Very clear that most on here believe that Lucy is guilty.

Does anyone believe she is innocent or has concerns about the conviction?

We don't want Letby to know the damage she's left, say parents

More from the parents of baby N, who Letby tried to kill. Their statement is being read to the court.
"We believe baby N has lasting damage as a result of the injuries he sustained," saying that he can be sick when he’s eating, coughing or running around, which can be caused by trauma to the throat.
"He's just turned seven years old. We still have a camera watching him sleep. We are extremely protective... We wanted him to be home schooled as we didn't want anybody else looking after him.
"We do everything possible to keep him safe now. If that means wrapping him up in cotton wool then that is what we will do. We know we smother him with love and affection. We don't give him boundaries, because we don't want him to be sad and upset."
The mother of baby N says that possibility of going back into the neonatal unit stopped them having any more children. "We don't want her [Letby] to know the damage that she's left... or get any satisfaction from the hurt she's caused."

'We often hear about people dying of a broken heart. This is how we feel after this day'

A statement by the mother of Child N, a baby boy born with haemophilia, is now being read to the court. Letby tried to murder the newborn by injecting him with air and thrusting a nasogastric tube down his throat. It was an “utterly catastrophic” scene as doctors tried to save their little boy, she says, and has left a “lasting imprint” on their lives.
We often hear about people dying of a broken heart. This is how we feel after this day … not a day go by without us thinking of that day.
The mother says she “knew” her child had been deliberately harmed – she doesn’t know if it was common sense or a mother’s instinct. “But I just knew.”
This caused us massive trust issues which has remained with us to this day and I don’t think will ever leave us.
The mother says she believes Child N, now aged seven years, suffered “lasting damage” from Letby’s attack and is undergoing investigations to establish this. He gags whenever brushing his teeth, she says, which may be due to the throat trauma he suffered at the hands of Letby, when he was only a day old.

The little boy is home-schooled “because our trust in other people has been completely broken”, his mother says.
We couldn’t keep him safe in hospital. As a parent it’s your duty … this was taken away from us in a place where he was at his safest … It’s our duty now and if that means wrapping him in cotton wool, then that is what we will do.
Child N’s mother says she was “happy and relieved” when they were told that they were part of the police investigation. Finally they would receive some answers and be listened to, she adds.

They have discussed having another baby since Child N but the fear of going back into a hospital, and especially a neonatal unit, “has stopped us from doing so”.

The mother ends her statement by saying they thought long and hard about whether to talk about the impact of Letby’s crimes:

We don’t want her to know the damage she’s left … we didn’t want her to get any further satisfaction from the hurt that she’s caused.

'I remember saying thank you to nurse Letby after my son's death'

The court is now being played pre-recorded video of the statements by the parents of babies O and P, two triplet brothers who were murdered by Letby in June 2016.
The boys' mother says: "I started to blame myself. I thought I'd passed on an illness to all three of the boys... an infection.
"I only have one photo of me holding all three boys together but this was after [baby O] had passed.
"Nurse Letby was inconsolable after the death of [baby P] and I recall saying 'thank you'."
The boys' mother adds: "I have experienced panic attacks which have required medical intervention... the [third triplet] as he grows, is asking questions about his brothers.
Going through the "firsts" with the surviving triplet is very hard, she says.

11:28am

The mother said in June 2016, she was still recovering from the birth of her triplet boys, and it was "dififcult to put into words" when Child O passed away - it was "traumatic".
She said she was in "total shock and disbelief".
The following day, she felt more reassured when she saw the other two triplets. Child P later collapsed and the mother said she felt she blamed herself, thinking she had passed on some kind of illness.
She said she had to remain strong for the surviving triplet's sake, but had a "horrible feeling" he was next.
She says there was additional guilt that the extended family were unable to have any time of Child O.
She said it was a traumatic experience having to think of what should be written on Child O and Child P's gravestone. She said returning to the hospital, when another family member was admitted, gave her flashbacks.
The mother said she had a further child in 2017, and the parents had 'point-blank refused' to have the baby cared for at the Countess.
She says the time around June is always a difficult time to face.
She said she was initially asked to be a witness, and that meant she had to miss most of the trial, only for her not to be required as a witness at the last minute.
She says the court environment was "extremely harrowing", and she placed herself behind a monitor so she was not in the line of sight of Letby. Her first appearance was in March 2023.
She says having to come to terms with the police investigation has been "unbearable" and hates the fact Letby was the last person to hold Child O.

Putting aside the rights and wrongs of presence at sentencing not being mandatory, I'm actually glad LL choose the coward's way out here. This day belongs entirely to the grieving parents and they deserve every last bit of attention both in the courtroom and elsewhere.

Were LL present, she'd almost be a distraction, the media observing her, her reactions, commenting on her, diluting their reporting, taking the focus away from the only people that matter today.

In any case, were LL present, she'd either be sitting there stony-faced or crying. Who needs to see that.

I hate that Letby was last person to hold my baby son, says bereaved mum

The mother of babies O and P, two murdered boys who were part of a set of triplets, says the trial was the first time she had seen Letby since 2016.
The text messages that Letby sent about seeing [my sons] looking peaceful in their cots was very difficult, she says.
"I hate the fact that Lucy Letby was the last person to hold (baby P). She has destroyed our lives."

I decided not to follow this case after @Tortoise tipped me off to it last year, so just checking in after seeing the media firestorm.

I was kind of sceptical they'd get a verdict to be honest.

Crazy facts and as usual it is horrific that one person can do so much damage to an institution.

'I genuinely thought I had all the time in the world with all of them'

The court is being shown a video statement by the parents of two triplet boys, Childs O and P, who were murdered by Letby in June 2016. They wanted to read the statement in person, but did not feel able to do this in court, the prosecutor Astbury says.

Their mother says she remembers blaming herself, thinking she had passed on an illness or infection that caused her boys to struggle in their first day of life. In fact, they had been targeted by Letby.

She remembers the images of doctors resuscitating her two boys, saying they “continue to haunt me to this day”. She has only one photograph of her holding all of her triplet boys before two of them died.

The mother, struggling to contain tears, says their funeral was incredibly difficult and has left her with lasting trust issues towards any healthcare professional: “I categorically refuse to go to the Countess of Chester hospital ever again.”

She remembers calling 111 when the surviving triplet, who Letby was not accused of attacking, had an issue. The NHS operator asked about the health of his two brothers. The mother says she found it “incredibly difficult” to find the words to explain what had happened to them.

The boys’ mother says their surviving triplet, now seven, asks “heartbreaking questions” about what happened to his two murdered brothers.

I genuinely thought I had all the time in the world with all of them.
She describes the trial as “extremely harrowing” and says she sat in a position in court behind one of the monitors so she was not in view of Letby. It was the first time she had seen the nurse since her triplets were born in June 2016.

'I kept wishing it had happened to me', says dad whose two boys were killed

A video statement by the father of brothers O and P, who both died, is now being shown to the courtroom.
The dad talks about the time that they learned they were expecting triplets: "A specialist consultant informed us that it was extremely rare to see naturally conceived identical triplets.
"The team were happy with the births, and I was told how lucky we were... It was later that same day; we were both allowed to go and see the boys. We were so excited at how well the boys were doing and commented on how identical they were, it was almost impossible to tell them apart."
The father talks about the deterioration of baby O, saying: "I noticed the colour of [baby O]'s skin was changing rapidly, it didn’t appear normal to the naked eye, it was horrific to see, and it is an image that I’ll never forget, deep down I knew it was not going to end well.
"[Baby O] received a blessing from the priest and was quickly christened, moments later, he was gone."
"I felt like I had been stabbed in the heart, no words could describe how I was feeling. I kept wishing it had happened to me and at that time would have gladly taken his place."

I'm reading all of them. As someone who has followed this trial from the start I feel it's the least I can do. Heartbreaking.
Same here @marynnu I’ve followed with interest since her initial arrest, and I am horrified at what has happened, and the details that have since come out that allowed it to continue despite concerns being raised.

These victim impact statements are absolutely heartbreaking, you can feel each parents pain, anguish and despair in their words.

Each one of those beautiful babies should have been lovingly cared for during those early days in the NNU, and should ultimately have gone home with their parents. This evil monster stopped those babies from going home, while others who did survive are still suffering the consequences of her pure EVIL to this day. I can’t even begin to understand each parents pain, anger & suffering.

This is so sad and the part about them being too fearful to have another baby due to not wanting to go back to hospital really hits hard.
It's awful.

To be honest, I'm just kind of skim reading the impact statements as I find them difficult to process.

I really wish they'd drag her from her cell, though.

Ms Rees says in her statement: "Stephen Brearey was measured throughout... I said that if there were issues, then I needed to know what they were.

"Despite that, he refused to give me any more information. He said that he had evidence, but he refused to show it to me."

Ms Rees says she still doesn't understand why Dr Brearey wouldn't provide her with more information.

It's awful.

I really wish they'd drag her from her cell, though.
As others have said, maybe it's better this way. What if she caused an awful commotion - it could detract from the dignity of the parents' statements.
