The family of a woman whose remains were found in a septic tank almost 40 years after she went missing said she was "kind and caring".

In a statement, her family said: "The disappearance of Brenda devastated our family.

"She was kind and caring and has been greatly missed.

"We, her surviving family, are thankful that Brenda was found and that we were able to lay her to rest with her parents in a place of security, calm and dignity.

"The family would now request that our privacy is respected so that we can come to terms with recent developments and grieve in peace."

I'm hoping he lives for at least another 10 years so he can enjoy as much time in prison as possible. Hopefully he'll die in there, although prison will still be better than a septic tank which is what his dear wife had.
RIP Brenda, and let's hope justice prevails this month in court for you.

Tuesday, May 4th, 1982 is when her husband said she went missing.

This is a oft-repeated quote (bbm):
The disappearance of Mrs Venables remains one of Worcestershire’s biggest mysteries. Two days after she went missing Mr Venables told this paper he had been waiting anxiously by his phone, hoping for news.
‘I woke up to find that she had gone’ - how we reported on Brenda Venables' disappearance in 1982

…so did he wait 2 days to report her missing? By all accounts he was out with the search parties once he called the police.

The alleged offences occurred between 2 May 1982 and 5 May 1982. He had a pig farm…so : ( …he may have killed her on May 2nd, disposed of he remains with the animals, then moved the bones to to septic tank by the 4th, and waited two days then reported her ‘missing’. Speculation.

The 1982 article states that Mrs Venables has now been missing for 48 hours - so the article must be dated Thursday May 6. ( based on DVs claim that Brenda * was gone* on Tuesday May 4 ).
The article also states that the police helicopter had been searching - yesterday - so he must have reported her missing at the very latest by Wednesday May 5.

I think I have mentioned this earlier on the thread, but Monday May 3 was a bank holiday in the UK. Potentially there would have been no farm workers or staff at the farm over that long week end and no usual business being carried out on the Monday. Therefore DV could have killed Brenda over that week end ( we have never been told when the last independent sighting of Brenda occured ) and was then able to use those 3 days to dispose of her body ( I agree re the pigs ) . He then had to report her missing on Tuesday May 4 as the working week began again and her absence would be noted.

Will be most interesting to hear what they have to say

Adjourning the case after the 20-minute hearing, the Recorder of Worcester, Judge James Burbidge QC, told Venables: “You may remain seated. Your case is going to be adjourned for trial on the charge of murder.

“You will be tried by a jury of 12 people at this Crown Court.

That will take place on the 7th of June 2022. You will be released on bail on the same terms as you were released by the Recorder of Birmingham.”
