Moselle, the South Carolina estate that was home to the Murdaugh family prior to attorney Alex Murdaugh's murder of his wife and son, is back on the market, with the 4-bedroom home listed for $1.95 million.

The listing is a carve-out of the Murdaugh's larger estate, which sold for $3.9 million earlier this year and included 1,700 acres. But the new offer only includes 21 acres and the primary Murdaugh residence, the Moselle Estate House, which the listing says could serve as a "a family residence or compound" or allow new buyers to engage in "equestrian pursuits, [a] hobby farm, or just a weekend retreat destination."

The kennels, where Alex Murdaugh, once a prominent lawyer in South Carolina, killed his wife and younger son, aren't included in the new sale, according to listing agent Crosby Land Company.

Appeals court allows Alex Murdaugh to argue for new trial because of possible jury tampering

Updated 12:15 PM EDT, October 17, 2023

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — An appeals court in South Carolina is allowing Alex Murdaugh to ask a judge to throw out his murder convictions and life sentence and get a new trial after his lawyers accused the court clerk in his trial of influencing the jury.

The one-paragraph decision Tuesday likely opens the door for a full hearing where witnesses who would have to testify under oath could include Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill, the jurors who deliberated a few hours after the six-week trial and even Judge Clifton Newman, widely praised for overseeing the case.

A time and place or the scope of the hearing will be determined later.

But even if his conviction is overturned, Murdaugh won’t walk out of prison. He pleaded guilty last month to financial crimes for stealing millions of dollars from needy personal injury clients and a settlement for the family of his longtime maid who died in a fall at his home.

As expected earlier today, the South Carolina Court of Appeals agreed to stay and hold in abeyance Alex Murdaugh’s appeal from his double murder conviction of March 2023, and remanded the issue of whether he is entitled to a new trial based on juror interference issues to the trial court in front of Judge Newman. This was totally expected. The issues raised by Team Murdaugh are serious and significant IF TRUE and that is a big IF, that a determination needs to be made regarding their validity. Juror interference is unacceptable and goes to the heart of our jury trial system. Judge Newman will make a determination on how this matter will proceed. The defense will argue that they are entitled to full discovery rights to depose, and or subpoena the testimony from jurors and other witnesses. Whether that is going to be granted will have to be seen. I am interested in seeing how the attorney general will weigh in on this decision and give their take on what the procedure going forward should look like. Based on ’s several in and out of court statements about Judge Newman, it would not surprise me if the defense makes a motion for another judge to entertain their motion for new trial and argue that Judge Newman is in conflict. This is about to get real interesting. The rubber will hit the road. I am quite certain that the attorney general’s office is prepared and loaded for bear to refute Team Murdaugh’s contentions. Drama, Drama and more Drama. EB

It was a no brainer that defense would get their evidentiary hearing. But good luck getting Judge Newman to give you a new trial! Nevertheless, the hearing is gonna be GOOOOOOD! IMO this whole kerfuffle will fall flat!

But what if they take the decision away from Judge Newman? They could recuse him and then it's a new ball game. o_O

If they overturn the conviction and give him a new trial, can he be released on bail?

Someone please refresh my memory; has Alex Murdaugh been sentenced yet for the financial crimes? I know that he plead guilty but has he been sentenced? I've been involved with other threads.
Is there anyway he can be granted bail?
A few weeks ago (Sept 21), AM admitted in federal court to 22 counts of financial fraud and money laundering but he's not been sentenced yet. Unlike most state courts, sentencing in US District Court is not upon conviction but months later. The plea deal calls for the prosecutor to ask the Court for his sentence to run at the same time as any prison term he serves in State court. No sentencing date has been set.

AM still faces about 100 different financial/insurance fraud charges in State Court.

“She asked jurors about their opinions about Mr. Murdaugh’s guilt or innocence. She instructed them not to believe evidence presented in Mr. Murdaugh’s defense, including his own testimony. She lied to the judge to remove a juror she believed might not vote guilty. And she pressured jurors to reach a guilty verdict quickly so she could profit from it,” defense attorneys Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian wrote.

The attorneys called Tuesday’s ruling welcome news. “We intend to proceed expeditiously and will seek a full blown evidentiary hearing,” they said in a statement.

Harpootlian never lets anything go, just rewatch the trial as he drones on and on and on.

MOO

His droning on and on imo is not helpful to his decision to be a litigator. He's not very engaging and doesn't possess the presence that a jury seeks. This is moo, but I think your comment supports it. If you were on the jury, he would have lost you just for this. So, not helpful.

Moo, no. Wasn't he already sentenced on the Federal financial crimes charges?
Yes, he plead guilty to 22 charges, but sentencing hasn't been scheduled yet.

Murdaugh agreed to plead guilty to 22 charges in all: one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud; one count of bank fraud; five counts of wire fraud; one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud; and 14 counts of money laundering.

The charges carry a maximum punishment of 20 years in federal prison, with some carrying a maximum of 30 years.

US District Court Judge Richard Gergel accepted and signed the plea agreement between Murdaugh and federal prosecutors. Gergel will determine federal sentencing for Murdaugh at a later date.

^^bbm

At this stage, not likely. For example, while AM was previously granted bail, he was unable to post his $$$$ bond. Also, he's likely to be sentenced for his federal charges long before his verdict can be overturned.

Murdaugh has been in jail at the Richland County Detention Center since October of 2021 as he was unable to post his multimillion-dollar bond.
