today - “the defense would have you believe Alex was the only person not lying…”. Whaaaaat? Record scratch! I thought that was a great common sense zinger rising out of the fog and eclipse.

That sounds right. She went from Moselle to Edisto, then to doctor's, and was originally planning to go back to Edisto.
