Did she know there was no gas in the car? The gas gauge was broken, was it not?
From everything I have heard and read, she ran out of gas at that intersection and the car was pushed into Amscot. Unless the car stopped or broke down for another reason other than gas, but unlikely you are hoping for it to be stolen unless you hope the car thief is also a mechanic.
George took gas to the tow yard so he could drive the car home. Either he was told it was empty or he assumed it ran out of gas (and abandoned) which led to it being towed.
I don't recall if anyone turned the engine over at the tow yard to ascertain if it was driveable or if they unhitched it and left it untouched.
Absolutely, Casey could of driven it to Amscot and parked right beside the dumpster in the hope it was stolen and lied saying it ran out of gas. However from all I have heard and read, running out of gas was not disputed.
Unless you know the story another way...?
